Chapter 91 - An Indispensable Part

Xia Feng looked at Daki.

"Thanks."

"If reincarnation exists in this world… I hope you'll meet your brother again in the next life."

"When that happens, live as ordinary people and have a happy life together."

With that, he swung his blade.

The strike ended Daki's life painlessly.

Watching the two bodies on the ground turn into drifting ash, Kanao blinked.

Then she looked at Xia Feng.

Uzui Tengen didn't react much to the demons' deaths.

In his eyes, demons deserved nothing less than a miserable end.

The fact that Xia Feng killed them swiftly was already an act of mercy.

He looked at Xia Feng gratefully.

"Originally, we agreed that I'd handle the fight while you helped rescue people."

"But instead I ended up lying back and collecting the credit. I'm honestly ashamed."

Xia Feng smiled.

"In the end, the result is the same. The process doesn't matter."

Uzui scratched his head.

"Once the mission is over, I'll treat you to drinks. As much as you want!"

With that, he wasted no time.

Carrying his two massive blades, he jumped out of the building.

Using Sound Breathing, he struck the ground and listened to the echoes to determine where large hollow spaces existed underground.

It didn't take long before he found where Daki had hidden the captives.

Kanao sent her crow to summon the Kakushi unit to handle the aftermath.

Meanwhile—

Xia Feng sat on the roof of Kyogoku House, looking down at the busy scene below.

Although the night was completely dark, the surrounding lanterns lit everything clearly.

The cool night wind brushed past him.

It felt refreshing.

Xia Feng narrowed his eyes and slowly looked up at the sky.

At that moment, someone quietly walked over and sat beside him.

It was Kanao.

Xia Feng tilted his head and smiled.

"What's wrong? Miss me already?"

Kanao smiled back.

"Brother Xia Feng… you don't seem to be in a very good mood."

"If something is bothering you… can you tell me about it?"

Xia Feng paused for a moment.

Then he laughed.

"What do I have to feel bad about?"

"I just killed another Upper Rank. Everyone should be thanking me."

Kanao gently shook her head.

"Brother Xia Feng… when you face demons, there's never hatred in your eyes."

"Every member of the Demon Slayer Corps—especially the Hashira—holds deep hatred toward demons."

"That hatred helps them endure pain others cannot and reach heights others never can."

"Even someone as kind as Sister Shinobu still carries deep hatred when facing demons."

"But you're different."

"You don't think humans are automatically good just because they're human."

"And you don't think demons are automatically evil just because they're demons."

Hearing this, Xia Feng didn't know what to say for a moment.

Then he smiled.

"As expected of Kanao. Your observation skills are incredible."

She was completely right.

Before transmigrating, Xia Feng had simply been an ordinary person living peacefully in a lawful society.

After coming to this world, he had never lost anyone important because of demons.

Because of that, in Xia Feng's view—

Humans and demons were, in some ways, very similar beings.

He could judge them using the same standards.

To him, this was perfectly natural.

But to most Demon Slayer Corps members, such thinking would probably seem heretical.

Xia Feng shrugged.

"I know my way of thinking doesn't quite match the Demon Slayer Corps."

"But that's just how I am."

"I know Gyutaro and Daki deserved to die."

"But seeing a pair of siblings like that perish still makes me feel sympathy."

"Maybe that's a weakness."

"But it's also an indispensable part of who I am as a human."

Kanao quietly looked at him and smiled.

"Mm. I know."

"Because I like this gentle side of you the most, Brother Xia Feng."

She lifted her face and gave him a bright smile.

Seeing her like that, Xia Feng froze for a moment.

Then he laughed and gently rubbed her head.

In the next moment—

Under Kanao's surprised gaze, he leaned forward and lightly kissed her on the forehead.

Her face instantly turned bright red.

She let out a small gasp and touched her forehead.

Her eyes sparkled with happiness.

But soon—

A hint of disappointment appeared.

Only… the forehead?

She thought it quietly, not daring to say it aloud.

Seeing her conflicted expression, Xia Feng laughed.

He stood up, lifted Kanao in a princess carry, and jumped down from the roof.

Uzui Tengen was excitedly talking with his wives when two figures suddenly dropped beside him, startling him.

When he realized it was Xia Feng—and saw Kanao in his arms—

He grinned mischievously.

"Impressive… Special Advisor."

"One's a Hashira, the other's a Hashira's successor. Your strategy is flawless. I, Uzui Tengen, fully submit!"

Xia Feng looked at him speechlessly.

"White hair, I think you might just have too few missions."

"When we get back to headquarters, I'll assign you some more."

"Not too many. Just enough to keep you traveling nonstop for the next month."

"If you fail them, it's not a big deal."

"We'll just publicly announce to the entire Corps that you're incompetent."

"After all… I'm not a devil."

Uzui froze completely.

Ignoring his wives, he immediately ran over and began begging Xia Feng to take it back.

That night—

Both the Demon Slayer Corps and the demon side were plunged into shock.

Special Advisor Xia Feng… had slain another Upper Rank.

When Kagaya Ubuyashiki heard the crow's report, his breathing became uneven.

He nearly suffered another attack.

Supported by Amane Ubuyashiki, he looked up at the sky excitedly.

"As expected of Mr. Xia Feng…"

"Amazing… truly amazing."

"I only regret that I lack the strength to witness Mr. Xia Feng slaying an Upper Rank with my own eyes."

"If it were possible… I would gladly give him my position."
