The next morning, Levis stepped out of his room feeling completely refreshed, his body light and his mind clear after a full night's rest. The events from the previous night still lingered faintly in his thoughts, but they didn't weigh on him. Right now, something far more immediate occupied his attention—breakfast.
After bringing Magneto and his entire group back to the academy, Professor X had spent the entire night in a private discussion with Magneto. Whatever they talked about, Levis hadn't bothered to find out. Those kinds of high-level conversations were better left to people like them, especially when it involved politics, ideology, and the future of mutantkind.
What he did know was that the situation from last night couldn't possibly stay hidden for long. Even though he had perfectly restored the statue, there were too many moving parts, too many witnesses, and too many interested parties. News would spread sooner or later. Still, that wasn't his problem. If anything came of it, Professor X and Magneto would deal with the fallout.
Levis stretched lazily as he walked down the corridor, already heading toward the student cafeteria. He hadn't eaten yet, and after everything that had happened, he wasn't about to skip a meal.
"Hey! Weiss!"
A voice called out from behind him just as he reached the hallway corner. Levis turned, a faint smile already forming when he saw who it was.
"Morning, Mary," he greeted casually, his tone relaxed.
Rogue jogged up to him, holding a small bag in her hand, her expression bright with a hint of anticipation. She lifted the bag slightly as she spoke. "You haven't eaten yet, right? I brought you something."
Levis blinked, clearly caught off guard. He hadn't expected that at all. For a moment, he wondered how she had known he'd skipped breakfast, or how she'd managed to find him so precisely. Still, he didn't dwell on it.
Instead, he accepted the bag without hesitation, grinning as he did. "Thanks. Perfect timing."
He was just about to look for a place to sit and eat when another familiar figure approached from the opposite direction.
"Wes, want to grab breakfast together?" Clarice called out, her tone cheerful as she walked over.
She slowed the moment she got closer, her expression shifting when she noticed Rogue standing there—and more importantly, the breakfast already in Levis's hand.
"Oh…" Clarice hesitated, her words trailing off as the situation registered.
Levis glanced down at the bag in his hand, then at the two girls standing in front of him. For the first time that morning, he felt a faint headache coming on. The timing couldn't have been worse.
For a brief second, no one spoke. The air between them grew slightly awkward, though neither Rogue nor Clarice openly reacted. Still, the tension was unmistakable.
Before Levis could figure out how to handle the situation, a new presence approached from not far away.
A middle-aged man in a neatly pressed suit walked toward them with measured steps. He wore sunglasses despite being indoors and carried a sleek black case in one hand. He stood around the same height as Levis, though his most noticeable feature was his receding hairline, which made his forehead seem unusually prominent.
Stopping in front of the three of them, the man gave a polite nod. "Excuse me. I'm looking for Professor Xavier, the headmaster of this school. Is he available?"
Levis folded his arms slightly, his eyes narrowing as he examined the man. There was something about him—his posture, his tone—that immediately gave away his identity.
"Who are you?" Levis asked directly.
The man didn't seem offended in the slightest. Instead, he calmly reached into his jacket and pulled out a badge. "Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Phil Coulson. I'm a Level 7 agent with the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division."
Levis's lips twitched almost imperceptibly.
So it really was him.
Phil Coulson. A key figure behind the scenes of countless major events, someone who played a quiet but critical role in bringing powerful individuals together. Approachable, polite, and far more capable than he appeared at first glance.
Still, that name…
Levis tilted his head slightly, a hint of mischief in his expression. "That's a mouthful. What was that organization called again?"
Phil Coulson maintained his smile, though there was the faintest flicker of patience being tested. "Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division," he repeated calmly.
"Oh, right." Levis nodded as if he had just remembered, though his tone made it clear he was doing it on purpose. "Well, if you're here for Professor X, come with me."
As he spoke, he casually handed the breakfast bag over to Clarice without hesitation.
"Clarice, you haven't eaten yet, right? You can have this," he said naturally. "I'll take this agent to see Professor X."
Rogue's expression froze for just a fraction of a second, while Clarice blinked in surprise before instinctively accepting the bag.
Phil Coulson, meanwhile, couldn't help the slight twitch at the corner of his mouth when he heard the casual way Levis referred to his organization earlier. Still, he said nothing, simply adjusting his grip on the case.
"Thank you," Coulson said politely.
"No problem," Levis replied with a relaxed wave. "Come on, Agent Coulson."
The two of them walked off together, leaving behind an oddly quiet atmosphere.
Clarice and Rogue stood there for a moment, neither speaking. The tension hadn't disappeared—it had simply shifted into something quieter, more subtle, lingering just beneath the surface.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the academy, Coulson took the initiative to start a conversation as they walked.
"By the way, I didn't catch your name," he said, glancing at Levis with a friendly expression. "You're a student here, right?"
"Yeah," Levis replied easily. "Name's Levis."
Coulson nodded, committing it to memory. "I appreciate your help, Mr. Weiss."
Levis waved it off with a small smile. "You're too polite, Agent Coulson."
Despite his casual tone, Levis remained quietly observant. Coulson might appear approachable, but he was still an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. People like him didn't show up without reason, and they certainly didn't leave without gathering information.
Before long, they arrived at Professor X's office.
Levis knocked once before stepping inside. "Professor, Agent Phil Coulson is here to see you."
Professor X looked up, recognition flickering across his face almost immediately. "Ah, Agent Coulson. I see."
Then his gaze shifted toward Levis. "By the way, Weiss, Erik is looking for you. You can head over to him."
Levis paused for a brief moment, slightly surprised. Magneto was looking for him?
That wasn't something he had expected this early in the day. Still, it worked out. He had a few questions of his own.
"Got it," Levis said with a nod. "You two talk. I'll head out."
Without lingering, he turned and left the office, closing the door behind him.
As for whatever Professor X and S.H.I.E.L.D. needed to discuss, Levis had no interest in getting involved.
