Seeing John shot made Jean distracted, but as an experienced police officer she kept her eyes on the door as Carter could shoot at any time. She moved to John's side.
"Are you able to move?" Jean asked while keeping her eyes on the door.
"Yes, only my right hand was injured."
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
Suddenly, Carter started shooting. Jean and John stayed behind a garbage bin.
"Backup will arrive soon since I already informed them Carter is the Sin-Eater. He cannot escape anywhere," John said, bleeding from his hand.
But there was silence as Carter didn't shoot again.
"I will check." Jean gave John the evidence she had taken as she slowly went to the door.
Suddenly the window above the first floor broke as Carter shot towards Jean from above. Caught off guard, Jean was shot in the chest and took another bullet in the shoulder.
"Damn." Seeing this, John shot towards Carter, but the obstacles on the balcony made it very hard to hit him.
As bad luck would have it, John's bullets were empty.
Jean was bleeding on the ground heavily and couldn't even raise her gun.
Carter jumped from the balcony and landed on the ground easily using a nearby pole, then went after John to finish him.
Just as Carter reached John who was hiding behind the garbage bin, he was suddenly hit by paint that was thrown near the garbage. Carter didn't expect this attack and his vision went blind. He wiped at his eyes but it didn't help much.
"you bastard "
John, even with his injury, attacked Carter and kicked the gun out of his hand. Carter, even though he lost his vision, defended himself using his senses, blocking John's hits by sound and feel alone. Soon John lost the fight as Carter, even half blind, was just too experienced. Carter grabbed his gun and shot him.
Just as John thought he was gone, he suddenly felt a blur and found himself a few meters away from his original place.
"It seems I just came in time." Hearing a voice near him, he looked to his side. It was Jack in his XLR8 form who had saved him.
"It's Hero Blur!" Seeing the vigilante who was very famous in New York had saved him, John felt relieved.
Suddenly Jack left John and in a second punched Carter, who had just realized John was missing.
"Are you the Sin-Eater? You don't seem anything special."
Seeing the vigilante Blur, Carter knew he was no match for him and tried to run, but in front of XLR8, where could he escape? With just a few more punches and a tail attack, Carter was unconscious
Even though Carter seemed very powerful to Jean and John with his sharp shooting and reflexes, in front of XLR8 he couldn't even stand a second. They were not even from the same league.
The reason Jack was able to come here was entirely due to Red Queen's help. At the time John reported that he had found the Sin-Eater's identity and needed backup through the emergency line, Red Queen, who had been monitoring New York, picked up the report and immediately informed Jack.
At that time, Jack was at home playing video games with his future daughter and Iron Man's daughter. Hearing that Sin-Eater had been found and that people were in danger, he immediately told Emma and Morgan to stay at home.
Then he transformed into XLR8 and rushed to the scene.
With XLR8's speed, he was able to arrive in time.
"Sir, help Jean. She's injured and needs medical attention soon."
Hearing this, Jack rushed to Jean's side where she was bleeding.
He didn't think he would see Jean in this situation. If he hadn't come now, she would have died. But she was in very dangerous condition. With his knowledge he was sure she would die before reaching the hospital.
Thinking she could die made Jack's anger rise to its peak at the Sin-Eater who had caused this.
"Sir, save her please." Seeing Jean bleeding and her face going pale, John begged Jack to save her.
Just as Jack was thinking fast whether there was any way to save her, he was interrupted.
"Dad, you were still very fast." With that, a female version of XLR8 arrived near them.
"You — didn't I say to stay at home?" Seeing Jack getting angry, she quickly diverted his attention.
"We will talk about that later. Right now we need to save this sister soon." With that she used her space bag to take out something that looked like a doctor's toy.
"What's that?"
"This can save her. You guys leave — since she was injured in the chest, we need to remove her clothes to treat her. Go away, shoo shoo."
Jack was sure that in serious things Emma wouldn't joke, so he took John, who was staring blankly at Emma, to the side where the Sin-Eater lay unconscious from Jack's beating.
