Chapter 31: The Shadow Hunter
The battlefield slowly returned to silence.
The remains of the Nightmare Beast faded into black smoke. The broken town looked devastated, but the threat had finally ended.
Arif sat on the ground, breathing heavily.
His body felt incredibly heavy.
Using Shadow Domain and Shadow Clone at the same time had drained almost all of his energy.
Lina sat beside him.
"You really pushed yourself this time."
Arif gave a tired smile.
"Yeah… that was harder than I expected."
The system appeared again.
[System Notice]
[Player Level Increased]
[New Passive Skill Unlocked]
[Shadow Resistance Lv.1]
Arif's eyes widened slightly.
"So I leveled up again…"
Lina stood up and looked around.
"Looks like the town is safe now."
Guards and adventurers slowly began helping the injured.
Some people looked at Arif with admiration.
Others whispered quietly.
"He's getting stronger..."
"He saved us again…"
But Arif didn't feel relieved.
Something still felt wrong.
The Shadow King hadn't appeared.

Something worse was coming.
Later that evening…
Arif and Lina returned to the guild.
The guild master was already waiting.
"You handled things well."
Arif nodded.
"But it's getting worse."
The guild master sighed.
"I know. Reports are coming from other regions too."
Arif frowned.
"Other regions?"
The guild master nodded.
"Multiple gates are appearing across the country."
Lina's expression darkened.
"So it's spreading…"
The guild master looked serious.
"And there's more."
Arif looked up.
"What is it?"
The guild master placed a report on the table.
"A powerful monster… hunting strong adventurers."
Arif's eyes narrowed.
"Hunting?"
The guild master nodded.
"Several elite adventurers have already disappeared."
Lina crossed her arms.
"So it's targeting strong people."
Arif's expression became serious.
"Sounds like something intelligent."
The guild master nodded slowly.
"We believe it's connected to the Shadow King."
Silence filled the room.
Arif clenched his fists.
"So… another enemy."
That night…
Arif stood outside the guild building.
The moonlight covered the quiet town.
But Arif couldn't relax.
Suddenly—
The system flashed.
[Warning]
[High-Speed Entity Detected]
Arif froze.
"Already?"
He looked around.
The air suddenly became cold.
Then—
A shadow moved across the rooftop.
Arif's eyes widened.
"Fast…"
Suddenly—
A figure appeared in front of him.
A tall creature wearing dark armor.
But unlike previous enemies—
This one looked more human.
Its eyes glowed crimson.
The system appeared instantly.
[Boss Detected]
[Shadow Hunter]
[Threat Level: Very High]
The Shadow Hunter tilted its head slightly.
"So… you're the one."
Its voice was cold.
Arif stepped back.
"You can talk?"
The Shadow Hunter smiled faintly.
"Of course."
Arif's expression hardened.
"So you're hunting strong adventurers?"
The Shadow Hunter nodded slowly.
"Yes… and you are the strongest here."
Suddenly—
It vanished.
Arif activated Shadow Step instantly.
He barely dodged.
A blade sliced through the air.
"Fast!"
The Shadow Hunter attacked again.
Arif blocked.
CLANG!
The impact shook his arms.
"This thing is strong…"
The Shadow Hunter smiled.
"You've grown… but not enough."
It attacked again.
Faster.
Stronger.
Arif activated Shadow Armor.
Dark energy surrounded him.
Their blades clashed repeatedly.
Sparks flew.
The Shadow Hunter moved like a phantom.
Arif struggled to keep up.
Suddenly—
The Shadow Hunter kicked him.
Arif was thrown across the rooftop.
He rolled and stood up quickly.
The Shadow Hunter slowly walked toward him.
"You'll make a good prey."
Arif wiped blood from his lips.
"We'll see about that."
He activated Shadow Domain.
Darkness spread across the rooftop.
The Shadow Hunter paused.
"Oh… interesting."
Arif rushed forward.
He attacked rapidly.
The Shadow Hunter blocked skillfully.
Then—
It countered.
Arif barely dodged.
The fight intensified.
Both moved at incredible speed.
Suddenly—
The Shadow Hunter disappeared.
Arif's eyes widened.
"Where—"
A blade appeared behind him.
Arif turned.
Too late.
The blade cut his shoulder.
Blood splashed.
Arif stepped back.
"Damn…"
The Shadow Hunter smiled.
"You're slowing down."
Arif clenched his fists.
He activated Shadow Clone again.
A second Arif appeared.
The Shadow Hunter looked surprised.
"Oh… nice trick."
Both Arifs attacked together.
The Shadow Hunter dodged.
But it struggled slightly.
Arif saw the opening.
"Now!"
Both attacked simultaneously.
The Shadow Hunter blocked one.
But the second attack hit.
It stepped back.
A small crack appeared on its armor.
Arif smiled slightly.
"So you're not invincible."
The Shadow Hunter laughed softly.
"Good…"
Suddenly—
Dark energy exploded around it.
Its aura increased.
Arif's expression darkened.
"It's getting stronger…"
The Shadow Hunter rushed forward.
Faster than before.
The clone was destroyed instantly.
Arif blocked the next attack.
But the force pushed him back.
The Shadow Hunter raised its blade.
"Time to end this."
Suddenly—
A voice echoed.
"Arif!"
Lina arrived.
She jumped into the fight.
Her sword clashed with the Shadow Hunter.
Arif took a deep breath.
"You're late."
Lina smiled slightly.
"Missed me?"
Together—
They attacked.
The Shadow Hunter fought both of them.
The battle became intense.
But suddenly—
The Shadow Hunter jumped back.
It looked at Arif.
"You've grown stronger…"
It turned away.
"This isn't the right time."
Arif frowned.
"Running away?"
The Shadow Hunter smiled.
"No… just waiting."
It disappeared into the darkness.
Silence returned.
Arif breathed heavily.
Lina looked at him.
"This one… is dangerous."
Arif nodded.
"Yeah… very dangerous."
The system appeared.
[New Threat Identified: Shadow Hunter]
[Status: Active]
Arif looked at the sky.
The enemies were increasing.
The war was getting closer.
