By breakfast the next day, it became clear she'd been busy. The small percentage of students who had gone on the field trip would walk up to Kat and be like, "Hey, we heard you're collecting anecdotes? Can we say something?" While the students who didn't go would look at her with sympathy and pity.
And Katarina guessed that the Compasso knew how dangerous a weapon sympathy could be.
"Is it true?" Pirra asked as they ate together.
"Maybe, maybe not. That doesn't matter," Katarina replied. "What matters is that the ball is in the Compasso's court."
Pirra chewed on that for a second.
"Meaning what?"
Katarina didn't answer right away.
