The classroom smelled faintly of ink and chalk.
It was one of the quieter rooms in the academy—built with tall windows that overlooked the mountain valley below Kumogakure.
Morning light filtered through the clouds outside.
Students slowly filled the seats while Instructor Tetsuya wrote several unfamiliar symbols across the board.
Daigo leaned back in his chair.
"…I thought this was combat training."
Akari dropped into the seat beside him.
"Congratulations."
"You're in school."
Daigo sighed dramatically.
"I liked the punching part better."
Raizen sat near the window, quietly watching the instructor finish drawing.
The symbols looked like circular pathways connected by branching lines.
Chakra pathways.
The Guest Instructor
When the door opened again, a new figure entered.
A tall jonin wearing the flak jacket of Kumogakure.
Several students straightened instinctively.
Even Tetsuya stepped aside slightly.
"This is Instructor Hayate," he said.
"He will be teaching today's chakra theory lesson."
The jonin gave a small nod.
Unlike most Kumo shinobi, his presence felt calm rather than intimidating.
"Good morning," Hayate said.
"Today we discuss something many shinobi misunderstand."
He tapped the board.
"Chakra itself."
What Chakra Really Is
Hayate drew two circles on the board.
"Chakra is created by combining two forms of energy."
He pointed to the first circle.
"Physical energy."
"Produced by every cell in the body."
Then the second.
"Mental energy."
"Generated through thought, experience, and discipline."
He connected the two circles.
"When these energies combine properly, they produce chakra."
Several students scribbled notes.
Daigo blinked slowly.
"…So chakra is basically brain power plus muscles?"
Hayate chuckled.
"An oversimplification."
"But not entirely wrong."
Chakra Pathways
The jonin then pointed to the circular diagram Tetsuya had drawn earlier.
"This represents the chakra pathway system."
Thin lines extended through the body like branches of a tree.
"Your chakra flows through these pathways constantly."
"Training strengthens them."
"Injury damages them."
Raizen studied the diagram carefully.
Inside his mind Astra spoke.
"Comparison with internal sensory data suggests accurate representation."
Raizen ignored the comment and kept listening.
Nature Transformation
Hayate erased part of the board and drew five symbols.
Lightning
Wind
Water
Fire
Earth
"These are the five fundamental nature transformations."
Students leaned forward.
Many had heard of them before.
Few actually understood them.
"Each shinobi naturally resonates with certain elements more easily than others," Hayate explained.
"Your chakra has a natural tendency."
Akari raised her hand.
"How do you know which one is yours?"
"Experience."
He tapped the board again.
"And testing."
Why Some Shinobi Are Different
Hayate continued the lesson.
"Most shinobi develop one strong elemental affinity."
"Some develop two."
He paused.
"Very rarely… someone may show compatibility with several."
The room went quiet.
Students exchanged curious looks.
Raizen remained still.
But the idea lingered in his mind.
Tactical Lesson
The jonin wasn't finished.
"Elemental affinity is not just about power," he continued.
"It also influences tactics."
He pointed to the board again.
"Wind techniques excel at cutting and range."
"Lightning techniques focus on speed and penetration."
"Water adapts easily to terrain."
"Earth emphasizes defense."
"Fire dominates through destructive force."
He turned back toward the class.
"A shinobi who understands their element understands their battlefield."
That idea stuck with several students.
Especially Raizen.
After Class
The lesson ended quietly.
Students filed out into the training yard discussing the ideas excitedly.
Daigo stretched his arms.
"So basically I'm going to discover I have an awesome lightning element."
Akari rolled her eyes.
"You probably have rock."
"What does that mean?"
"You're hard headed."
Daigo gasped dramatically.
"Betrayal."
Raizen walked beside them quietly.
But his thoughts were still on the lesson.
Chakra pathways.
Elemental resonance.
Energy flow.
Inside his mind Astra spoke again.
"Your chakra signature shows unusual multi-element compatibility."
Raizen sighed internally.
"…We're not telling anyone that."
"Understood."
Nightfall
That evening the dormitory rooftop was quiet.
Only a few students had gathered.
Lantern light flickered against the stone tiles.
Daigo and Ren were already sparring near the center.
Akari practiced drawing arrows along the railing.
Raizen stood alone with his practice blade.
Watching.
Listening.
Somewhere below in the academy grounds, an instructor walked past.
A faint bell chimed in the night air.
Raizen glanced toward the sound.
Not yet.
But someday.
