Chapter 87 - The Courtesan’s Invitation

Hearing Xia Feng's question, the bald man snorted and raised one hand, spreading his fingers.

"Fifty."

Xia Feng instinctively asked,

"Five hundred million?"

Bald Man: "…"

He stared blankly at Xia Feng.

In his understanding, the word hundred million basically didn't exist.

Xia Feng quickly laughed awkwardly.

"No worries, no worries, just joking. Go ahead—how much?"

The bald man's eyelid twitched.

"Fifty!"

He puffed out his chest proudly.

"At this price, you won't find a fairer deal anywhere in all of Yoshiwara! I'm only offering this because the girl is high quality!"

Hearing that, Xia Feng turned to Uzui Tengen.

"Fifty… what kind of value is that?"

Even though Xia Feng had been in this world for quite a while, he still had almost no concept of the currency.

His food, clothing, and daily necessities at the Butterfly Estate were all taken care of.

When he went on missions, places like the Wisteria House would host him.

In a sense, he had basically been living like someone who never touched household chores.

So in Xia Feng's mind, he still subconsciously used modern Japanese yen as a reference.

Fifty yen… what could that buy?

Half a bottle of soda?

Uzui replied,

"Fifty… if you're frugal, that's enough for an ordinary family to live on for more than a year."

Xia Feng was instantly shocked.

Was this really the price level of yen?!

This was even stronger than the US dollar!

Kanao nodded from the side.

"Fifty is about the yearly salary of a worker."

Xia Feng clicked his tongue.

"As expected of little Kanao. You're really valuable."

Kanao smiled sweetly at Xia Feng, as if the person he was calculating the price for selling wasn't her at all.

Seeing her adorable expression, Xia Feng immediately felt healed.

He smiled and rubbed Kanao's head.

The bald man was getting impatient.

"Hey! Are you selling her or not? Let me warn you—today you'll sell whether you want to or not! In Yoshiwara, no one dares offend me, Tamura! If you don't sell her to me, no one else will dare buy!"

Xia Feng turned his head back and laughed.

"Not selling, not selling. I was just asking the price. Sorry for the trouble."

With that, he started walking away with Kanao and Uzui.

The bald man's face instantly darkened.

He reached out to grab Xia Feng's shoulder.

But before his hand even got halfway—

It was seized by a much stronger hand gripping his wrist.

When he turned his head, he saw Uzui Tengen's cold face.

Uzui stared at him darkly.

"He already said we're not selling. Looking for trouble?"

The bald man's face twisted with anger.

He glanced at Uzui's muscular body, then at the two massive cleavers on Uzui's back.

After hesitating for a few seconds, he clicked his tongue and tried to pull his wrist free.

But Uzui's hand didn't move an inch.

The bald man suddenly looked embarrassed.

"Fine, my bad luck. Let go—I'm leaving!"

he said through gritted teeth.

Uzui looked toward Xia Feng.

Xia Feng smiled and nodded.

Uzui snorted and released the man's wrist.

The bald man cursed quietly as he hurried away.

Uzui said to Xia Feng,

"People like that are everywhere in Yoshiwara. Like cockroaches. No one would care even if you beat them up."

Xia Feng blinked.

"I thought you were going to cut him down."

Uzui laughed helplessly.

"That would be illegal."

"The Demon Slayer Corps isn't an official organization. If we break the law, it'll cause big trouble."

Xia Feng nodded.

The Demon Slayer Corps often gave the impression of standing above normal society.

So he had subconsciously assumed they didn't care much about laws.

Turns out they were all law-abiding citizens after all.

As night fell, the surrounding streets became even more lively.

No matter the era—

This kind of business always became more active at night.

Under the guidance of Uzui, the experienced "driver," Xia Feng began visiting various "service establishments."

After visiting two places in a row, Xia Feng's initial excitement slowly faded.

Of course, it wasn't because his body had been drained.

With Kanao beside him, Xia Feng didn't dare do anything improper anyway.

The reason he lost interest was simple.

The girls here were just too ordinary.

If this were before he transmigrated, he might have considered spending some money here.

But now…

With adorable girls like Shinobu and Kanao around him—

Looking at the courtesans here just felt underwhelming.

Just as Xia Feng was thinking this, he suddenly felt like someone in the distance was watching him.

He turned toward the direction indicated by his Spider Sense.

The street was crowded with people.

Nothing seemed unusual.

He withdrew his gaze and continued wandering.

Not long after, he sensed someone approaching him.

He turned to the side.

A short man wearing a dark striped kimono stood there, smiling obsequiously.

"Sir… sir… please wait a moment."

Xia Feng stopped and looked him over.

The spider sense didn't signal any hostility, so he remained calm.

"What is it?"

Uzui and Kanao also stopped and looked toward the man.

Under the gaze of the three of them, the short man rubbed his hands together and said with a smile,

"Sir… our Oiran wishes to invite you upstairs for a conversation."

All three of them froze.

Xia Feng instinctively asked,

"Which house's Oiran?"

Uzui Tengen was completely dumbfounded.

"An Oiran invited Mr. Xia Feng?! Damn it, why?! I'm clearly more handsome—and my muscles are bigger!"

Xia Feng chuckled.

"That's called inner charm. Obviously she's interested in my inner qualities."

Uzui wished he had a handkerchief so he could bite it and cry.

The short man bowed slightly.

"Sir, our Oiran belongs to Kyogoku House."

"The highest-ranking courtesan in all of Yoshiwara—Oiran Warabihime."

Xia Feng blinked.

Kyogoku House…

Sounds like Kyogoku Makoto.

Hey, have you watched the worst Conan movie I ever acted in—

Cough.

He thought for a moment and asked,

"Can I bring someone with me?"

The short man bowed again.

"My apologies. According to Yoshiwara's rules… anyone meeting the Oiran must come alone."

Beside him, Uzui nodded enviously.

"That's right. Just meeting an Oiran is extremely difficult. Ordinary people could spend their entire fortune and still only get a glimpse through a curtain… Damn, I'm so jealous!"

Meanwhile, Kanao stood quietly beside them.

Her expression…

was complicated.
