The warmth and soft cushion June rested on seemed to give her comfort as she tossed and turned. She had missed this feeling and couldn't help but bury her face deeper into her cushion snuggling closer, "Thank God, it was just dream," she muttered.
At last, her nightmare was finally over, and she was back to her bed and her normal life worth finally appreciating.
"What's a dream?" The cushion responded.
June's brow furrowed in confusion.
At first she wanted to ignore it, but she could feel the vibration from the cushion as it spoke to her. Cushions couldn't speak.
Last she checked the only thing the cave she fell asleep in had, was a rock hard floor, not particularly comfy compared to the warmth she was provided, so now she wondered where it came from.
Immediately she sat up, her eyes wide awake from the lovely nap she had. "What's going on?" She asked.
The face of a wolf appeared from over her shoulder, as it whispered into her ear, "what's a dream?"
"AHHHH!"
June jumped up startled. She certainly was not at the fire place but rather cozying up to the wolf. "I didn't sleep next to you last night, I slept by the fireplace," she said.
"Yeah–" the wolf answered with a sarcastic hesitation, "right until you crawled up to me in your sleep thanks to the cold, you know, it would have been easier if you had just transformed though, I know beast rabbits keep warm with their fur."
She couldn't deny that claim, how could she, however the fact remained that she had not transformed since she came to the beast world and didn't know how to even if she would want to.
"You-"
"Not you," the wolf cut her off, "Kai."
"Kai," June repeated. She had to admit, his name did sorta suit his personality but unlike his name, June wasn't really ringing the Beast world bell, it screamed foreigner.
"And you must be Layla, the rabbit female Ronan told me about that tried to seduce him," Kai said.
At first June had wanted to deny it, being called a whore was not really her type of cake to have, but then again it seemed as though her body remembered that name, and she couldn't help but agree. Still, being called a whore was particularly harsh, better than a rapist probably.
"I'm sure that's not what happened, it must have been a misunderstanding." She laughed, her face flushed with embarrassment.
"Nope, the whole pack saw you in his cave, you were drunk and you tried to make him drunk too and then seduce him." He answered, a claim she could not deny since it had eye witness, June was forced into silence. Layla was almost a rapist it seemed, however something deep within her screamed at that story, there seemed to be more to it.
Kai got up in a downward dog pose as he stretched with a loud yawn and then reverted back to his human form. He stood completely naked before June when his manhood dangled like a stone tied to a rope.
The experience was not at all the best for June who turned away quickly. Her ears flushed red, the image from the wiggling elephant trunk was definitely difficult to get out of her head. She wasn't sure she'd ever seen something so big amongst the men she's dated. "Wow," she whispered completely astonished.
Kai's ears stood, a mischievous grim plastered on his face, "am I to take that as a good response female?"
"Excuse you!"
"Your response, you're obviously bewildered that I am bigger than most males, are you not?"
She couldn't deny that part even if she wanted to, her face gave it away and his hearing was dangerously sharp for a husky. "I wasn't talking to you," she replied sharply, "it's just that I couldn't believe you would do something like that infront of a person you've never met."
"But we have met female yester-"
"Don't, call me female," June warned as she held her hand up to silence him. Obediently, Kai kept quiet, the look on his face dropped with disappointment, a face she sadly couldn't ignore. She knew he wasn't wrong but he wasn't right either, arguing with a dog who clearly couldn't see reason was like explaining how reproduction works to a child. Tired she sighed, "didn't you say my name was Layla, call me by my name instead."
His eyes suddenly lit up for a brief moment, but then it was followed by concern, he asked carefully in a low voiced, "you want me to call you by your name?"
"Yes."
The look of excitement returned to his face, she couldn't understand why. It was just a name so there clearly wasn't any importance attached to it as she had grown tired of hearing the word Female used to refer to her.
"Does that mean you would be my mate?"

Confusion overshadowed her. June quickly stepped back, "Mate? You mean like your wife or something? Of course not." None of this seemed to make sense, when did she request to be his mate and why would he even think she would want to be his mate just because she allowed him to call her by her name..

Kai frowned, "you're the one who asked me to call you by your name, you gave me permission right?"
"Yeah, so what?"
"Doesn't that mean you want to be my female, no one is careless enough to agree to a male call her calling her by her beast name, you gave me that permission."
The cat had got her tongue, suddenly like a flood she had remembered something Bigo had warned her about yesterday that she probably half listened on.
Beast name, it was something sacred that females were assigned as do males, but unlike males, a female's name was branded as sacred. A name only a partner was allowed to call, it gave the female leverage over the males so a female could have as many mates as possible, sure it could be called out in public but the moment a female allows a male to say out her name, a mate bond would immediately appear of her and her partner. It was a slip up she had come to regret thanks to her ignorance.
"That was clearly a mistake, I wasn't thinking well. Please, don't do it, don't say out my name."
Kai couldn't care less, "that doesn't matter anymore, we're now destined to be a pair."
Her eyes scanned quickly for a way out when she noticed a rock lying next to her. She reached for it and summoned her strength, with one quick swing sent Kai into his dreams.
"Bigo, Bigo please help me," she called out to the toad who came out of hiding from behind the plates. "I don't want to be his mate, isn't there a way out of this?"
"There is, but you might not like it," it answered. "You would have to pay the Heavenly retribution in order to cancel the request."
"Whatever it is, just do it before he wakes up," she said hurriedly. .
Bigo looked at the man who laid on the floor and rolled his eyes, "you don't even ask what it is, you still have a long way to go," he murmured. He stood afar from June and only when he was far away did her fear grow. She knew something was wrong.
"Hey, what is this-"

June's vision darkened, at first it felt like a light ting but then she could feel her muscles tighten, like electricity passing through her every muscle, her heart rate increased and he could hardly move a finger. By the time the retribution which didn't last three seconds was over, June fell to the floor with a feeling of a near death experience.
One thing was certain as her consciousness faded, she was definitely not going to make the same mistake twice.
