Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Nen After Death

Gorenou charged straight at Terence.

He knew he had to eliminate this long-range threat first—the lethality of the Nen Bullets was too high; if left unchecked, Colton's men would soon be slaughtered.

The two muscular Nen-beast gorillas, 'Black Sage' and 'White Sage,' charged together toward Gabri, who was massacring the Colton guards in the distance.

Terence had just pulled the trigger, and a Nen Bullet whistled out, but it weirdly changed direction in mid-air, shooting straight at Gorenou's chest.

Gorenou was prepared; he unleashed his Nen, forming 'Ken' on his body to block the attack, and immediately threw a punch at Terence.

On Gabri's side, the white gorilla's speed was surprisingly not inferior to his.

Every time the blade flashed, the gorilla would dodge by a hair's breadth, its thick arms counterattacking simultaneously, forcing Gabri to constantly change direction.

The guards, whose pressure had suddenly eased, took the opportunity to reorganize their defense, but their numbers had already been halved.

At the same time, Theodore moved as if entering an empty realm.

He hadn't used the front gate at all, but instead climbed over the wall on the west side of the estate.

Two guards spotted him and were just about to raise their guns when Theodore flicked his finger, instantly striking the guards' foreheads. He then quickly closed the distance and gave a forceful twist, and the guards fell to the ground in response.

He didn't stop, heading straight for the main building. Every guard he encountered along the way was dispatched by him without exception.

A relaxed smile remained on Theodore's face, as if he were strolling through his own backyard.

He walked up to the second floor and pushed open the door to the conference room.

Leo stood in the center of the room, looking at him calmly.

'Hmm? Only one person?' Theodore raised an eyebrow, looking around the empty room.

'Kid, where is that woman? Speak up. If I'm in a good mood, I might let you die a little easier.'

Leo did not answer. He was observing—the gray hair, the red tattoo, the posture with hands in his pockets, and the unmasked, playful Nen surrounding him.

'So there really is someone else.' Leo finally spoke, his voice steady.

'I just need to take care of you.'

Theodore froze for a moment, then burst into laughter, laughing until he doubled over.

'I like your ignorance!'

He pointed at Leo, his smile twisted.

'Let's have some fun!'

Before he finished speaking, a violent burst of Nen exploded from his body.

Two dice appeared out of thin air in his palm—one was a normal six-sided number die.

The other was engraved with 'Great Luck,''Small Luck,' 'Great Misfortune,' and'Small Misfortune.'

'This is my Nen Ability, 'Risk Gambler'.' Theodore showed off the dice, his tone full of arrogance.

'The number die has 1 to 6 points, and as for the risk die... it has one side of Great Luck, two sides of Small Luck, one side of Great Misfortune, and two sides of Small Misfortune.'

'The number die grants enhancements based on the points.' He licked his lips, his eyes flashing with a crazy light.

'As long as I throw it and get 'Luck,' I'll get an enhancement based on the number die's points.'

'If I get 'Misfortune'... heh heh, it will lower my stats based on the points.'

'The activation condition is to explain the rules to a witness.' Theodore stared at Leo.

'And you, you are my witness. Isn't this fun?'

After listening, Leo instantly understood the terrifying nature of this ability—the upper limit was extremely high, and the lower limit was extremely low. An ability with a gambling nature, combined with Theodore's crazy personality, was indeed a perfect match.

But he also noticed a loophole. Theodore had been too detailed. Too confident, and too stupid.

'So then...' Theodore laughed wildly, tossing the two dice high into the air.

'Let's see what fate has in store—'

He didn't finish his sentence. The moment the dice were still in the air, a figure had already appeared in front of Theodore.

Leo's speed exceeded the limit of Theodore's reaction.

He reached out with his left hand, firmly catching the two falling dice. At the same time, his right hand was already pressed against Theodore's face.

Theodore's pupils constricted, and the wild laughter on his face froze. He hadn't realized what was happening at all.

The next second, a tremendous force arrived. Leo grabbed his head and smashed it hard against the wall.

'Boom!' The wall cracked, and debris flew. Theodore's entire face was embedded in the wall, his nose shattered, and blood gushed out.

But this was just the beginning.

Leo released his hand, and just as Theodore's body began to slide down, a heavy punch slammed into his face.

