"You're awake?! How are you feeling?!"
Before the man could continue thinking, Elias walked in through the door with two research assistants. Holding a glass of water, he handed it over with a gentle expression.
"Thank you. As for how I feel... better than ever."
The man had already been thirsty, so the moment he saw the glass, he quickly drank it down. Only after finishing it in one gulp did he feel a little better. Then, sensing the condition of his body, he looked at the familiar person in charge with excitement written all over his face.
Ever since he came back from the battlefield, the thing he regretted most was not dying there. If he had, his wife and daughter would at least have received a substantial compensation payment.
Instead of what had happened before, when he had been asleep in his room and his wife had merely come in at night carrying their daughter, wanting to see him, only for him to wake in shock and nearly shoot them with his pistol.
If that bullet had been just a little more off, it would have claimed two lives.
Even now, he still could not forget that scene. His wife's disbelief and his daughter's crying were burned into his memory.
If he really had done something unforgivable, he felt that even if he died and went to hell, it would never be enough to atone for it.
Fortunately, now... he had finally been given a second new life.
"Can you still remember your earlier memories now?"
"Can you recall some of the details?"
...
"Try harder and think back to your memories from the war."
With question after question, Elias finally got the answers he wanted from the test subject.
"Perfect. Practically flawless. Trust me, after a few more days of observation, once the recovery period is over, you can go home."
"When you leave this time, your family will welcome a brand-new you, one no longer trapped by the damage caused by war."
After handing the diagnostic equipment in his hand to the assistant beside him, Elias smiled and spoke to the man in front of him.
"Thank you. If it weren't for all of you, I probably would've been homeless by now."
After hearing the research lead's words, the man immediately stood up and thanked them with heartfelt gratitude.
After that, Elias left the room.
...
Time passed quickly. In the blink of an eye, half a month had already gone by since the successful development of the brain-control chip.
During that period, Killian spent a huge amount of time purchasing large-scale production lines for Baymax as well as various top-tier high-tech instruments. Every one of them ranked among the best in the world, and after buying them, he had all of them transported to the research island in Miami.
They were now being installed in the underground laboratory beneath it, which had already been excavated down to the fiftieth level below ground.
Killian had already dismissed all the previous construction companies. In their place were the modified Baymax units, their silicone outer skin removed. At this moment, nearly a hundred robots were using various tools in an orderly manner to continue digging downward.
Each robot had its own assigned area and duties, and their efficiency was many times higher than before.
And as more robots were deployed here in the future, the speed of underground construction would only continue to increase. Before long, the Hive stretching thousands of meters underground would be recreated in this world.
"Sir, Miss Maya is requesting to report to you at the company."
As Baymax's notification sounded through Killian's earpiece, Killian finally put aside what he had been doing and took the elevator to the entrance of the laboratory.
By now, the island laboratory had been completely transformed. Not only had iron walls been installed around the island, but hundreds of Blackwatch members in black combat gear were also patrolling back and forth across it.
Killian's personal vehicle then drove toward the outer perimeter of the island under the protection of that massive patrol force, accompanied by an armed escort convoy.
Looking at the top-tier weapons and heavy protection surrounding him, Killian could not help but curl his lips into a smile.
After confirming his cooperation with Ross and after the first Tyrant had entered service, Killian's application for his arms company and the issue of weapon permits for his personal security team had all been approved by Ross without the slightest obstacle.
And after that, Ross seemed genuinely worried about his safety. He had practically arranged everything according to the travel standards of a U.S. Army general.
If Killian had not wanted to keep such a low profile, Ross would even have arranged an armed Humvee for him.
For a while there, Killian had almost been unable to tell who was selling weapons to whom.
Ross had even promised that no matter where Killian encountered danger, as long as he made one phone call, armed helicopters could be dispatched at any time to support him, with even a battalion-level unit available for unconditional rescue.
It was only after that day that Killian finally understood why, in the original story, the military had reacted so strongly after Tony was kidnapped and disappeared. They had searched for months.
It was only because the area was too vast and the terrorists had an inside man in Obadiah that they had failed to find him. Otherwise, with the force the military had brought to bear, they probably really would have turned Afghanistan upside down.
After all, Tony was basically the father of their next generation of advanced weapons.
Only now, Killian had become the same kind of figure. After Ross submitted the Tyrant's combat data to the military's top brass, it did not take long for things to become what they were now.
Whenever he went out, five Humvees escorted him from front and rear, all carrying officially authorized heavy firepower, not to mention Blackwatch itself, which was already an elite force to begin with.
For Blackwatch, firepower was everything. As long as the firepower was sufficient, even Alex could be confronted head-on.
And if a security crisis really did occur, there would still be military armed helicopter support overhead.
Looking at everything around him, Killian felt nothing but satisfaction with his earlier decision to build ties with the military.
...
And so, under the envious gazes of passersby all along the way, Killian's convoy finally arrived beneath the company building in the technology park.
Maya was already waiting at the entrance with a smile on her face.
Before Killian had even gotten out of the car, she had already jogged over attentively, opened the door for him, and smiled at him respectfully.
"Heh, I don't remember ever hiring such a highly educated secretary."
Looking at Maya in front of him, Killian could not help joking after stepping out of the car.
After all, seeing Maya act like this was indeed a rare sight.
"If the boss needs it, I can be a secretary too."
"As long as the boss doesn't fire me."
After hearing Killian's teasing, Maya responded in the same playful manner.
Unfortunately, Maya was not his type, so the relationship between the two of them remained nothing more than a purely professional one between superior and subordinate.
