Chapter 104 - Chapter 102 —The Ridge Break

The mountain tightened around them.

The wide starting path vanished within seconds—replaced by a narrow ridge carved into the cliffs behind Kumogakure.

Twenty runners— became a single line.

Loose gravel shifted beneath their feet.

Wind pushed sideways.

The drop below— was endless.

The Storm Run had truly begun.

The First Push

Kenji Sato exploded forward.

No hesitation.

No pacing.

Pure acceleration.

He ran like the race ended at the next turn.

Behind him—

Rei Kisaragi moved in complete contrast.

Light.

Balanced.

Silent.

No wasted energy.

Several strides back—

Raizen.

Not chasing.

Not yielding.

Maintaining control.

Astra's Timing

Inside his mind—

Astra tracked everything.

"Current pace sustainable."

Raizen adjusted his breathing.

In.

Out.

Step.

Step.

Three stages.

Burning out here meant losing later.

The Ridge Narrows

The path curved sharply around a jagged cliff.

Then— narrowed again.

Barely enough room for two people.

Some runners slowed.

Others didn't.

That was the difference.

From behind—

Daigo Mizuta's voice echoed:

"…WHY IS THIS EVEN A PATH?!"

A blur passed him.

Akari Mizuta.

Precise.

Measured.

Like she'd done this a hundred times before.

The Crack

Then— it happened.

CRRRACK.

The ridge shifted.

Not loudly.

Subtly.

Raizen felt it first.

Not through sight—

Through the air.

Heaven Pulse

Inside his mind—

Astra reacted instantly.

"Structural instability detected."

Raizen adjusted his step— just before the ground broke.

Stone collapsed beneath three runners.

One slipped— caught the edge.

Another slid down the slope— barely stopping.

A third— was gone from the race entirely.

Medical teams moved instantly.

The mountain had claimed its first victims.

A Small Mistake

Raizen moved past the break—

but for half a step—

he hesitated.

The timing felt off.

His foot landed slightly harder than intended.

Gravel slipped.

His balance tilted— just slightly.

He corrected instantly.

But— he noticed it.

Inside his mind—

Astra spoke.

"Micro-instability detected."

Raizen narrowed his eyes.

So it's not perfect yet.

Good.

The Leaders Separate

The ridge widened again.

Kenji Sato accelerated.

He wanted distance.

Rei Kisaragi stayed close behind.

Still silent.

Still controlled.

Neither looked back.

Raizen followed.

Akari closed in behind him.

The rest— were already falling away.

Styles Revealed

Each runner moved differently.

Kenji:

Power. Aggression. Risk.

Rei:

Efficiency. Balance. Silence.

Raizen:

Control. Rhythm. Adaptation.

Akari:

Precision. Positioning. Terrain reading.

The mountain exposed everything.

Astra's Modeling

Inside Raizen's mind—

Astra updated.

"Competitor movement profiles refined."

Kenji:

High output. Unsustainable long-term.

Rei:

Optimal endurance model.

Raizen:

Balanced efficiency.

"Probability shifts expected in later stages."

Raizen smirked faintly.

That's when it matters.

The Ridge Break

The next turn— was worse.

The path ended.

A gap split the ridge.

Three meters across.

Nothing below.

Just air.

No hesitation—

Kenji jumped.

Cleared it clean.

Rei followed— perfectly placed.

Raizen stepped forward.

Wind surged upward from the canyon.

Inside his mind—

Astra calculated.

"Distance: three meters."

Raizen jumped—

Mid-air— the wind shifted.

Slightly stronger than predicted.

His landing foot hit— a fraction off-center.

He adjusted immediately.

Recovered.

But again— he felt it.

Not perfect.

Akari landed just behind him.

Clean.

Flawless.

Several runners behind— hesitated.

And lost time.

End of Stage One

The ridge widened.

Then sloped downward.

Dark forest ahead.

Dense.

Unpredictable.

The next stage.

Raizen slowed slightly.

Astra reacted.

"Energy stable."

Raizen looked ahead.

"Now it changes."

Behind them— thunder rolled.

The mountain wasn't done.

It was just getting started.
