Chapter 69 - Chapter 69 Emerging Cracks

After Sunset Shimmer finished tidying up her completed notes and returned the woodworking encyclopedia to the bookshelf, she belatedly realized that she had been immersed in it for a long time.

This made her feel a bit embarrassed, as she had been the most resistant one before coming in.

However, it was strange that Aurora hadn't immediately jumped out to mock her.

Looking back, Aurora was no longer in the Library; only Twilight Sparkle remained, and she looked a bit distracted.

"Twilight, do you know where Flying Light went?"

"Wah!"

Twilight Sparkle had been lost in thought and, startled by Sunset Shimmer's sudden address, couldn't help but yelp, earning a warning glare from the awakened librarian.

"What's wrong? Why do you look so nervous?"

"Ner... nervous? Not at all! I was just reading a thriller novel and got to the exciting part, heh heh... ha..."

Sunset Shimmer looked at Twilight Sparkle's forced smile, then glanced at the black-covered thriller novel she was holding.

She raised an eyebrow, clearly not believing Twilight Sparkle's clumsy reaction.

"Why isn't Flying Light here? Is something wrong with her?"

"No!"

"Ahem!"

The librarian coughed and tapped the table lightly, her expression becoming displeased; clearly, this was the final warning.

Sunset Shimmer gave the librarian an apologetic smile, returned the novel—which Twilight Sparkle hadn't even read a few pages of—to its place, and then led Twilight Sparkle out of the Golden Oak Library.

"Tell me the truth, what is actually going on with Flying Light?"

"Uh... she went to the post office... said she wanted to send a postcard of Ponyville home."

As if to convince herself, Twilight Sparkle nodded vigorously after speaking.

However, Sunset Shimmer wasn't buying it at all; she looked at the sweating Twilight Sparkle with a slightly scrutinizing gaze, then sighed.

She knew Flying Light must have told Twilight Sparkle to do this, and continuing to press her wouldn't be of any use.

She figured Flying Light must have kept it from her to avoid worrying her, or out of other considerations.

It was likely that some difficult problem had indeed arisen, causing Aurora to be so on guard.

It was just that Sunset Shimmer didn't understand; everything had been fine, so how did things suddenly become like this, and why couldn't she know?

"I think I'll go ask her in person. So, did Flying Light say where we should look for her? Or should we wait here for her to come back?"

Seeing that Sunset Shimmer was no longer pressing for answers, Twilight Sparkle let out a sigh of relief.

She was still just a Foal who had only recently started school; she didn't yet know how to hide her emotions and worries.

"Flying Light said if she hasn't returned after three o'clock, we should go to the station and wait for the train."

Twilight Sparkle took a watch out of her bag and checked the time.

"It's about time; we should just head straight to the station."

Sunset Shimmer nodded, and she and Twilight Sparkle headed together toward the Ponyville station.

She had a faint, uneasy feeling, but she would have to wait until she saw Aurora to figure everything out.

"By the way, Sunset, what book were you reading so intently just now?"

Twilight Sparkle suddenly asked.

"Nothing."
