Vessa tasted like the candied figs she'd been eating all afternoon, which was distracting, because Katarina was trying to focus on the mechanics of kissing and the sweetness on Vessa's lips kept pulling her attention sideways.
They were on Katarina's bed. Vessa was sitting with her back against the headboard and Katarina was in her lap, which had happened naturally about five minutes ago when a kiss on the cheek turned into a kiss on the mouth and that turned into Katarina's hands on Vessa's shoulders and her brain going blank.

Vessa's hand was on the back of Katarina's neck, warm fingers threaded through her hair, and Katarina was discovering in real time that years of theoretical knowledge about desire did absolutely nothing to prepare you for the reality of a pretty girl's tongue in your mouth.
