Afterward, Isamu and Uchiha Mikoto chatted for quite a while, though most of their conversation revolved around her and Senba. As she spoke, her face radiated happiness, and Isamu could tell that marrying Senba had been the right choice for her.
"I never expected Tsunade not to come back for your wedding. That was truly going too far."
Hearing that Tsunade hadn't returned for Senba's wedding, Isamu frowned slightly. He had a legitimate reason for being unable to return, but Tsunade had remained in the Ninja World. Missing her own son's wedding was something he found difficult to accept.
"No, no. Mother sent us many gifts back then. Senba and I understand her situation, so I don't resent her at all," Mikoto said hurriedly, waving her hands. She was afraid her words might cause friction between the two elders.
"Sigh… Mikoto, you're far too kind and understanding. Still, that's exactly why I can rest easy leaving that hot-headed fool Senba in your hands."
Isamu sighed. On a day as important as a wedding, who wouldn't want their parents there to offer their blessings in person? Yet Mikoto had accepted everything with grace. The more he saw of her, the more he appreciated the daughter-in-law his son had chosen. A woman who was dignified, gentle, considerate, and devoted to her family was truly a blessing.
"It's really nothing…" Mikoto lowered her head shyly. She knew her father-in-law rarely praised anyone.
Glancing outside, she noticed the sun had climbed high into the sky.
"It's almost lunchtime. Father, please rest for a while. I'll go prepare the meal."
"Mm, it is about that time. Thank you for your hard work, Mikoto."
"It's no trouble at all. It's only what I should do. Please make yourself comfortable. I'll be back shortly."
With that, Mikoto excused herself. Although the servants could easily prepare the meal, she insisted on cooking personally. Her father-in-law had finally returned after so many years, and she wanted to show her respect through her own efforts.
Watching her leave, Isamu nodded in satisfaction.
He truly couldn't have asked for a better daughter-in-law. She was graceful, sensible, considerate, filial, and exceptionally capable. Women like her were rare.
"Oh… damn it."
Isamu slapped his forehead.
"I completely forgot to ask Mikoto whether they have any children. Am I really getting old? I wonder if that little one has already been born."
The "little one" he was referring to was naturally Uchiha Itachi.
Judging by the current timeline, the future genius should be around four or five years old. If Itachi had indeed been born into his family, then Sasuke, the reincarnation of Indra's chakra, would eventually be born as well.
Thinking of Itachi, Isamu immediately began wandering around the house, hoping to find some trace of his grandson. By his estimation, both Senba and Mikoto were around thirty years old, so they should certainly have children by now.
⸻
Meanwhile, the servant Mikoto had sent hurried to the Anbu headquarters, where Senba was buried beneath a mountain of paperwork.
"Lord Senba, Madam asked me to inform you that an important guest has arrived at the house. She requests that you return immediately."
"What important guest?" Senba replied impatiently without even looking up from the documents.
"Can't you see I'm busy? Go back and tell Madam to have this so-called important guest wait. I'll return after I finish my work."
The servant hesitated.
"Um… but judging from Madam's expression, this person's background seems extremely important. Lord Senba, perhaps you should return first?"
"Hm?"
That finally caught Senba's attention.
He knew Mikoto wasn't someone who made a fuss over trivial matters.
"Is it the old Third, or the head of another clan?"
"N-No… neither. I've never seen him before. He seems to be an outsider, and he isn't wearing the forehead protector of any village, so I can't identify him."
"An outsider? No village insignia?"
Senba immediately lost interest.
"Tch. Just another nobody. Let him wait."
He sat back down and continued reading the documents.
"…Understood, Lord Senba."
Knowing there was no persuading him, the servant could only bow and leave.
⸻
After returning home, the servant faithfully reported everything to Mikoto.
"What?! He actually said that?"
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
"Has he completely lost his mind? If the person in the main hall hears that, Senba is going to be beaten half to death!"
"Um… Madam, isn't that a little exaggerated?"
The servant looked confused.
Who in Konoha could possibly discipline Lord Senba? Even the Hokage treated him with great respect.
"Exaggerated?"
Mikoto sighed helplessly.
"Senba has no idea who he's offending. Forget it. If he doesn't come back, then so be it. Father is already unhappy with him anyway. I'll just wait until our son comes home. Maybe Father will spare Senba for the child's sake."
"Our young master?"
The servant blinked.
"Madam… who exactly is that person?"
"Don't ask questions you shouldn't. You'll find out soon enough."
Shaking her head, Mikoto returned to preparing lunch.
⸻
Meanwhile, after wandering through the estate for a while, Isamu stopped outside a particular room.
Opening the wardrobe, he found several sets of tiny children's clothes neatly folded inside.
A smile spread across his face.
"So there really is another child in this house."
His fingers gently brushed over the little outfits.
"Uchiha Itachi… is it you?"
His eyes filled with anticipation.
If it really was Itachi, then things were about to become very interesting indeed.
