The Box: Fate
Chapter 17 — The Architect of Malice
The transition from a tactical retreat to a focused hunt was seamless While the heavyweights held the line below the atmosphere at the higher vantage point shifted from the chaos of combat to a cold suffocating pressure It was the feeling of a predator finally nearing its prey
Kyoshiki stood unnervingly still at the edge of the cliff His eyes usually calm and reflective began to glow with a faint rhythmic pulse His skill Spirit Balance was no longer just about maintaining his own center—it was about perceiving the truth of the world He wasn't looking at the shadow anymore he was looking through the fabric of reality itself
The flow of energy is unnatural Kyoshiki whispered his voice cutting through the whistling wind The shadow is just a projection It has no heart of its own The real heartbeat of this nightmare is vibrating from the north
He extended a hand pointing toward a dense blackened grove where the moonlight seemed to die before it could touch the leaves There Beneath those twisted trees That is where the Master is hiding
Below them the earth groaned under the weight of the shadow's fury Sensing that its source had been discovered the entity grew more volatile Its form expanded into a jagged mass of obsidian needles roaring with a sound that shook the very foundation of the hill
Zanaki and Axel Hatanaki did not flinch They were the shield that allowed the others to move
Zanaki moved like a blur of lethal grace Thread of Fate Binding Web! he roared His fingers dancing in the air as golden threads erupted from the earth wrapping around the shadow's massive limbs like burning wires You're not going anywhere you overgrown pile of smoke!
Axel Hatanaki laughed his body radiating a fierce golden aura Let's see if you can handle a real hit when you can't move! He leaped high into the air his muscles bulging as Titan Strike surged through his arm He slammed his fist directly into the shadow's center The impact created a massive shockwave that shattered the nearby stones and pinned the shadow down
We hold it here! Axel shouted back to the group his voice echoing with raw power Go find that coward in the woods and end this!
Kataki led Akira Kuro Murasaki and the rest of the team into the blackened grove The temperature dropped instantly frost blooming on their clothes and armor with every breath In the center of a small dead clearing stood a figure draped in robes that looked like they were stitched together from stolen echoes
This was the Master of the Shadow He didn't have a weapon he simply stood with his back to them watching a floating hourglass filled with black sand that flowed upward instead of down
So the Master spoke His voice sounded like two massive stones grinding together in a deep cavern The sheep have finally found the shepherd
As he turned an overwhelming pressure hit the group It wasn't just fear it was a physical weight Akira and Kuro were instantly forced to their knees the gravity around them becoming ten times stronger as the earth cracked beneath their weight
Stay back! Kataki warned his eyes narrowing to slits He could see the aura clearly—this Boss was on a completely different level than anything they had faced. His presence alone was an act of violence
The Master raised a hand and the air itself seemed to scream in protest You struggle to survive a mere shadow he said coldly his empty white eyes fixing on them Yet you dare to stand before the light that cast it? I am the Architect of your end
With a simple flick of his wrist a wave of pure dark energy erupted toward them Murasaki tried to counter with Shadow Violet but her magic was instantly swallowed disappearing like a candle flame in a hurricane It was clear to everyone present: they weren't just fighting a monster anymore They were fighting the very source of the darkness in this world
The real battle had finally begun
