Chapter 21 - Crafting Aegis | All Magic

As if in response to his will—

Aaron's surroundings shifted.

The Soul Space reshaped itself around him.

He stood within a vast hall.

At its center—

A long, massive anvil.

Dark-gold.

Ancient.

It radiated a quiet, oppressive weight.

To his right—

Rows of mounted vials and glass tubes.

Some small.

Others large enough to hold a human body.

Surgical instruments lined the walls beneath them—

Blades. Hooks. Fine knives.

And beyond—

Strange machines, silent but waiting.

To his left—

A massive storage section.

Materials stacked in ordered rows.

Bones.

Scales.

Fragments.

Everything Null and his squad had gathered.

Everything he had earned.

The air felt different here.

Heavier.

Sharper.

Like something was watching—

Or waiting.

Ding—

A pair of glasses formed over Aaron's eyes—

Thin. Precise.

They settled against his face, lending him the look of a silent observer… a craftsman.

He moved.

To the left.

A display case rested among the materials.

Inside—

The core.

Dark. Pulsing faintly.

Waiting.

Aaron opened the case.

Carefully.

He took it—

And stepped toward the anvil.

The moment he approached—

Whirrr—

Click.Click.Click—

Whoosh—

The center of the anvil unfolded, its surface splitting open into a hollow chamber.

Aaron hesitated.

Only for a moment.

Then placed the core inside.

Whooom—

The chamber sealed.

Ripples of magic surged outward, spreading across the hall in waves.

The air trembled.

Energy condensed—

Gathering.

Expanding.

The anvil glowed.

Soft blue light pulsed across its surface.

———————————

From the body of the anvil—

Something emerged.

A staff.

But not a normal one.

Its head was… irregular.

A fusion.

Part wrench.

Part gearwork mechanism.

Part hammer.

Industrial.

Precise.

Unfamiliar.

Aaron took it into his hand.

It felt—

Right.

"…A shield," he murmured.

"Something I'll need."

A pause. Thinking back to fun things on earth, thoughts about the future….

"Preferably… holographic."

At once—

His vision shifted.

Materials across the room lit up in faint blue.

Highlighted.

Selectable.

Responsive.

With a thought—

He began assembling.

Oriel Metal.

Black.

Threaded with a soft violet glow.

Three Undead Brass Magic Bones.

It felt… strange.

Knowledge flowed through him.

Precise. Complete.

And yet—

He felt like a stranger in his own body.

Aaron moved.

Without hesitation.

Without doubt.

He selected one of the machines and brought it closer to the anvil.

It resembled an arm-mounted cannon.

Industrial.

Refined.

He inserted one of the bones.

The machine activated—

Whirrr—

It drew the bone inward.

Processing.

Cutting.

Reshaping.

Moments later—

It expelled the result.

Small spheres.

Dozens of them.

Each one intricate—composed of countless fine lines, layered into structure.

They hovered within the machine's chamber.

Waiting.

Aaron didn't pause.

He crouched beside the anvil—

And took the staff into his hand.

——————————

Grand Forge activated.

Heating process initiated.

——————————

The anvil ignited.

Its surface burned bright red.

Heat rolled outward in waves.

The Oriel Metal began to melt—

Slowly at first—

Then completely.

Aaron moved.

Magic flowed into the staff.

He brought it down.

The strike was precise.

Controlled.

The molten metal separated—

Not violently—

But cleanly.

As if guided.

As if it understood.

The liquid metal divided into smaller masses.

Glowing.

Shifting.

Then—

The heat faded.

The anvil cooled.

And the metal responded.

Reshaping.

Compressing.

Aaron watched.

Then acted.

Guiding each piece—

Forging them further.

Refining.

Condensing.

Until—

Each fragment became a small, polished sphere.

Faintly glowing.

Aaron worked in silence.

Careful.

Precise.

Each crude metal piece was fused with a bone sphere—one by one, methodical, controlled.

There were many forms of magic.

Fire, Water, Air,Transportation, Invisibility, Ice, Acid, Speed,

and many many…..more.

Every awakened possessed an affinity.

Most wielded one.

Some—two.

Rare individuals could handle multiple.

Individuals who possess All Magic

Aaron was one of them.

The air shifted.

Whoosh—

It bent around him as he reached inward—

Drawing upon Soul Magic.

And Air.

Two forces.

Different.

Yet—

He forced them together.

Each fused piece reacted.

Glowing—

A faint green hue spread across them as the energies merged.

Unstable at first.

Then—

Aligned.

Slowly—

He assembled them.

Piece by piece.

Structure forming.

Purpose emerging.

The construct was placed onto the anvil.

It glowed blue.

Whoosh—

Magic condensed.

Aaron's focus sharpened.

His mind pressed against the forming shape—

Refining it.

Adjusting.

Perfecting.

Then—

He drew a needle.

A quick motion—

A drop of blood fell onto the construct.

Wrrr—

Hissss—

The structure trembled.

Vibrated.

Then—

Silence.

Aegis gleamed.

Dark.

Layered with thin silver lines running across its structure.

Segmented.

Flexible.

Alive—almost.

Aaron picked it up.

Studied it.

Then—

He lay back.

The spine resting beside him.

The anvil stirred again.

Whirrr—

Like a living thing.

Responsive.

Aware.

Aegis lifted.

Hovering above him.

Its segments shifted—

Sharp protrusions emerging.

Aligning.

Aimed.

Pierce—

Aaron's jaw clenched.

Pain surged through him—

Violent.

All-consuming.

It spread across his body, coursing through nerves and bone alike.

He didn't scream.

But his body trembled.

Aegis embedded itself into his upper back.

Locking in.

Fusing.

It wasn't long—

Only half the length of his back.

But its presence—

Was undeniable.

Click—

The pain faded.

Slowly.

Aaron's eyes opened.

Something had changed.

Not just strength.

Not just control.

It felt like… a new limb.

He shifted slightly—

Testing it.

Feeling it.

Understanding it.

A thought formed.

Protection.

Whoosh—

The air responded instantly.

It gathered around him—

Compressed—

Shaped—

A barrier formed.

Seamless.

Responsive.

His.

Aaron's eyes narrowed slightly.

Control felt… easier.

Smoother.

More natural.

He exhaled.

"…Yeah."

A faint smirk tugged at his lips.

"I don't think Austin's going to be very happy tomorrow…"

A pause.

"…That old man won't be able to hit me anymore."

A quiet chuckle escaped him.

"If someone beats you once—shame on them."

His voice lowered slightly.

"But twice…?"

A small shake of his head.

"Shame on you."

"My prince…"

A voice slipped from the shadows.

"…what exactly are you chuckling about?"

Aaron turned.

Null emerged—rising from his own shadow, silent as ever.

"…Nothing," Aaron replied, a bit too quickly."Really. Nothing."

Null regarded him for a moment.

Unconvinced.

"I'm not so sure…"

A pause.

Then he turned away.

"Regardless. I'll return to work."

And just like that—

He was gone again.
