Chapter 20 - TURNING THE TABLES

The estate was alive with quiet activity, the morning sunlight streaming through the grand windows. Lydia moved with purpose, her mind focused on the final stages of the contract. The months of observation, strategy, and careful navigation had honed her instincts—and tonight would be her ultimate test.

Malik appeared silently at her side, handing her a carefully folded note. "Tonight," he said, voice low and precise, "you will not just survive—you will command the room. Influence, strategy, control. Show them you are not merely a wife on paper, but a force to be reckoned with."

Lydia's pulse quickened, a thrill mingling with the tension. She had prepared for this moment, and now it was time to act.

The evening gathering was held in the grand hall, filled with the city's most influential figures. Each interaction was a delicate dance of words, gestures, and unspoken power plays. Lydia moved confidently, turning attempted manipulations into opportunities, subtle challenges into demonstrations of insight.

She noticed Malik watching her from across the room, his expression unreadable but undeniably attentive. With every measured response, she felt the balance of power shifting—slowly, almost imperceptibly, yet unmistakably.

By the end of the night, Lydia had earned respect, commanded attention, and subtly outmaneuvered the challenges set before her. Malik approached her quietly as they left, his gaze lingering in a way that made her heart skip.

"You've done more than I expected," he said, voice low. "You've changed the rules of the game—and perhaps… even the outcome of the contract itself."

Lydia allowed herself a small, victorious smile. For the first time, she realized that survival had become mastery—and that the contract, once a binding limitation, had become the very thing that allowed her to rise.

And deep down, she knew that this was only the beginning of something far greater than either of them had anticipated.