"Don't worry, Jean will be saved," Jack said, calming down John who was worried about Jean.
Looking at the Sin-Eater, Jack felt that killing this guy who had almost killed George and Jean and had even killed many innocents wouldn't be wrong. But since Emma was here, Jack didn't want his daughter to see any blood, so the man was lucky to escape with his life.
Still, killing could be avoided while making sure he would spend his lifetime in bed.
So with his medical knowledge, Jack spent a few minutes breaking what needed to be broken. Even while unconscious, Carter occasionally let out painful groans.
Seeing this, John didn't say anything — he had beaten the hell out of Carter too.
"Dad, she's saved." Jack looked at Jean, surprised. She seemed to have no injury, not even a scar.
"Uncle, let me heal you too." Seeing John's injury, Emma healed him. This time Jack could see the doctor toy was like a real doctor that helped fast. It had some advanced items like a nanobot healing spray to heal faster.
After as she healed him jean slowly opened her eyes and see john looking at her with tears
"What happened? Wasn't I shot?" Jean, fully healed, woke up slowly with john help gotop
Jack received a system notification.
[ Saved an important character from death and broke predestiny ]
[+200 Hero Points received]
[Total Hero Points: 345]
[Next hero unlocked at 1,600 points]
This is... an important character? Who does the system mean? Jean DeWolff?
Is she also an important character? I don't seem to know her full story. According to the system she would have died, and now I saved her. So the Sin-Eater would have killed her, but due to my intervention she was saved, and I was given Hero Points.
That was unexpected, but it's good. He was able to save this woman from death.
But after unlocking Big Chill, just like the previous aliens, the system seemed to require double the Hero Points each time. The requirement had increased from 800 to 1,600.
At this rate, when would he unlock the next alien?
Still, if saving important people like Jean gave this many Hero Points, maybe he could unlock it sooner.
Hopefully.
Just as Jack was thinking this, John finished explaining everything that had happened to Jean.
"Thank you. Thank you very much for your help."
Hearing from John that they had saved her life, Jean thanked them again and again.
"No problem. Saving people is what Plumbers do," Emma said proudly.
Just as she said that, they started hearing police sirens approaching from nearby.
"Well then, you guys can handle things from here. Make sure he pays for what he did."
Saying this, both Jack and Emma left the scene before the police arrived at the alley.
"They were really strong," John said while looking at Carter, who was in very bad condition.
"Carter almost killed us, but Hero Blur took him down in seconds." John looked in the direction where Jack and Emma had disappeared.
"And did you hear her call him dad? I didn't even know Hero Blur had a daughter."
John paused for a moment, remembering what he had just seen.
"But now that I think about it, they both looked exactly the same. The same blue body, the same speed, even the same tail."
He shook his head.
"Are they even human? Or are they some kind of superpowered species? Maybe that's why nobody has ever found out who Hero Blur really is."
Even now, John couldn't believe what he had seen.
"Whatever. They saved our lives, so they're our saviors," Jean said as police officers entered the alley.
She walked toward the officers to explain what had happened.
"Yeah, they're heroes who saved us. Even if they aren't human, so what?" John said as he looked one last time in the direction the two mysterious heroes had disappeared.
Author's Note
Some readers may not know who Jean DeWolff is.
In the original Spider-Man comics, Jean DeWolff was a police captain and one of Spider-Man's strongest supporters inside the police department. Unlike many officers who distrusted vigilantes, Jean believed Spider-Man genuinely wanted to help people.
In the famous storyline "The Death of Jean DeWolff", she was murdered by the serial killer Sin-Eater. Her death had a major impact on Spider-Man and became one of the most important tragedies in his early career.
The Sin-Eater was eventually revealed to be police officer Stan Carter.
There were also hints in the comics that Jean may have had romantic feelings for Spider-Man, although the relationship was never fully explored.
In this story, Jack's actions have changed that fate and saved Jean from her original death.
