Chapter 33 - Prelude to the Duel

Jason's watch beeped informing him that the fight was about to begin. He closed his eyes and took a deep breathe before getting up outof the chair. His nerves were on fire as his heart started to beat faster in his chest. He knew what the symptoms of his body were giving off. He was experiencing battle jitters. Despite the symptoms he was experiencing, he had a massive grin on his face.

He steadied his breathe and walked out of the room. He followed the arrow that led him to the entrance of the arena. Eventually he encountered a large wooden gate that was to be opened when he was introduced and he would step onto the arena. So he waited patiently for the gate to open.

The headmistress sat in the VIP seating area when a thought crossed her mind. It was a thought that could provide some enlightenment to the audience. She then got out of her seat and moved out of the VIP section and walked away. To the staff of the academy, this act was best described as a whim of the headmistress. To the headmistress, she simply wanted the best possible view of the fight. The longer she waited, the more her instincts yelled at her that she needed to witness this event. She knew something exciting was about to take place. It wouldn't be long before she saw something that would later give her hope that the world being held on a knife's edge, could be saved.

Headmistress Morgan made it to the announcer booth, sat down and called the fighters to their positions. It was time to begin the match.

Ulfgar took the weapon out of the roaring flame for the last time and brought his hammer down. After a couple of swings he took the weapon and submerged it in dark crystallized water, immediately cooling the weapon. The weapon was forged, but the guard and the handle still needed to be worked on. Yet the hard part was over. He turned to grab some more of the materials when he noticed there were less materials to work with. He looked around and noticed that Sophie was already putting the finishing touches on the guard. She noticed him staring and handed the now finished guard to him. He grabbed it and glanced at it before giving his approval. The pair then got to work on the handle. The weapon was close to being finished. Now they just needed Jason to buy some time during his fight.

The crowd was excited about the upcoming match. Some were disappointed that they didn't get to see the fight that Sophie was in. It was over too fast. So they were ecstatic that a new fight was about to begin. And in the midst of the crowd sat Jessica.

Jessica was anxious to say the least. Her breathing was erratic and her heart was racing in fear. Her legs were shaking in her seat and her hands were closed so tight her nails were digging into her palms. She was using such force in her hands that if she were human, she would have drawn blood. She couldn't focus on anything at all and the longer she waited, the worse she felt. Her thoughts were a chaotic mess. 'How did this even happen? What if he dies? He such a good man. He doesn't deserve that. He's still young. Sure he got stronger swiftly but that doesn't mean he'll be able to handle something like a leviathan. His blessing is too weak for something of that caliber. What about the nights we share? He's my first. My only. There is no future for me without him. I need him in my life.' Her eyes were moist with unshed tears. 'He has to make it through. If he doesn't, I'm going to the underworld, kick his ass and drag him out by the hair if I have to.'

Jessica still doesn't know Jason is a phoenix. He never told her. So she continues to worry for his safety. In public duels like this, death can happen. It's just not often, but it's a real possibility. It's because of this reason, she worries so much.

Jiang Yue finally sat down in her chair on the VIP seats. She was tense after the events that just unfolded. Her student council uniform was as perfect as the day it was made. Her Snow White hair was in a pony tail and flowed down to her waiste. Unlike the rest of the student council, she knew what the headmistress was trying to convey when she gave the order to watch Jason and Anthony fight. She closed her eyes deep in thought. 'I wonder what kind of abilities he will show?' She opened her eyes and looked down at the arena. She crossed one leg over the other and waited for the match to begin.

Next to Jiang Yue was a girl. She had pink hair pulled up in a small braid that was currently over her shoulder. A pure white dress hugged her body perfectly displaying her curves. Her massive chest had an allure of its own but paired with perky butt, thin waiste and thick thighs made any man want to drop everything and give in to temptation. She had a set of pearl earrings decarating her ears. She sat with her legs close together and hands in her lap. She looked over at Jiang Yue.

"So Student Council President. Who do you think will win?" She asked. Her voice was as soft and gentle as the summer wind.

Jiang Yue looked at the arena with a frown. "Based off of facts, I have no clue. There is too little known about Jason to make an accurate prediction. However, Anthony being a leviathan is no small matter to over look."

"And your gut feeling?"

"My gut tells me Jason is a wildcard that is waiting for the perfect moment to display what he is really capable of. My instincts tell me that Jason is a dark horse.

"So you think Jason will win?"

"I do."

"Hmmm" The pink haired woman put her hand to her chin in contemplation.

"What are you thinking about Affie?" Jiang Yue asked.

"Just thinking that if he's interesting, I might pay him a visit." She said with a slight smile.

Jiang Yue rolled her eyes at Addie's statement. She knew what those words meant. It's not the first time this happened after all. Affie takes special interest in capable warriors. Once she meets them, she lures them in and plays with them for a while. Once she's had her fill, they are then discarded. Jiang Yue shakes her head at Jason's future misfortune.

'You best run little junior' she thinks to herself. 'Affie isn't one to hold herself back on her desires. And if she desires you, only the gods can save you then.' The two go back to observing the empty arena.

Headmistress Morgan grabbed the microphone in her hands and started to speak to the audience. "The match between Jason and Anthony will begin momentarily. Everyone please move toward your seats." Everyone heading in the direction of the arena started to quicken their pace.
