Chapter 45: The Weight of Something Greater

The ground didn't just tremble.

It groaned.

Like the world itself was resisting what was coming.

Far beyond the fractured horizon.

The titan rose.

Not fully.

Not all at once.

Piece by piece.

Stone.

Void.

Something… older than both.

It moved like a mountain learning how to walk again.

And every step.

Bent the world.

Silence fell over the team.

Not fear.

Not yet.

Recognition.

"…That's not something we can outmaneuver," Tovin said quietly.

"…Or overpower," Bram added.

Lira exhaled slowly.

"…So what's the plan?"

All eyes turned.

Not to Kade.

To Kael.

He felt it.

That shift.

Before.

He would've tried to lead.

Tried to take control.

Now.

He didn't.

"…We don't beat it," Kael said.

A pause.

"We survive it."

Kade, standing behind them.

Said nothing.

He didn't move.

Didn't step in.

He was watching.

The titan took another step.

Closer now.

The pressure hit.

Not physical.

Existential.

Like standing before something that didn't acknowledge your right to exist.

Nyra steadied her breathing.

"…Stay together."

Tovin nodded.

"…We adapt."

Bram stepped forward slightly.

"…Then let's move."

The titan's arm shifted.

Slow.

Massive.

And then.

It swung.

The air collapsed.

"MOVE!" Tovin shouted.

They scattered.

Not randomly.

Together.

The impact hit the ground.

And the world broke.

Fragments exploded outward.

Shockwaves tearing through the terrain.

Kael barely redirected the force.

Bram caught part of the impact.

Sliding back.

"…That's not survivable if it hits clean," he grunted.

"No kidding!" Lira snapped.

The titan didn't pause.

It moved again.

Faster this time.

A second strike.

Different angle.

Unpredictable.

Tovin reacted instantly.

"Left—now—don't split!"

They moved as one.

But the scale.

Was different.

Their coordination worked.

But the titan didn't care.

Nyra released controlled energy.

Trying to stabilize the incoming force.

It barely slowed it.

"…It's too much," she said.

Kael stepped in.

Letting the surge flow.

Redirecting what he could.

But even that.

Wasn't enough.

The impact still hit.

They were thrown back.

Hard.

Lira rolled.

Barely regaining her footing.

"…Okay—that's bad."

Bram pushed himself up.

"…We haven't even hurt it."

Silence.

Because it was true.

The titan hadn't reacted.

Hadn't flinched.

Hadn't even acknowledged them.

They weren't a threat.

Tovin's mind raced.

Calculating.

Adapting.

"…There has to be a weakness," he said.

He analyzed its movements.

Timing.

Structure.

"…No visible core… no consistent pattern… no. "

He stopped.

"…No solution."

That hit harder than anything else.

Kael clenched his fists.

"…Then we make one."

The team regrouped.

They moved again

This time

Attacking.

Lira struck first.

Fast.

Precise.

Her blade hit the titan's surface.

Nothing.

Not even a mark.

"…Seriously?" she said.

Bram followed.

Driving all his force into a single point.

Redirecting everything into one strike.

The impact echoed.

But the titan.

Didn't move.

Nyra stepped forward.

Controlled energy releasing.

Balanced.

Focused.

It hit.

And dissipated.

"…It's not enough," she said.

Tovin stepped in.

Timing.

Position.

Everything aligned.

A perfect strike.

It landed.

Nothing.

Silence.

Kael stepped forward last.

The Forgotten stirred.

Power rising.

Not uncontrolled.

Not suppressed.

Balanced.

He struck

Everything he had.

Everything he had learned.

The impact hit.

The titan paused.

For a moment.

Hope.

Then.

It moved.

Unaffected.

Kael stepped back slowly.

"…We didn't do anything," he said.

No one answered.

Because they all knew.

They gave everything.

Every skill.

Every lesson.

Every ounce of strength.

And it didn't matter.

The titan raised its arm again.

This time

Faster.

Stronger.

"Brace!" Bram shouted.

They moved.

Together.

Trying to survive.

The impact came.

And this time.

They couldn't fully avoid it.

The shockwave hit.

Everything went white.

Silence.

When the dust settled

They were down.

Not unconscious.

But close.

Kael pushed himself up

Barely.

Bram struggled to stand.

Lira didn't move for a moment.

Then groaned.

Nyra's breathing was uneven.

Tovin… was still.

"…We can't win," he said quietly.

The words hung in the air.

Not defeat.

Reality.

The titan moved again.

Closer.

This time

It wasn't just attacking.

It was ending it.

And behind them.

Kade watched.

Still.

Silent.

Not stepping in.

Because this

Was something they had to understand.

Power alone.

Wasn't enough.

Even together

They weren't enough.

The titan's shadow fell over them.

And for the first time.

They truly felt it.

The gap.

The difference between strength

And something greater.
