Adrastos arrived on a Thursday, on a trading ship, without announcement.
Lysander learned of it the way he learned of most things that mattered — from Fylon, who appeared at the supply office door in the mid-morning with the contained quality of someone carrying information they had assessed before bringing it.
"Carian trading ship. Docked at the second pier an hour ago. One passenger above the standard crew complement. He asked for you by name at the harbor gate."
"Not Ampelos."
"You specifically."
Lysander set down the supply allocation he had been working through.
He thought about what it meant that Adrastos had come in person rather than sending a response through the channel they had established. A letter traveled through intermediaries — it could be delayed, intercepted, misread. A man who came himself had decided the matter was too important for any of those risks. He had decided it was worth the journey.