'Bang!' His skull caved in. The second punch shattered his jaw. The third punch cracked his cheekbone.

Theodore couldn't even scream. His Nen collapsed and went out of control from the intense pain; he wanted to fight back, but Leo's fists fell like raindrops, each one carrying the terrifying power of Enhancer Nen.

The fourth punch, the fifth, the sixth...

When Leo stopped, Theodore was already slumped on the ground, unrecognizable, with no breath left.

With a highly comical death, he died at the hands of the opponent he had despised the most.

Leo released his tightly clenched left hand, and the two dice dropped beside Theodore's corpse.

He glanced at it with disdain.

'I appreciate your ignorance too, too much chatter, just a clown.'

The swirl tattoo on the back of his hand warmed slightly.

[Life Energy +300] [Rank: 25 (20.5%)]

Three hundred points. Far exceeding any beast hunted before.

Leo understood in his heart—killing a Nen User indeed yielded greater Life Energy.

But he also knew this was a special case. Theodore was too arrogant, too stupid, and had revealed the weaknesses and activation conditions of his ability entirely.

Under normal circumstances, battles between Nen Users would never be this simple.

'Must throw it...' Leo recalled Theodore's words.

'In other words, as long as the dice don't land, the ability won't activate.'

He let go, and the dice fell to the ground. He prepared to leave to help Gorenou.

A sudden change occurred. A massive, twisted, and malicious Nen erupted from Theodore's corpse!

Leo stumbled back several steps, his face full of shock.

This aura... it was Nen after death!

He had only seen descriptions of it in manga—a strong obsession born after a Nen User's death, but he hadn't expected to see it with his own eyes so soon, and with such astonishing intensity.

The black Nen, like smoke and mist, swirled and condensed in mid-air, emitting a suffocating sense of ominousness.

The two dice were pulled by it, slowly floating upward.

'...' Leo stared intently.

'These two dice must be turning into a Nen item.'

The swirling malicious Nen suddenly contracted, pouring into the two dice like a tide.

The dice vibrated violently, the numbers and luck symbols on their surfaces emitting a dark red glow, and the material gradually solidified from illusory Nen into a cold metallic texture.

The whole process lasted about ten seconds.

When the last trace of Nen was absorbed, the dice lost their buoyancy, and with two 'clinking' sounds, they fell to the ground and rolled to Leo's feet.

Leo observed them vigilantly for a moment, and after confirming there was no danger, he carefully picked them up.

They were cold and heavy in his hand, as if forged from some kind of black metal, with clear engravings on the surface. He tried injecting his Nen—

The dice vibrated slightly. A stream of information flowed into his mind: [Gambler of Fate · Nen Item] Ability Rules: Consume one day of lifespan to use the dice once. Throw the number die to determine the points (1-6 points), and the risk die to determine the enhancement or weakening effect. Great Luck: Strength increases by multiples based on the points. Small Luck: Strength increases by a percentage based on the points. Great Misfortune: Nen capacity is emptied, entering 'Zetsu,' and additional lifespan days corresponding to the points are consumed. Small Misfortune: Nen capacity is reduced by a percentage based on the points, and one additional day of lifespan is consumed. The effect lasts for three minutes, and the dice must land on the ground to take effect.

A flash of joy crossed Leo's eyes. Although there were now restrictions on 'consuming lifespan' and 'duration,' and the restriction of explaining the ability to others was gone, the value of this Nen item far exceeded his expectations.

Although there was a risk of rolling a 'Misfortune,' if he were lucky, it would be enough to turn the tide of battle.

'It seems my luck is indeed not bad.' He carefully put the dice away.

Outside the window, the sounds of gunfire and fighting had not stopped. Gorenou was still in a bitter fight.

Leo walked to the window and leaped down.

The height of the second floor was like walking on flat ground to him.

He bent his knees slightly as he landed, dust rising gently.

He looked at the battlefield in the distance ahead—the two Nen-beasts had already returned to Gorenou's side, struggling to hold on under the siege of Terence and Gabri.

Most of the Colton guards had fallen, leaving only a dozen or so still resisting stubbornly, while the Waldeck Family still had over forty people, and the situation was precarious.

Leo flexed his wrists.

Now, it was time to take care of the remaining trouble.
