Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Phase Two

The countdown timer on the computer screen continued ticking down.

09:48

The red numbers glowed in the dim laboratory like a warning from the future.

Ryan stared at it.

"I really don't like countdowns."

Another loud crash echoed from above.

The sound of heavy boots moving across the wooden floor of the house.

Multiple voices.

Armed men.

Searching.

Arian looked at the scanner again.

"They've surrounded the entire property."

Ryan sighed.

"Of course they have."

Ayesha stood still in front of the computer.

Her mind was racing faster than ever before.

Something inside her had changed.

Ever since she learned the truth about Project A…

Her thoughts felt sharper.

Clearer.

Almost like her brain had awakened.

Arian noticed her expression.

"Ayesha?"

She didn't answer immediately.

Instead she looked at the countdown again.

09:21

Ryan spoke quickly.

"We need to leave. Now."

Arian nodded.

"There should be another exit from this lab."

He started searching the walls for hidden mechanisms.

But Ayesha suddenly spoke.

"No."

Both men looked at her.

Ryan frowned.

"What do you mean 'no'?"

Ayesha pointed at the computer.

"This countdown isn't for the lab."

Arian paused.

"What?"

Ayesha stepped closer to the screen.

Her eyes moved rapidly across the lines of code displayed on the monitor.

She could read them.

Understand them.

Faster than ever before.

"It's a signal," she said quietly.

Ryan blinked.

"A signal for what?"

Ayesha's voice turned cold.

"For them."

The Trap

Arian quickly checked the system logs.

Then his eyes widened.

"She's right."

Ryan groaned.

"Please tell me this day can't get worse."

Arian explained quickly.

"The countdown is broadcasting a signal to all the units outside."

Ryan frowned.

"What kind of signal?"

Arian answered in a low voice.

"Execution order."

Ryan froze.

"You're kidding."

Ayesha shook her head.

"No."

Ryan looked at the timer again.

08:57

"So what happens when it reaches zero?"

Arian answered quietly.

"They kill everyone inside."

Ayesha's Mind Awakens

Ryan immediately grabbed his weapon.

"Well then we definitely need to move."

But Ayesha still wasn't moving.

Her eyes were locked on the computer screen.

Lines of code scrolled across the monitor.

And somehow…

She understood them all.

Every system.

Every command.

Every security layer.

Her fingers slowly moved across the keyboard.

Arian looked surprised.

"What are you doing?"

Ayesha didn't stop typing.

"Changing the rules."

Ryan raised an eyebrow.

"That sounds promising."

Her fingers moved faster.

Almost impossibly fast.

It felt like her brain was connected directly to the machine.

For the first time…

Project A was activating.

Outside the House

Upstairs, the armed soldiers moved carefully through the dark hallway.

Black uniforms.

Advanced weapons.

Their leader spoke quietly into a communicator.

"Target confirmed inside the basement."

A voice answered from the device.

"Proceed with Phase Two."

The soldier nodded.

"Understood."

They moved toward the staircase.

But suddenly their communication systems glitched.

Static filled their headsets.

The leader frowned.

"What the—"

Then their tactical screens shut down completely.

System Override

Back in the lab, Ayesha finished typing the final command.

The screen displayed a new message.

ACCESS GRANTED

Ryan stared at her.

"Okay… that was impressive."

Arian looked even more shocked.

"You just bypassed a military encryption system."

Ayesha exhaled slowly.

"I didn't bypass it."

She looked at the countdown.

Now frozen at 07:03

"I took control of it."

Ryan smiled slightly.

"Now that's what I call Phase Two."

But suddenly the speakers in the lab turned on again.

The mastermind's voice returned.

Slow.

Amused.

"Well done, Ayesha."

Arian immediately shut down the audio system.

But it didn't work.

The mastermind continued speaking.

"You've finally started using your true abilities."

Ryan glared at the cameras.

"You're really starting to annoy me."

The mastermind chuckled.

"Oh Ryan… you still don't understand."

His voice became darker.

"This was never about capturing her."

Ayesha's eyes narrowed.

"Then what?"

The mastermind answered with calm satisfaction.

"Testing her."

The Real Game

The lab lights flickered again.

The mastermind continued.

"For years, your mind has been operating at only ten percent of its true potential."

Ryan muttered,

"That's terrifying."

The mastermind continued.

"But tonight…"

"…you finally woke up."

Arian clenched his jaw.

"You manipulated her life just to activate Project A."

The mastermind replied softly.

"Yes."

Ayesha felt anger rising inside her.

"You killed my parents."

For the first time…

The mastermind paused.

Then he answered.

"No."

Ryan frowned.

"What?"

The mastermind spoke slowly.

"They died protecting you."

The room fell silent.

Ayesha's heart pounded.

"From who?"

The mastermind whispered the answer.

"From the people who are coming for you now."

Cliffhanger

Suddenly Arian's scanner beeped violently.

Ryan looked at him.

"More soldiers?"

Arian shook his head slowly.

"No."

He turned the screen toward them.

A massive convoy of armored vehicles was approaching the property.

Ryan stared.

"That's not a squad."

Arian nodded.

"That's an army."

Ayesha felt a chilling realization forming.

"Shadow Council."

The mastermind's voice returned one final time.

"Yes."

His tone was almost proud.

"Now the real game begins."

The countdown timer on the screen suddenly reset.

This time showing a new number.

60:00

And beneath it appeared a message.

"SURVIVAL TEST."
