"That bastard..." he muttered under his breath.
He scrolled to another number — Marvica.
This time, the call was answered after just one ring.
"Director Fury?" Marvica's voice was calm and clear, like a wisp of Warmth in the night wind.
Fury took a deep breath. "Ms. Marvica, S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters is under attack by HYDRA. The helicarriers are launching. I need your help."
There was a second of silence on the other end.
"Understood."
The call ended.
Fury put down his phone and looked out the window at the night sky, stained red by firelight.
He had to find a way to stall HYDRA for as long as possible before Marvica arrived.
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s defensive forces began targeting the ascending carriers, but the ground personnel's firearms posed little threat to the massive helicarriers.
The colossal hulls didn't even need to acknowledge the incoming bullets; rifle fire couldn't penetrate their steel plates.
Most of the Base's aerial forces were unable to take off; HYDRA wouldn't let them launch their aircraft.
Anyone who tried would immediately draw concentrated fire from HYDRA.
And the few fighters that did manage to get airborne couldn't pose much of a threat to the carriers either.
When the helicarriers' deck guns targeted them, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fighters could only desperately evade.
The situation was grim, making Fury's palms sweat.
Finally, after enduring a long five minutes...
A streak of light shot from the northern horizon, golden-red like a meteor, streaking across the night sky and racing toward the helicarriers.
Fury's tense nerves relaxed slightly, and the corner of his mouth lifted.
"She's here."
Marvica flew at the forefront.
She looked at the three massive helicarriers, her gaze calm.
Golden-red flames blazed around her, illuminating the night sky.
She didn't slow down; instead, she accelerated.
The golden-red light grew brighter, more intense, like a real Sun.
She transformed into a fiery meteor, shooting straight toward the hull of the central helicarrier.
The soldiers on the carrier saw the light, but they had no time to react.
BOOM—!!!
The golden-red light pierced through the carrier's hull, entering from one side and exiting from the other.
The carrier's armor was as fragile as paper before her flames, instantly melting, tearing, and being pierced.
The carrier shuddered violently, then began to tilt.
Flames gushed from the breach, thick smoke billowed, and alarms blared across the night sky.
Marvica flew out from the other side of the carrier, tracing a graceful arc in the air before turning toward the second carrier.
Same speed, same light, same piercing.
BOOM—!!!
The second carrier was also pierced.
Its hull began to fracture, flames devouring its internal structure. Soldiers screamed in terror, trying to parachute to safety.
Marvica turned toward the third carrier.
This time, she hovered directly in front of the carrier, looking at the massive vessel. The golden-red light gathered around her, growing brighter, hotter.
She raised her hand.
A golden beam shot from her palm, striking the carrier's bow.
The beam, like a searing blade, split the carrier clean down the middle.
The two halves of the hull tilted to either side, trailing thick smoke and flames as they slowly plummeted.
Marvica lowered her hand, hovering in the night sky, her golden-red hair flowing in the wind.
Three helicarriers, destroyed in an instant.
On the ground, Fury watched the three carriers turn into fireballs and fall, a slight smile touching his lips.
"Nicely done," he said softly.
Coulson's somewhat hesitant voice came through the earpiece.
"But Director... those were our ultimate weapons, built at immense cost. We only had four, and now..."
Hearing this, Fury remembered—these helicarriers were supposed to be his trump cards. HYDRA had ambushed them, and now more than half were gone.
The thought made Fury's heart bleed.
But there was no choice. The situation was critical. Marvica's approach was correct.
Otherwise, if those helicarriers locked onto their targets, the consequences would have been far worse.
Thor and Loki hadn't followed Marvica to deal with the helicarriers.
Their targets were on the ground.
Thor, carrying mjolnir, descended from the sky and slammed into the ground, creating a deep crater.
He stood up, looked at the HYDRA soldiers before him, and grinned.
"Who's first?"
The HYDRA soldiers stared at him, stunned.
Thor didn't give them time to think.
He raised mjolnir. Lightning descended from the sky, struck the hammerhead, and transformed into a brilliant blue beam that blasted toward the soldiers.
Several soldiers were struck, convulsing as they collapsed.
The others recoiled in terror and opened fire.
Bullets struck Thor as if hitting a steel plate, the projectiles deforming and falling to the ground.
Thor strode forward, swinging his hammer, sending soldiers flying one by one.
Then, a silver-white blur flashed past him.
Pietro.
He was so fast Thor's eyes couldn't keep up.
Thor only felt a gust of wind, then something heavy slammed into the back of his head.
Thor staggered a step and turned—no one.
Pietro appeared to his left, punching him in the ribs.
Thor grunted, staggering another step.
Pietro was too fast; Thor couldn't catch him.
"Is that all you've got?" Pietro's laughter came from all directions.
Thor grinned, raised mjolnir, and summoned lightning.
Lightning spread out from him in all directions, forming a blue electric net.
No matter how fast Pietro was, he couldn't outrun lightning.
Struck by the electric net, his body stiffened, and his speed slowed.
Thor seized the opportunity and swung his hammer at him.
Pietro sidestepped, but the hammer's Impact wave still sent him flying.
He tumbled through the air several times, then landed steadily on one knee. He looked up, blood at the corner of his mouth.
He wiped the blood away and smiled. "Not bad. This is getting interesting."
Thor looked at him, frowning slightly.
This young man was indeed fast, fast enough to give even him a headache.
But Thor could sense the other's physical strength was only... Pietro hadn't fully mastered his abilities. His speed was great, but his control wasn't precise enough; sometimes he overshot, sometimes he couldn't stop in time.
Moreover, his physical constitution wasn't much stronger than an ordinary human's. Against an Asgardian god like Thor, a single hit would mean serious injury.
"You have talent," Thor said. "But you still need practice."
Pietro's smile stiffened. "Practice? You think we're playing games with you?"
