Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 – Walking Straight Into a Fortress

Just as the room fell into silence, Liam spoke again, his tone calm and almost casual. "Actually, this isn't that complicated. Just leave it to me."

Thunderbird blinked, clearly caught off guard. "Leave it to you?" His brows furrowed slightly, unable to grasp what Liam was implying.

"That's right."

Thunderbird studied him for a moment before guessing, "Do you mean Professor X is sending help?"

"Relax," Liam said with a faint smile. "You'll see once I head out."

"I'm coming with you," Clarice said immediately, stepping closer without hesitation.

"That's fine," Liam replied after a brief pause. "But when the time comes, you stay outside and be ready."

"Got it." Thunderbird nodded decisively, then turned and called over a few mutants with decent combat ability, quickly making arrangements.

"Alright, let's move," Liam said, waving his hand as he headed toward the exit without any unnecessary buildup.

He reached the doorway, then suddenly stopped, turning back toward the group with an awkward expression. "By the way… how do I get to the Garland Detention Center?"

The room went completely silent.

Inside the car, Liam sat with a faintly embarrassed look on his face. This was his first time in Mexico City, and he genuinely had no sense of direction here. Of course, there was no way he'd admit he'd just charged ahead without even knowing where he was going.

Clarice, sitting beside him, couldn't hold back a quiet laugh when she saw his expression. The tension from earlier eased just a little.

Two hours later, they finally arrived.

From a distance, the Garland Detention Center loomed like a fortress. The entrance was heavily guarded, with patrols constantly moving back and forth. The level of security made it look less like a prison and more like a military installation guarding something extremely dangerous.

After getting out of the car, Thunderbird spoke in a low voice. "We can't go any closer. If they spot us, things will get messy fast."

Liam nodded lightly. "That's fine. I'll take it from here."

Thunderbird frowned. "What exactly are you planning to do? Did the X-Men send anyone?"

"…No," Liam said with a shrug. "But I'm enough."

The simplicity of his answer made several people freeze.

Harry stared at him, disbelief written all over his face. "You're kidding, right?"

"This isn't a normal detention center," Thunderbird added seriously. "Sentinel Services runs this place. They've got specialized anti-mutant weapons everywhere."

"I'm not joking," Liam replied calmly. "You guys just stay here and be ready to pick us up. I'll bring Lorna out."

Without waiting for further discussion, he started walking toward the main gate.

The others exchanged uncertain glances, clearly debating whether they should stop him.

"Wait, I'm going with you," Clarice said, stepping in front of him.

"My ability is teleportation," she continued quickly. "If you find Lorna, I can get you both out instantly."

Liam shook his head. "No need."

He had no intention of retreating. With his current abilities—and the option of spatial movement—getting in and out wasn't a concern for him.

Seeing his firm refusal, Clarice hesitated but didn't push further.

"Oh, right," Liam suddenly added, glancing at the group. "Anyone have a mask I can borrow?"

He figured it was better not to expose his identity so directly.

The group looked at each other, slightly confused, until Harry rummaged through the car and pulled out an old cartoon mask.

"Here."

"Thanks."

Liam put it on without hesitation. It looked ridiculous, but that wasn't the point. As long as it covered his face, it did the job.

Then, just like that, he walked straight toward the heavily guarded entrance of the detention center.

Behind him, Thunderbird and the others watched closely, their nerves tightening. If anything went wrong, they'd have to act immediately.

"Stop!"

Before Liam could get too close, one of the guards at the gate spotted him and raised his weapon.

"Evening, gentlemen," Liam said casually, lifting a hand in greeting.

"Stop where you are, or we fire."

The guard didn't return the friendliness. The rifle in his hands was already aimed directly at Liam, finger ready on the trigger.

Liam didn't slow down.

From a distance, Thunderbird's group tensed, their eyes locked on the unfolding scene.

Bang!

The gunshot echoed sharply through the night.

The bullet struck Liam—

—and instantly ricocheted back, slamming into the arm of the guard who fired it.

The man cried out in pain, his rifle dropping to the ground as he staggered back.

"Mutant!"

One of the other guards shouted, and the entire detention center erupted into alarm.

Gunfire exploded all at once.

Bullets poured toward Liam in a storm of metal, but he continued walking forward at the same steady pace, completely unfazed.

Every single bullet that reached him was deflected, bouncing off at impossible angles. Several guards were hit by their own reflected shots, dropping one after another.

"Stop firing! Regular rounds aren't working—switch to stun weapons!"

Under the command of one of the officers, the guards quickly changed tactics, pulling out specialized stun guns designed specifically for mutants. These weapons were built to incapacitate targets instantly.

"Stun guns?" Liam let out a small laugh. "Those won't work either."

The next moment, arcs of electricity surged toward him.

And just like the bullets before them—

they were reflected.

The electrical currents snapped back at the guards, striking them directly. One by one, the men collapsed, their bodies convulsing before going still.

Liam didn't even pause.

Step by step, he walked straight through the entrance of the Garland Detention Center, unstoppable.

Within seconds, news of a mutant breaching the facility began racing up the chain of command.
