Chapter 142 - Chapter 140 — First Star

The arena grew noticeably quieter.

Not completely silent.

But different.

Even the wind seemed to slow as Raizen Tenrai stepped onto the platform.

Students leaned forward instinctively.

Eyes locked.

Breath held.

The First Rank of the Thunder Board—

Was about to fight.

Across the arena, his opponent stepped forward.

Kenta Morishige.

Lean.

Compact.

Built for close-range pressure.

Not a Seven Star.

But strong enough to stand above most of the academy.

Kenta rolled his shoulders once.

"…So you're the one everyone keeps talking about."

Raizen didn't respond.

He adjusted the senbon case along his left leg.

Calm.

Precise.

The signal flag dropped.

The match began.

Opening Movement

Kenta attacked instantly.

Fast.

Direct.

Explosive.

A front kick snapped toward Raizen's midsection—

Raizen shifted slightly.

Barely.

The kick missed by inches.

Kenta spun.

Elbow strike.

Raizen leaned back.

The air split where he had been.

The crowd reacted immediately.

"…He hasn't even moved his feet—"

"…What is that—"

Akari watched closely.

"Not yet."

Testing Phase

Kenta adjusted.

Feint high.

Step in.

Low sweep.

This time—

Raizen moved.

A light hop backward.

Silent.

Controlled.

His sandals touched the stone with almost no sound.

Inside his mind, Astra spoke:

"Opponent profile: aggressive striker."

"Pattern: pressure escalation."

Raizen responded mentally.

"…Predictable."

First Disruption

Kenta surged forward again.

Lightning flickered across his forearms.

Small sparks.

Basic reinforcement.

His next punch came faster.

Raizen stepped inside.

No hesitation.

His hand flicked.

A single senbon flashed forward.

It struck the ground beside Kenta's lead foot.

Kenta froze.

Not long.

Not obvious.

But enough.

Raizen moved.

Palm strike.

Clean.

Precise.

Kenta's balance broke.

A ripple passed through the crowd.

"…He baited him…"

"…That wasn't random…"

Daigo grinned.

"…Yeah."

Pressure vs Control

Kenta recovered quickly.

He rushed again.

Harder now.

Punch.

Punch.

Elbow.

Raizen blocked one.

Redirected another.

Slipped past the third.

Never fully engaging.

Never overcommitting.

Kenta pushed forward relentlessly.

But something had changed.

He wasn't controlling the fight anymore.

Akari's voice was quiet.

"…He's losing structure."

Daigo nodded.

"Yeah."

"…He's getting pulled in."

The Trap Closes

Kenta attacked again.

Heavier now.

Less precise.

Raizen moved.

Three senbon flashed.

Not at Kenta.

Around him.

One behind.

One to the left.

One just ahead.

Kenta's eyes flicked down.

Instinct.

That was enough.

Raizen stepped in.

Shoulder check.

Clean impact.

Kenta stumbled.

One step.

Two.

He tried to recover—

Too late.

The boundary line met his heel.

"Instructor decision — eliminated."

Silence

The arena froze.

No explosion.

No dramatic finish.

Just—

Control.

"…That's it?"

"…That was the number one…?"

"…He didn't even use a jutsu…"

Akari spoke softly.

"He never needed to."

Daigo smirked.

"…That's how he fights."

Instructor Perspective

High above the arena—

The instructors watched.

Ren folded his arms.

"…Efficient."

Another instructor nodded.

"He never gave the opponent a chance to stabilize."

Aran remained silent.

His eyes stayed on Raizen.

"…He dictated every exchange."

Ren exhaled slowly.

"…That's not academy-level thinking."

Aran answered calmly.

"…No."

Rival Reaction

Across the arena—

Rei Kurogane watched.

No surprise.

No frustration.

Understanding.

"…So that's your rhythm."

Raizen stepped down from the platform.

Their eyes met.

Rei cracked his neck slightly.

"…Good."

A small grin formed.

"Because next time—"

Lightning flickered faintly along his arm.

"I won't hesitate."

Raizen didn't respond.

But he didn't look away either.

Aftermath

As Raizen walked from the arena—

Astra spoke quietly.

"Opponent eliminated in 72 seconds."

"Energy usage: minimal."

Raizen answered calmly.

"…That wasn't the test."

Astra paused.

"…Agreed."

Because the Lightning Gauntlet had only just begun.

And now—

The instructors were watching him differently.

Not as a student.

But as something else.

Something forming.

Something dangerous.
