Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight: Announcement

The return drive from Pawna Lake was a silence-drenched, glowing happiness. Tanishka snuggled up on Arjun, the sapphire ring twinkling softly on her finger in the late afternoon rays streaming through the car windows. They said very little, happy in the warm bubble of their renewed passion and a new life ahead. For Tanishka, the outside world felt both acutely familiar and terrifyingly novel. Pune, the city she recalled, was now superimposed with a ten years of change she was still adjusting to. But with Arjun at her side, steadfast and sure, the future seemed less like a scary mystery and more like an exciting journey.

Arjun drove cautiously, one hand periodically abandoning the wheel to settle reassuringly on hers. His mind, typically a tornado of corporate scheming, revenge fantasies and the incessant buzz of the Raktabeej power, was surprisingly quiet. The cold knot of loneliness and purpose that had driven him for ten years had finally loosened, replaced by a warmth that spread through his entire being. He had kept his promises, the dark and the bright, and now, against all odds, he had a chance at happiness. The thought was both exhilarating and terrifying. the existence he'd crafted, the foes he'd created in his merciless quest for supplies and payback, hadn't just disappeared. But for now, he let himself just be, just present, in the tentative calm he had discovered next to Tanishka. They returned to the penthouse as the evening set over Pune. The once-comfortable opulence was different now, less like a stronghold and more like a home that was ready to be lived in again. Jaya Shetty was there, she had come over to check on Tanishka. Her face bloomed with relief at their sight, but her keen eyes were quickly drawn to the fresh ring adorning Tanishka's finger, the silent bliss emanating from both of them.Am I interrupting something? Jaya inquired, a teasing smile tugging at her lips.Arjun grinned, pulling Tanishka closer. Well, Maa, he told his beloved adoptive mother, we have some news. He exchanged a glance with Tanishka, who blushed and nodded bashfully. Tanishka is going to marry me!"Jaya gasped, her hands to her mouth, tears immediately springing to her eyes. She bolted over, yanking them into a hysterical embrace. Oh, my children! I knew it! I always knew you two were destined! The years of worry, the long vigil beside Tanishka's bedside, the concern over Arjun's cold ambition – all seemed to melt away in this moment of pure, unadulterated joy.Balwant Shetty, who had been a few minutes behind, was alerted by Jaya's excited call and arrived moments later. A quiet, steady man who had always anchored Arjun, Balwant gazed from his son's glowing visage to Tanishka's luminous smile, and his own eyes melted with emotion. He laid a hand on Arjun's shoulder, squeezing it hard. Your dad would have been so proud, Arjun,' he said, his voice choked. And we… we are thrilled for you guys. They had spent the evening together, a real family being reunited, sharing stories and planning, the penthouse alive with laughter and happy tears, not the cold silence that had so often defined Arjun's life. The following day, Arjun came back to Sanjeevani BioTech, not just as the CEO — but as a transformed man. He had a spring in his step, a glow in his eyes that hadn't been there before. His initial appointment was with Pritam.

"Pritam," Arjun began, sitting behind his large desk, "I have some personal news I wanted to share with you first."

Pritam stood attentively, ready for the usual business directives. "Sir?"

'Ms. Chaudhary and I are engaged, Arjun', he said, a statement so simple yet so powerful.

Pritam's typically impassive face transformed into a broad, heartfelt grin. He had been with Arjun through the darkest years, had seen the obsessive drive fueled by Tanishka's condition. "Sir! That's... that's wonderful news! Truly wonderful. Congratulations!" His relief and joy for his boss were tangible.

'Thanks Pritam,' Arjun said, genuinely impressed by his PA's response. Now, business. I want to let everyone know at the company. And I mean to have you begin orchestrating an engagement party. Here, at the penthouse. Soon. Make it... memorable. No expense spared."

Pritam nodded, already scribbling notes, his mind flowing smoothly back to work mode, only there was now a new spring in his step. Consider it done, Mr. Shetty. Any particular date in mind?

At the earliest, Arjun responded. He wasn't going to blow another minute.

Later that afternoon, Arjun sent out a company-wide email, announcing his engagement to Tanishka Chaudhary. The news went like wild fire through Sanjeevani BioTech. It humanized the fierce, sometimes scary CEO. It talked about hope, about miracles, and it quietly bolstered the story of the company's eventual (albeit confidential) mission – advancing science at the edge for quasi-magical cures. The staff was abuzz with excitement and congratulations, a tsunami of good will sweeping through the corporate corridors.

That evening, Arjun placed another call, this one demanding a different sort of discretion. He first encountered Munna in the shadowy back room of a tiny, unassuming eatery in the decrepit old section of town, where deals were forged and honor was currency. Munna sat nursing a cutting chai, his usual wariness replaced by open curiosity as Arjun sat down opposite him.

"Good news, Munna," Arjun said, getting straight to the point. "Ms. Chaudhary... Tanishka... and I are getting married."

Munna blinked, genuinely surprised. He had known, of course, about Tanishka's recovery, had seen the change in the Boss. But marriage? That was a different level of commitment, a different level of vulnerability. "Boss! That's... fantastic news!" he said, a rough grin splitting his face. Congratulations! Truly. After all these years..." He sputtered, shaking his head in wonder. He then leaned forward, his face serious. But Boss… You do realize what this means. For... security?"

Arjun nodded, his own expression hardening slightly. "I know. Agrawal is still out there. Others too. They saw MahabalBalwant as a failure, but they won't stop trying. Now, they have another target."

"We'll handle it," Munna said, his voice low and firm. "My boys are loyal. We'll increase surveillance. Double the protection around Ms. Chaudhary. No one gets close. You have my word." He relayed the news to his small gang later, the reaction a mix of surprise and a grim understanding that their most important job – protecting the Boss and what he valued – had just become even more critical. The underworld buzzed with the news, a sign that Arjun Shetty might be settling down, perhaps becoming complacent, perhaps becoming an easier target. Munna made sure the message sent back was clear: Think twice.

With announcements made, both in the light and in the darkness, Arjun refocused on the near term… the engagement party. Pritam, true to form, had already turned the penthouse upside down. Florists, caterers, event planners – all scurried with silent efficiency beneath Arjun's gaze.

He craved perfection. Not a party, but a declaration. A statement that hope was back, that life continued. He included Tanishka in each decision, seeing her revel in selecting flowers, tasting menus, music. Her exuberance was contagious, breaking the residual tension inside of him. She appeared a little overwhelmed by the grandeur of it all – the invite list was Pune's elite, business leaders, politicians – but her joy was unmistakable. This party wasn't just for them, but for her, a spectacular welcome back to the world.

As the party day neared, the penthouse hummed with last-minute prep. Flowers came in rose cascades of color, crystal glasses shimmered and languorous music wafted in the air. Arjun stood, on the main balcony, gazing out at the sparkling Pune skyline. Tanishka had crept up behind him, arms around his waist.

It's going to be so beautiful, Arjun, she whispered, nestling her head against his back.

Your best, only,' he responded, turning and drawing her near.

He felt a profound sense of peace, a fragile but real happiness he hadn't thought possible. He had Tanishka back, his company was thriving, his enemies were quiet (for now), and his power remained his secret weapon. For the first time in a decade, the future seemed bright.

But even as he cradled Tanishka, a portion of his brain stayed aware. The Raktabeej blood hummed quietly beneath his skin. He glimpsed the shifty eyes of Munna's plainclothes security detail among the caterers below. He understood that this leap into the light, this public expression of joy, was also a risk, drawing a bullseye on that which he loved most.

The chapter ends with Arjun holding Tanishka on the balcony, the city lights reflecting in their eyes.
