Despite the smiles on their faces, Lancel couldn't help but sense the murderous intent beneath their eyes. Strangely enough, it wasn't coming from Ishtar, who was the most expressive, but from Mei.
That alone told him everything he needed to know. Mei, who was usually aloof and indifferent outside of sex, was smiling.
That was never a good sign.
"Lancel," Countess Gretelle began, setting down her teacup. "Miss Prelati and Miss la Blanc are here to see you. You truly have some interesting connections."
"Yes. Ahaha…"
Lancel let out a dry, awkward laugh, only for Fiore to nudge him lightly on the shoulder.
"Friends of yours?" she asked, tilting her head.
"…Something like that."
"Something like that?" Fiore narrowed her eyes slightly. "And they both just happen to be women?"
"Since when is anyone in Rivere not a woman?"
There were men, of course. But true citizens of Riviere were witches.
