The Return of Darkness
The night was unusually quiet.
A cold wind moved through the small town, carrying with it a strange and uneasy feeling. The streets were nearly empty, and the few people still outside hurried back to their homes.
Arif stood on the hill outside the town, watching the dark sky.
It had been six months since the Shadow Dungeon incident.
Six months since the Shadow System disappeared.
Life had become peaceful again. Monsters rarely appeared, and the town slowly returned to normal. Arif spent most of his time helping villagers and occasionally taking simple quests from the Adventurer Guild.
But tonight…
Something felt wrong.
Arif frowned slightly.
"Why do I feel… uneasy?"
The wind suddenly grew colder.
The sky above began to change.
Dark clouds gathered rapidly, covering the moon.

Back when he first entered the Shadow Dungeon.

A loud explosion echoed in the distance.
Arif immediately turned toward the sound.
"What was that?!"
Another explosion followed.
The town lights flickered.
People began shouting.
Panic spread quickly.
Arif jumped down from the hill and rushed toward the town.
As he reached the entrance, he saw something terrifying.
A giant crack had appeared in the sky.
It looked like the air itself was breaking apart.
Dark energy poured out from the crack like smoke.
Arif's eyes widened.
"A Gate…?"
But this wasn't a normal Gate.
It was far larger.
Far darker.
Suddenly—
A deep voice echoed across the sky.
A voice that sounded ancient and powerful.
"The world of shadows… shall rise again."
Arif froze.
That voice…
It felt familiar.
But before he could think further—
The crack in the sky exploded.
A massive black portal opened.
And from inside…
Monsters began to fall.
Large creatures made of shadow dropped from the sky.
They landed across the town.
People screamed.
Guards rushed forward.
"Monsters! Protect the town!"
Arif clenched his fists.
"Damn it…!"
He rushed forward to help.
One of the shadow monsters lunged at a child.
Arif jumped in front of it.
He raised his arm and punched the monster.
The creature flew back.
But something felt different.
Arif frowned.
"I'm weaker…"
Without the Shadow System, his power had decreased.
Still, he couldn't stop now.
He grabbed a fallen sword from the ground.
"Come on."
The monster attacked again.
Arif dodged and slashed.
The blade cut through the shadow creature.
It dissolved into smoke.
But more monsters kept coming.
The sky continued to open.
More shadows fell.
The entire town was under attack.
Arif fought continuously.
Sweat ran down his face.
His breathing became heavier.
"This is bad… there are too many…"
Suddenly—
A massive shadow appeared behind him.
Arif sensed danger and turned quickly.
A giant creature stood before him.
It was twice the size of a normal monster.
Its eyes glowed with dark purple light.
Arif felt pressure immediately.
"This one… is strong."
The monster raised its arm.
Then it slammed down.
Arif jumped back.
The ground shattered.
Dust filled the air.
Arif clenched his teeth.
"I can't lose here…"
The monster attacked again.
Arif dodged and tried to strike back.
But the creature blocked his attack easily.
It grabbed Arif and threw him across the street.
Arif crashed into a wall.
"Ugh…"
Pain spread through his body.
He slowly stood up.
"This… is harder than I thought…"
The monster walked toward him slowly.
Its eyes glowed brighter.
Just as it prepared to attack—

Everything stopped.
The wind froze.
The monsters stopped moving.
Time itself seemed to slow down.
Arif looked around in confusion.
"What…?"

A familiar sound echoed in his mind.

Arif's eyes widened.
"No way…"
The voice returned.

Arif's heart started beating faster.
"That voice… it can't be…"
A faint blue light appeared before him.
The screen flickered weakly.
[Host Identified: Arif]
Arif couldn't believe it.
"Shadow System…?"
The screen glowed brighter.
[Warning: Emergency Situation Detected]
[Reactivating System...]
Arif stared at the screen.
It had returned.
After six months…
The Shadow System had returned.
But something was different.
The screen changed.
Dark symbols appeared around the interface.
[Shadow System Version 2 Activated]
Arif felt a surge of energy flow through his body.
His wounds slowly healed.
His strength returned.
He clenched his fists.
Power filled his veins again.
"This feeling…!"
The monster roared and attacked again.
But this time—
Arif didn't move.
Instead, he raised his hand calmly.
Dark energy gathered around him.
The shadows beneath his feet moved.
Arif whispered quietly.
"Shadow… Step."
His body disappeared.
He appeared behind the monster instantly.
The creature turned too late.
Arif formed a blade of shadow.
"Shadow Blade."
He slashed.
The monster split in half.
It dissolved into smoke.

The other monsters hesitated.
Arif stood calmly.
His eyes glowed faintly with dark energy.
But suddenly—
The system displayed another message.

[Unknown Entity Detected]
Arif frowned.
"Unknown…?"
Then—
The sky cracked again.
A massive figure appeared inside the portal.
A humanoid shape made entirely of darkness.
Its eyes glowed like stars.
Arif felt overwhelming pressure.
His body trembled.
"This… power…"
The figure slowly stepped forward.
Its voice echoed across the sky.
"So… you are the new host."
Arif's eyes widened.
"You… who are you?"
The figure smiled slightly.
"I am the first…"
Dark energy filled the sky.
The pressure increased.
"The first Shadow King."
Arif's heart skipped a beat.
The Shadow King…
The true enemy had finally appeared.
The figure slowly raised its hand.
"Let me see… if you are worthy."
Darkness spread across the sky.
The real battle…
