Silent Night
3128.
I entered the PIN to my apartment.
It had been a long day.
Getting destroyed by that alien bitch had drained all my energy, and then came the endless hours in the arena's medical bay.
I still felt sore. My back hunched over.
I wanted nothing more than to lie down on my bed and forget about what happened today. I never want to meet that woman again.
I entered, closing the door behind me, and dragged myself toward the bedroom on the left. I dropped my handbag onto the chair. My body sagged as I flopped onto the bed, sprawled flat.
Sleep came over me instantly. Too fast, perhaps. My haunting dreams… were silent tonight.
My eyes opened to the weak sunlight streaming through the beige curtains. I stared at the ceiling, recalling what had happened yesterday. Reaver, one of the aliens staying on Earth, had beaten the shit out of me.
But the Earth Protectors remained by my side—Fern Mask, Odd Star, Black Watch—until I left.
My lips curled into a smile.
Sigh.
I picked up my phone, which I forgot to charge last night.
I groaned, reaching over to grab my phone's charger. My back still ached from yesterday's events. The phone buzzed before I turned it back on.
10:43 am.
Fuck. I was insanely late for work, but my back still ached. Not to mention the light throbbing on the side of my head from when that woman stepped on it, putting her entire weight down. Grant was going to choke me to death for being this late.
And on top of that, I had no interest in working today. My body begged me for more rest. One more day off wouldn't hurt me.
One day off wouldn't ruin me. I'd still manage to feed myself, and I still had my parents' fairs to help with.
I opened the chat with Grant. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, unsure what to type.
"Sorry for the late notice, but I can't make it today. I got an injury."
I didn't even care if he yelled. I needed this day off. I sent it, then switched off the phone and forgot about it.
I needed rest today.
Just rest…
My eyes fluttered shut as I went back to sleep.
