The movie was, objectively, not funny.

It was some kind of thriller — a man in a trench coat making urgent phone calls, another man following him through rain-slicked streets, dramatic music indicating that something significant was about to happen. Under normal circumstances, neither of them would have found it particularly amusing.

These were not normal circumstances.

"He doesn't even know he's being followed," Aurora said, her voice carrying the specific, loosened quality of someone whose internal filter had been gently relieved of duty. "He keeps looking at his phone. Just look up."

"He's going to look up," Liam said, with the grave confidence of a man making a prediction he felt very certain about.

The man on screen did not look up.

"He didn't look up," Aurora said.

"He will," Liam said. "Soon."

"You said that already."

"I'm committed to the position."
