Chapter 48 - The plan That Changes Everything

The room felt smaller now.

Not because of space—

But because of what they knew.

No one spoke for a few seconds.

The screens flickered softly.

Lines of data moving like something alive.

Finally—

Emily broke the silence.

"What exactly is this organization?"

The man leaned back slightly.

Thinking.

"They don't have one name," he said.

"They change it. Hide it. Split it into smaller parts."

Daniel crossed his arms.

"So what do people call them?"

The man gave a faint, humorless smile.

"People who know them… don't say their name twice."

That didn't help.

Emily's voice tightened.

"Then tell us what they do."

The man looked at the screen again.

"They collect power," he said simply.

"Information, money, influence—anything that gives control."

Daniel nodded slowly.

"And this drive?"

The man tapped the screen.

"This is a piece of that control."

Emily felt a chill.

"So if we have it…"

The man looked at her.

"They'll do anything to get it back."

Silence.

Because they already knew that.

Noah shifted beside Emily.

"Are they bad people?" he asked quietly.

The man glanced at him.

Then back at the screen.

"Yes," he said.

Simple.

Honest.

Emily pulled Noah closer.

"It's okay," she whispered.

But now—

Even she wasn't sure.

Daniel stepped forward.

"So what's the plan?"

The man looked at him.

"You tell me."

Daniel didn't hesitate.

"We use it."

Emily turned sharply.

"What?"

Daniel met her eyes.

"We don't run from this anymore."

Emily shook her head.

"You don't just 'use' something like that."

Daniel's voice stayed calm.

"If it has power… then it gives us leverage."

The man nodded slightly.

"He's not wrong."

Emily looked between them.

"And then what? We threaten them?"

Daniel took a step closer.

"No. We expose them."

That word—

Changed the entire direction.

The man raised an eyebrow.

"That's not a small move."

Daniel didn't flinch.

"Neither is what they're doing."

Emily's mind raced.

Expose them?

That wasn't just dangerous.

That was war.

"We don't even know who to trust," she said.

Daniel nodded.

"Then we find someone who can't be controlled."

The man let out a small laugh.

"Good luck with that."

Daniel didn't smile.

"There are people," he said.

The man studied him.

"You have someone in mind."

Daniel hesitated.

Then nodded.

"Maybe."

Emily watched him.

"You're not telling me everything," she said.

Daniel exhaled slowly.

"I will."

"When?" she asked.

A pause.

"Soon."

That word again.

Not enough.

But for now—

It had to be.

The man turned back to the screen.

"If you're going this route… you need to understand something."

Daniel looked at him.

"What?"

The man's voice dropped.

"Once you start… there's no going back."

Silence.

Because that was the truth.

Daniel looked at Emily.

Not forcing.

Not pushing.

Just asking—

Without words.

Emily looked down.

At Noah.

At the drive.

At everything they were risking.

Then—

Slowly—

She nodded.

"Okay."

That one word—

Was the decision.

The man sighed.

"Then we need to move fast."

He started typing quickly.

"First—we make copies," he said.

Daniel frowned.

"Copies?"

The man nodded.

"If something happens to this one… you don't lose everything."

Emily swallowed.

"How many?"

The man glanced at her.

"As many as we need."

Daniel nodded.

"Do it."

The screens lit up brighter.

Data transferring.

Duplicating.

Noah watched quietly.

"Is this like a game?" he asked.

Emily smiled faintly.

"No… but we're trying to win."

Noah nodded seriously.

"Then we should be smart."

Daniel looked at him.

"We will be."

Because now—

They weren't just reacting.

They were planning.

And somewhere—

Far from that small room—

Someone else was planning too.

Because the moment they chose to fight back—

They stopped being targets.

And became a threat.

And threats—

Don't get ignored.

They get eliminated.
