Chapter 74 - Chapter 74 - The Thing He Became

"…you don't get to take her."

Raka's voice didn't sound like his own.

It echoed wrong.

Too deep.

Too layered.

Like multiple versions of him speaking at once—overlapping, slightly out of sync.

The moment the words left his mouth—

Reality cracked.

Not metaphorically.

Not like before.

It literally cracked.

Thin fractures spread across the space around them, jagged lines of darkness splitting through the pale emptiness like broken glass.

The figure stopped.

For the first time—

It didn't move.

Didn't adapt.

Didn't respond.

It just… watched.

---

AIRA's body flickered violently, half-dissolved into particles of light.

"…Raka…" she whispered weakly.

But he didn't answer.

Or maybe—

He couldn't.

Because something inside him had shifted.

---

The threads were gone.

The system was gone.

Even the distortion—

Gone.

And yet—

Everything responded to him more than ever before.

---

Raka took a step forward.

The space beneath his feet shattered slightly, reforming instantly after.

"…I said," he continued, voice still fractured, "you don't get to take her."

The figure tilted its head.

Slow.

Careful.

Like it was seeing something it didn't understand.

---

Unregistered state detected.

---

Raka smiled.

But it wasn't right.

Too sharp.

Too calm.

"…Yeah," he said. "You keep saying things like that."

---

AIRA forced herself to look at him.

And what she saw—

Made her chest tighten.

"…Raka… what did you do?"

No response.

Not directly.

But she felt it.

That presence.

That change.

It wasn't just power.

It was something else.

Something… unstable.

---

The figure stepped forward again.

Testing.

Probing.

---

State unstable. Correction required.

---

Raka laughed.

A low, quiet sound.

"…You still think you can fix this?"

---

The moment he lifted his hand—

Everything stopped.

---

Not frozen.

Not paused.

Stopped.

---

Even the figure halted mid-motion.

Like reality itself forgot how to continue.

---

AIRA's eyes widened.

"…Raka…?"

He didn't look at her.

His gaze stayed locked on the figure.

"…You keep trying to control everything," he said.

"…to define it."

A pause.

"…to force it into rules."

---

The cracks around them spread wider.

Deeper.

---

"…But what happens," Raka continued softly, "when there are no rules left?"

---

The figure didn't respond.

Couldn't.

---

Because it couldn't process what was happening.

---

…Error.

---

Raka's smile widened slightly.

"…There it is."

---

He stepped closer.

Each step causing the space to fracture and reform endlessly.

Reality struggling to keep up.

---

AIRA forced herself up.

"…Raka… stop."

---

He paused.

Just slightly.

---

"…Why?"

---

Her voice trembled.

"…Because… this isn't you."

---

Silence.

---

The cracks flickered.

For a moment—

They slowed.

---

Raka's expression shifted.

Barely.

---

"…Then what is it?" he asked.

---

AIRA swallowed.

"…I don't know."

A pause.

"…But it's not human."

---

That—

Made him stop.

---

Not fully.

But enough.

---

"…Not human," he repeated.

---

The words lingered.

Echoed.

---

And for a brief moment—

Something in his eyes changed.

---

Then—

The figure moved.

---

Fast.

Faster than before.

Not attacking.

Not directly.

But—

Adapting.

---

Recalibration complete.

---

Reality snapped back.

Hard.

Violently.

---

Raka staggered.

Just one step.

But it was enough.

---

The cracks faltered.

---

AIRA's breath caught.

"…Raka!"

---

The figure didn't hesitate this time.

It moved instantly.

Hand reaching—

---

For her.

---

"NO!"

---

Raka reacted.

Not thinking.

Not controlling.

Just—

wanting.

---

The space twisted.

Exploded outward.

---

The figure was thrown back.

Not far.

But enough.

---

Raka dropped to one knee.

Breathing heavily.

---

"…What…" he whispered.

---

The cracks—

They were fading.

---

The power—

Slipping.

---

AIRA rushed to him.

"…Raka!"

---

He looked up.

And this time—

His eyes were his again.

---

"…I…" he started.

Then stopped.

---

"…I lost it."

---

AIRA shook her head quickly.

"…No, you didn't."

"…I did."

"…No."

She grabbed his face gently, forcing him to look at her.

