Yun opened his eyes slowly. The pulse was still there, but something had changed. It was no longer wild or chaotic. It moved with a steady rhythm now, controlled in a way that felt unnatural, not because it was calm, but because it was watching. Yun sat still for a moment, his breathing even and his mind focused. The sensation in his chest was no longer just energy. It had weight, presence, awareness. His grandfather stood nearby, silent as always, observing without interfering.
"You felt it," the old man said.
Yun didn't answer immediately. His hand rose slowly to his chest. "…It's different."
"It always was," the old man replied. "You just couldn't perceive it."
Yun frowned slightly. "That doesn't help."
"It's not supposed to."
Silence followed before the old man spoke again. "There is a place you need to go." Yun looked up. "A cave," the old man continued, "deep in the forest, hidden behind a waterfall." Yun's eyes narrowed. "What's in it?" The old man turned away slightly. "Not what," he said quietly. "Who." That answer changed everything. Yun stood. "…Then I'm going." "I know." "And you're not going to explain anything?" "No." Yun exhaled slowly. "…Of course." The old man added, almost casually, "I'll be nearby." Yun paused. "Nearby?" "To make sure you don't die." There was no humor in his voice. Yun nodded once. That was enough.
The forest felt different that day. Heavier. The deeper Yun walked, the more the silence pressed against him. There were no birds, no wind, even the leaves barely moved. Only the sound of water reached him, distant at first, then closer, louder, until it became impossible to ignore. Yun stepped through the trees and stopped. In front of him stood the waterfall, massive and relentless. The force of it shook the ground beneath his feet. Mist filled the air, cold and sharp against his skin. Behind it was darkness. The cave. Yun stared at it for a few seconds, then stepped forward. The water crashed over him as he passed through. For a brief moment, everything disappeared, sound, light, even the sense of space itself, and then there was silence.
Inside the cave, the world changed. The air was thick, heavy, almost alive. Yun took a step forward. The ground beneath him was uneven and damp, echoing faintly with each movement. Every sound carried, every motion felt amplified. Then the pulse in his chest reacted, stronger, sharper, as if it recognized something. Yun stopped, his eyes narrowing. "…I'm not alone."
"You're late."
The voice came from the darkness, calm, controlled, unfamiliar. Yun's body tensed instantly. "Show yourself." Footsteps echoed, slow and measured. Then a figure emerged, tall, broad-shouldered, clad in armor that reflected the faint light of the cave. Brown hair, calm eyes, but the pressure that came with him was overwhelming. Yun felt it immediately. This wasn't chaotic power. This was control. Perfectly restrained. "…Who are you?" Yun asked.
The man studied him, then smiled slightly. "…Disappointing." Yun didn't react outwardly, but his muscles tightened. "That's not an answer." The man chuckled softly. "No, it isn't." He took a step closer, and the pressure increased. "You came here because you're losing control." Yun's eyes sharpened. "I'm not losing control." The man tilted his head slightly. "Then why are you here?" Silence followed. Yun didn't answer, because he didn't have one. The man nodded slightly. "Exactly."
He raised his hand, and for a moment, the entire cave felt like it stopped breathing. Yun's chest tightened instantly. "…What is that…?" "This?" the man said calmly. "Control." Yun's expression darkened. "…No." The man smiled. "You're right." He lowered his hand. "This isn't control." A brief pause. "This is alignment." Yun frowned. "Explain."
The man looked at him carefully. "You're trying to dominate your power." "…And?" "That's why it's rejecting you." Yun's pulse reacted violently. The man continued, "Power like yours doesn't submit." He stepped forward. "It responds." Yun's breathing slowed. "…To what?" The man's eyes locked onto his. "To what you are." Silence filled the cave. Yun felt something shift inside him. "…And what am I?"
The man didn't answer directly. Instead, he asked, "What do you feel right now?" Yun hesitated, then answered. "…Pressure… awareness… like something is watching me." The man nodded. "Good." That word hit harder than expected. "Now tell me," the man continued, "are you controlling that feeling?" "…No." "Exactly." He stepped closer. "So stop trying to control it." Yun's eyes narrowed. "That's reckless." "Yes," the man replied instantly. "But necessary."
Silence stretched. Yun clenched his fists. "…If I stop, it could take over." The man's expression didn't change. "It already is." That made Yun freeze. The pulse in his chest intensified. "…What?" "You just haven't realized it yet." Yun's breathing slowed. For the first time, he didn't argue.
The man stepped back. "Sit." Yun didn't move. "That wasn't a suggestion." The pressure increased, and Yun sat slowly. "Close your eyes." "…Why should I trust you?" "You shouldn't," the man replied. "But you don't have a better option." Silence followed. Then Yun closed his eyes.
"Don't fight it. Don't control it. Just listen."
At first, nothing happened. Then a pulse, slow, deep, clear. Yun focused without forcing it, without resisting. The pulse grew stronger, but not violent, not unstable, just different. "…Good," the man said. Yun ignored him. Something else had his attention. The pulse was changing. It wasn't just energy anymore. It felt… alive. Then something like a whisper, not sound, not words, but close. Yun's eyes snapped open. "…Did you feel that?"
The man smiled. "Now you're starting to understand." Yun's breathing grew heavier. "That wasn't just power." "No." "…Then what is it?" The man turned away slightly. "That," he said quietly, "is what you really are."
Silence filled the cave, heavy and suffocating. Yun stood slowly. "…Who are you?" The man didn't turn back. "Someone you will have to surpass." A brief pause followed. "And if you fail…" The pressure in the cave shifted, colder, darker. "…you won't survive what's coming." Yun's eyes hardened. "…Then I won't fail." The man smiled faintly. "…Good." And then he vanished. No movement, no sound, just gone.
Silence returned, but it wasn't empty anymore. Yun stood alone, but he wasn't alone, not anymore. The pulse inside him felt different now, stronger, clearer, watching. Outside the cave, hidden among the trees, his grandfather watched silently. "…So he met him." There was no surprise in his voice, only quiet understanding.
Back inside, Yun closed his eyes again. This time, he didn't resist. He listened. And deep within him… something answered.
