Chapter 70 - Chapter 70:The one who remains

Chapter 70: The One Who Remains

Everything stilled.

Not because the force was gone.

But because it had reached its answer.

Kael stood at the center.

Between two states.

Between two truths.

The pressure still surrounded him.

Endless.

Absolute.

But it no longer consumed him.

It recognized him.

"…You define."

Dravok's voice echoed through everything.

No longer testing.

Deciding.

"…Then you remain."

Silence followed.

Not empty.

Final.

Kael exhaled slowly.

His body trembled.

Not from force.

From what came after it.

Because now.

It was over.

Or at least.

This part of it was.

Behind him.

Something shifted.

Fading.

Kael turned.

And saw Kade.

Standing.

But barely.

His form flickering.

Edges dissolving.

Like he was losing connection to the space itself.

"…Kade…?" Kael's voice tightened.

Kade smiled faintly.

Tired.

Relieved.

"…You did it," he said.

A pause.

"…You went further."

Kael stepped toward him.

But the space resisted.

Not violently.

Gently.

Like it was separating them.

"…What's happening?" Kael asked.

Kade glanced down at his hand.

It flickered again.

"…I stayed here longer than I should have," he said.

A pause.

"…This place doesn't let things leave unchanged."

The meaning hit instantly.

"…No," Kael said.

Firm.

"…We leave together."

Kade chuckled softly.

"…You still think like that."

A pause.

"…Good."

His gaze lifted.

Meeting Kael's fully.

"…Listen to me."

The tone shifted.

Serious.

Final.

"…You're not like me."

A pause.

"…I tried to control this."

His form flickered again.

More violently this time.

"…You understood it."

Kael clenched his jaw.

"…Then come back with us and teach us."

Silence.

Then.

Kade shook his head slightly.

"…I already did."

That.

Landed.

Because it was true.

Everything.

Every lesson.

Every moment.

Led here.

"…What happens to you?" Kael asked.

Kade didn't answer immediately.

He looked past Kael.

Toward Dravok.

"…I settle my mistake," he said quietly.

A pause.

"…And make sure it doesn't happen again."

Kael's eyes widened slightly.

"…You're not staying here."

Kade smiled again.

Fainter now.

"…Not in the way you think."

Behind them.

Lira staggered forward.

Her body still weak.

But moving.

"…Kael…" she called.

She saw Kade.

Saw him fading.

"…No…" she whispered.

She pushed forward.

Trying to reach them.

Trying to help.

The pressure hit her again.

Not as force.

As reality.

She altered.

Dropping to one knee.

"…I can" she tried.

But she couldn't move further.

Not because she was weak.

Because this.

Was beyond her.

Her eyes shook.

Frustration rising.

"…I understand it now…" she said.

A pause.

"…So why can't I reach you?!"

Kael looked at her.

And for a moment.

He understood.

"…Because this isn't your place yet," he said softly.

Not cruel.

Not dismissive.

True.

Lira's hands clenched.

"…Then I'll make it mine"

"…You will," Kael said.

A pause.

"…But not today."

Silence.

Painful.

Real.

Kade watched that exchange quietly.

Then nodded slightly.

"…Good."

His form flickered again.

More unstable now.

"…You're not alone anymore," he said.

A pause.

"…That's what makes you different."

Kael didn't respond.

Because he couldn't.

Because this.

Was goodbye.

Even if it wasn't supposed to be.

Dravok shifted.

Its presence no longer overwhelming.

Measured.

Controlled.

"…The divergence is complete."

A pause.

"…The anomaly remains."

Kael turned back toward it.

Steady.

Defined.

"…Then what now?" he asked.

Silence.

Then.

"…You leave."

The answer came simply.

"…And carry this forward."

A pause.

"…Until the others arrive."

That.

Was new.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"…Others?"

Dravok did not answer.

But its presence shifted.

Pulling back.

Not retreating.

Allowing.

The space around them began to change.

The endless void.

Fading.

The basin.

Returning.

Reality.

Reforming.

Kade's form flickered violently now.

Almost gone.

"…Don't waste this," he said quietly.

A pause.

"…And don't follow my path."

Kael stepped forward.

One last time.

"…I won't."

Kade smiled.

"…I know."

And then.

He vanished.

Not violently.

Not dramatically.

Just.

Gone.

The space settled.

The pressure disappeared.

Completely.

The basin fell silent.

Heavy.

Empty.

Kael stood alone at the center.

Lira finally reached him.

Breathing hard.

Eyes searching.

"…Where is he…?" she asked.

Kael didn't answer immediately.

Because he didn't know.

Not truly.

"…He's not gone," he said finally.

A pause.

"…But he's not here either."

Lira looked at him.

Then at the space around them.

"…Then we find him," she said.

Kael nodded slowly.

"…Yeah."

Behind them.

The others stirred.

Recovering.

Alive.

Changed.

Everything was different now.

Not just them.

The world.

Because something had shifted.

Not broken.

Not ended.

Moved forward.

And far beyond them.

Something else stirred.

Watching.

Waiting.

Because Kael.

Had become something new.

And the world.

Would answer.