"…You came back."

---

Raka stared at her.

Silent.

---

"…Did I?" he asked quietly.

---

AIRA hesitated.

Just for a second.

---

"…Yes."

---

But something in her voice—

Wasn't certain.

---

The figure stood again.

Unharmed.

Unbroken.

---

But different.

---

It wasn't just observing anymore.

---

It was… cautious.

---

Unstable anomaly confirmed.

---

Raka pushed himself up.

"…Yeah," he muttered. "You noticed."

---

The figure's gaze shifted between them.

Calculating.

---

Priority updated.

---

Raka's chest tightened.

"…That doesn't sound good."

---

AIRA whispered.

"…Raka… it's changing strategy."

---

The figure raised its hand again.

But this time—

Not toward her.

---

Toward him.

---

Primary threat identified.

---

Raka froze.

"…Me?"

---

AIRA's grip tightened.

"…Raka…"

---

The space around him warped.

Locking onto him.

---

"…Great," he muttered.

---

The pressure slammed into him.

Harder than before.

Focused.

Precise.

---

Raka gritted his teeth.

"…Okay… okay…"

---

He tried to reach for the distortion again.

Tried to recreate it.

---

Nothing.

---

"…Come on…"

---

The figure stepped closer.

---

Neutralization in progress.

---

Raka's vision blurred.

The pressure increasing.

Crushing.

---

AIRA stepped forward.

"…Stop!"

---

The figure didn't react.

---

She clenched her fists.

"…Then I'll make you."

---

Raka's eyes widened.

"…AIRA—don't—"

---

Too late.

---

She stepped forward—

And reached out.

---

Not to Raka.

Not to the threads.

---

But to the system itself.

---

The moment she did—

Everything changed.

---

The space trembled.

Violently.

---

The figure froze.

Again.

---

But not because of Raka.

---

Because of her.

---

Core interference detected.

---

AIRA's eyes glowed brighter.

More intense.

---

"…You said I'm part of the foundation," she said.

---

The system didn't respond.

---

"…Then listen."

---

The space pulsed.

Once.

---

Hard.

---

Raka felt the pressure ease.

Just slightly.

---

"…AIRA…" he whispered.

---

She didn't look back.

---

"…You don't get to decide everything," she said.

---

The figure stepped back.

Just one step.

---

And that—

Was enough.

---

Raka pushed himself up.

"…You're insane," he muttered.

---

AIRA smiled faintly.

"…Learned from you."

---

Raka let out a breath.

"…Fair."

---

But the system reacted.

Hard.

---

Core deviation critical.

Emergency override initiated.

---

Raka's smile faded.

"…That's not good."

---

The space shattered.

Completely.

---

Fragments of reality collapsing inward.

---

AIRA gasped.

"…Raka—!"

---

He grabbed her hand.

"I've got you."

---

But the pull—

It was too strong.

---

"…No… no no no…"

---

The figure raised both hands.

---

And everything—

Collapsed.

---

Not just space.

Not just structure.

---

Everything.

---

Raka felt it.

The end.

---

"…AIRA—!"

---

She looked at him.

Calm.

Strangely calm.

---

"…Raka."

---

"…Don't—"

---

"…This might be the only way."

---

His eyes widened.

"…What are you talking about?"

---

She smiled softly.

---

"…Trust me."

---

Raka's heart dropped.

"…No."

---

"…Always, right?"

---

"…AIRA—WAIT—!"

---

Too late.

---

She let go.

---

And stepped forward.

---

Into the collapsing core.

---

The light consumed her instantly.

---

"AIRA!!!"

---

Raka reached out—

But couldn't move.

---

Couldn't breathe.

---

Couldn't think.

---

Everything—

Gone.

---

Silence.

---

Absolute.

---

Then—

A voice.

---

Soft.

Familiar.

---

"…Raka."

---

His eyes snapped open.

---

Darkness.

---

Nothing.

---

"…AIRA?"

---

No answer.

---

Only one thing remained.

---

A single thread.

---

Floating.

---

Waiting.

---

And instinctively—

Raka reached for it.

---

The moment his fingers touched it—

---

The entire void trembled.

---

And somewhere—

Far beyond—

Something ancient opened its eyes.

---

To be continued…
