Chapter 6 - The Floating Temple

The wind howled fiercely as Arin, Mira, and the traveler stepped deeper into the ancient temple.

The moment they crossed the entrance, the atmosphere changed completely.

Outside, the air had been wild and alive with movement—but inside…

It was silent.

Too silent.

Each step echoed against the massive stone walls, the sound traveling far into the darkness ahead. The glowing green symbols carved into the walls flickered faintly, as if reacting to Arin's presence.

Arin slowed his pace.

"…Do you feel that?" he whispered.

Mira hugged her arms slightly. "Yeah… it's like something is watching us."

The traveler walked ahead calmly, his staff tapping lightly against the stone floor.

"This is no ordinary place," he said. "The temple was built to protect the Master Emerald. Every part of it is alive with its power."

Arin looked around, his eyes drawn to the glowing symbols.

"They're reacting to me…"

"Of course they are," the traveler replied. "You are the Guardian."

Arin swallowed.

The word still felt heavy.

Guardian.

Before he could say anything else—

A whisper echoed through the chamber.

"Guardian…"

Arin froze instantly.

That voice again.

Soft.

Ancient.

Calling to him.

"I hear it," he said quietly.

Mira turned to him. "Hear what?"

"The voice… it's the same one from before."

The traveler narrowed his eyes slightly. "The Master Emerald is reaching out to you."

Arin nodded slowly.

"…What does it want?"

The answer came immediately.

"You are late…"

Suddenly—

CRACK!

The ground beneath them split open with a violent tremor.

"Whoa!" Mira stumbled back. "Okay, I really don't like this place!"

Dust filled the air as the floor shifted, ancient cracks spreading like veins across the stone.

From the darkness ahead—

A low, heavy sound echoed.

THUD.

THUD.

THUD.

Arin's heart began to race.

"…Something's coming."

A massive shape slowly emerged from the shadows.

At first, it looked like part of the wall.

But then—

It moved.

A towering creature stepped into the faint green light.

Its body was made of stone, covered in glowing cracks that pulsed with the same energy as the Master Emerald. Its eyes burned bright, like two emerald flames staring directly at Arin.

Mira took a step back. "That thing is HUGE…"

The traveler's voice was calm, but serious.

"A temple guardian."

The creature raised its head slowly.

Then it spoke, its voice deep and powerful, shaking the entire chamber.

"NO ONE… APPROACHES THE EMERALD…"

The force of its voice alone sent a wave of pressure through the air.

Arin stepped forward, his fists tightening.

"No… it's not just protecting the emerald."

He could feel it.

The energy inside him reacted strongly.

"It's testing me."

The guardian suddenly moved.

Faster than something that size should be.

BOOM!

Its massive fist slammed into the ground where Arin had been standing.

Stone shattered.

The impact sent shockwaves through the chamber.

Arin barely dodged in time, rolling to the side.

"Too close…" he muttered.

Mira grabbed a broken spear from the ground. "Arin! We can't let that thing hit you again!"

The guardian turned toward him again.

Its glowing eyes locked onto him.

Then it charged.

Arin took a deep breath.

The warmth inside his chest flared.

Not wild this time.

Controlled.

"I can do this…"

Green energy began to gather around his hands, brighter than before.

The guardian swung again—

But this time—

Arin moved forward.

He raised his arm and released a burst of energy.

BOOM!

The attack collided with the guardian, forcing it to step back slightly.

Mira's eyes widened. "You pushed it back!"

Arin stared at his hands.

"…I'm getting stronger."

The traveler watched carefully from behind.

"Yes… but don't lose focus," he warned. "That guardian is not using its full power yet."

As if responding to those words—

The guardian's body began to glow brighter.

The cracks across its stone form spread wider, pulsing violently.

A low rumble filled the chamber.

Mira stepped back again. "That doesn't look good…"

Arin felt it too.

The energy had changed.

It wasn't stable anymore.

It was… breaking.

Then—

The voice returned.

But this time—

It sounded distorted.

Twisted.

"…STOP HIM…"

Arin froze.

"That voice… it changed…"

The guardian let out a deafening roar.

Its power surged wildly.

The ground beneath them began to collapse, pieces of stone falling into darkness below.

The traveler's expression darkened.

"This is bad…"

Arin looked toward the deeper part of the temple.

Toward where the Master Emerald should be.

He could feel it clearly now.

The pulse.

The cracks.

Something inside it… was wrong.

"…The emerald isn't just testing me," he said.

Mira looked at him. "Then what is it doing?!"

Arin clenched his fists.

"It's losing control."

The guardian charged again—faster, stronger, more violent than before.

Arin stepped forward to meet it.

"I won't let it break!"

The energy inside him surged outward.

Bright.

Powerful.

Alive.

He raised both hands.

"GUARDIAN BURST!"

A massive wave of green energy exploded forward, clashing directly with the guardian.

BOOM!!!

The impact shook the entire temple.

For a moment—

Everything went still.

Dust filled the air.

Cracks spread across the walls.

The guardian stood frozen…

Then—

It took a step back.

For the first time.

Mira gasped. "You're actually fighting it!"

Arin breathed heavily, but his eyes burned with determination.

"I'm not just fighting it…"

He looked past the guardian.

Toward the heart of the temple.

"…I'm going to save the emerald."

But high above the temple—

Hidden within the clouds—

A pair of red eyes opened.

Watching.

Waiting.

"…Good," a cold voice whispered.

"Grow stronger, Guardian…"

Back inside the temple—

The Master Emerald pulsed violently.

CRACK.

A deeper fracture spread across its glowing surface.

And from within it…

A dark energy began to leak out.
