A brief, anticipatory silence filled the room.
"What was that weird behavior?" Earl continued charging his dubious questions at him one by one, "You were breathing down my neck like some starving animal. And…"
"And?"
Just while elaborating, the memory sent an uncomfortable shiver down his spine when Earl grunted at him. "I am pretty sure I felt something sharp near my neck, too. What was that?"
For the first time since they met under the dazzling lights, Earl clearly noticed Edward's expression had shifted a little. Probably, for a fraction of a second.
His usual smug face looked a little pale before the reaction vanished behind a natural smile as he spoke.
"You were a little mistaken, honey. Indeed, I latched onto you because your scent felt too captivating for me to hold back, but that was it. You didn't feel anything near your neck."
Earl frowned, watching his crimson eyes linger on him before he erupted, "Scent? What scent?"
