A few miles away from the stronghold where the others were fighting, the sand moved.
A figure crawled through it with deliberate slowness.
His body was kept low and merged with the dunes. The sandstorm howled loudly all around him, a relentless wall of grit and wind that reduced visibility to almost nothing. But it was not a problem for him.
Right now, he was prepared for this.
A dragon mask covered his face, and over it—a cloth wrapped tight to protect his lungs from the swirling particles. Kai had learned that lesson the hard way during his first week—within the Barbarian Hold.
Other than the monsters roaming about, the environment was also as harsh.
Kai crawled up the dune—making sure his movement was still slow and careful and stopped right at the top. The sand stung his eyes even through the mask, but he pushed through. Once he settled properly, keeping his body flat against the sand, he stared ahead.
For a long moment, there was nothing.
Just the sandstorm.
