Chapter 47 - The Memory That Starts Coming Back

Mira couldn't concentrate on work anymore.

The computer screen in front of her showed numbers and reports, but none of it made sense.

Her mind kept replaying the same message over and over.

"If I forget about tonight, don't remind me."

Her own words.

Written two months ago.

Why would she say something like that?

Why would she want to forget?

"Mira?"

Riya's voice pulled her back.

"You're staring at the screen again."

Mira blinked.

"Yeah… sorry."

Riya looked worried now.

"Maybe you should go home early today."

Mira almost agreed.

But something inside her said no.

If she left now, she would keep thinking about the rooftop anyway.

"I'm fine," Mira said quietly.

But she wasn't.

Not even close.

Around 4 PM, a strange feeling started building in her chest.

Not pain.

Not fear.

Just a heavy pressure.

Like her mind was trying to remember something it had locked away.

She closed her eyes for a moment.

And suddenly—

A flash appeared in her mind.

The rooftop.

The same wooden floor.

The night wind.

And him standing near the railing.

Mira opened her eyes quickly.

Her heart was racing.

Another flash appeared.

This time clearer.

She saw herself.

Standing across from him.

Talking quickly.

Her voice raised slightly.

They were definitely arguing.

Just like the security footage showed.

Mira grabbed the edge of her desk.

The memory was becoming stronger.

"You don't understand!" she heard herself saying.

The voice inside the memory sounded emotional.

Frustrated.

Almost desperate.

Then his voice appeared in the memory too.

Calm but firm.

"Why are you afraid of this?"

Mira's breathing became uneven.

Because she could feel the emotions from that moment.

The confusion.

The fear.

The strange connection between them.

"I'm not afraid," her past self replied.

But the words didn't sound convincing.

Another piece of memory appeared.

He stepped closer to her.

Standing exactly where he had stood the previous night.

"You feel it too," he said.

Mira's chest tightened.

She could feel that moment again.

That strange feeling they always had when they looked at each other.

Like something between them already existed.

"That's exactly why this is dangerous," her past self said.

Dangerous?

Why dangerous?

The memory shifted again.

The wind on the rooftop grew stronger.

Her hair moved across her face.

"You're overthinking again," he told her.

Mira almost smiled hearing that.

Because he still said that now.

But the next moment in the memory made her heart freeze.

Her past self suddenly said something serious.

"What if meeting you changes everything?"

He didn't answer immediately.

Then he said quietly,

"Maybe it's supposed to."

Mira felt a sharp wave of emotion from the memory.

Like her past self was standing on the edge of a big decision.

The memory moved again.

The argument had clearly been going on for a while.

"You don't understand my life," Mira said in the memory.

"My work, my family, everything…"

"And you think meeting me will ruin it?" he asked.

Mira hesitated.

Then answered honestly.

"No."

Her next words came slowly.

But clearly.

"I think meeting you will change it."

The rooftop fell silent in the memory.

Because that was the truth she had been avoiding.

Then something unexpected happened.

He smiled slightly.

The same calm smile Mira had seen many times before.

"Then why are you trying to stop it?"

Mira didn't answer immediately.

Finally she said the sentence that still echoed in her mind now.

"Because I don't know if I'm ready for it."

The memory suddenly stopped.

Mira opened her eyes again.

She was back in the office.

Her breathing slightly heavy.

That was it.

That was the argument.

Or at least part of it.

But something was still missing.

Something important.

Because the memory didn't show what happened after that moment.

The part where she asked Riya to help her forget.

"Mira?"

Riya's voice came again.

Mira looked up.

"I remembered something."

Riya looked surprised.

"What?"

"The argument."

Riya's eyes widened slightly.

"You remember it?"

"Part of it."

"What happened?"

Mira shook her head slowly.

"I don't know how it ended."

And that was the most frightening part.

Because if the argument had ended normally…

She wouldn't have asked Riya to erase the memory.

Which meant something must have happened after that conversation.

Something big enough to scare her.

That evening, Mira left the office quietly.

Her mind still full of fragments.

As she walked down the street…

Her phone buzzed.

A message from him.

"Did you talk to Riya?"

Mira typed back.

"Yes."

A few seconds later, another message came.

"Did you find anything?"

Mira stared at the screen for a moment.

Then replied.

"I remembered part of the argument."

The typing dots appeared immediately.

"And?"

Mira took a deep breath before answering.

"We were afraid of what might happen if we kept meeting."

There was a pause.

Then his reply came.

"That sounds like us."

Mira almost smiled.

But then she typed something else.

"But I still don't remember how the night ended."

This time his reply took longer.

When the message finally appeared…

It made Mira stop walking.

"Maybe the rooftop will help you remember."

Her heart started beating faster again.

Because that meant one thing.

They were going back there tonight.

And this time…

The missing part of the memory might finally return.
