Chapter 51 — The First Avenger and the Hidden City
The hum of Archea Industries' laboratories filled the air as Von-Ra adjusted a set of crystal-lattice turbine plates. Howard Stark leaned over the schematics, frowning.
"Von… you're pushing physics beyond anything Earth has ever seen," Howard muttered.
Von-Ra gave a small smile.
"Stark, that's the point. Why limit innovation when the planet's survival depends on it?"
Before Howard could respond, a familiar voice called through the intercom:
"Von, Howard, you two here? We need your assistance."
It was Peggy Carter.
"What's the situation?" Von-Ra asked, stepping aside as Howard connected the comm link.
"Steve Rogers… he's requesting an upgrade for his suit," Peggy explained. "We need your engineering insight, Von. And Howard, I trust you'll oversee—your approval counts more than anyone's."
Von-Ra nodded.
"Understood. Prepare the schematics and send them to me. But Peggy… I must warn you: the process might exceed contemporary Earth methods."
Peggy raised an eyebrow, a knowing smile crossing her face.
"I expected nothing less from you, Von. But don't worry—Steve will be impressed."
Flashback: 1941 — The Birth of the Super Soldier
The laboratory was dimly lit, a cacophony of electrical hums, chemical apparatus, and mechanical whirring.
Peggy Carter stood across the table from Dr. Abraham Erskine, the elderly scientist overseeing the Super Soldier Serum. Howard Stark assisted with mechanical interfaces, calibrating the Vita-ray chambers.
"Doctor Erskine, are we certain the serum is stable?" Howard asked, running a hand across the polished metallic console.
"Stark, this serum is perfection… but one mistake could destroy him. Or worse," Erskine replied, his voice trembling.
Steve Rogers, frail but determined, sat on the examining chair, his eyes glinting with resolve. Bucky Barnes stood nearby, fists clenched.
"Don't worry, Steve," Bucky whispered, "I've got your back."
Peggy watched silently, her heart racing.
"Erskine, I want to be certain he survives," she said softly.
The doctor nodded solemnly.
"He will. But this is more than science. It's a test of heart, of spirit. That is what makes a super soldier."
Lightning arcs surged through the Vita-ray chamber. Steve screamed as energy coursed through his body, his muscles and bones expanding, his frail frame transforming into the perfect specimen of human potential.
The room fell silent. Steve Rogers rose unsteadily, testing his strength. Bucky grinned.
"Well… I guess I'll have to keep up now," he said.
Peggy exhaled, a mixture of relief and awe.
"Captain America… you're born."
Dr. Erskine's face lit up with pride, but his joy was fleeting. Nazi agents had infiltrated the city. In the chaos, Erskine was shot, but Von-Ra manages to intercept it
Present Day — Seeking Von-Ra's Expertise
The scene shifted seamlessly to the present, inside the sleek laboratories of Archea Industries. Steve Rogers stood before Von-Ra, examining a prototype of his upgraded vibranium suit. Bucky and Peggy observed silently, trust mingled with curiosity.
"Von… if anyone can optimize this, it's you," Howard said, arms crossed.
Steve's tone was earnest:
"I need more flexibility, lighter weight, and advanced energy absorption. We can't rely on brute strength alone anymore."
Von-Ra nodded, examining the schematics.
"I can enhance the alloy structure and integrate energy conduits derived from experimental Kryptonian metallurgy. But… some of these processes are… beyond contemporary Earth knowledge."
Howard raised an eyebrow, suspicion flickering.
"Von… you're doing things even I can't explain. And I've studied everything from energy mechanics to vibranium metallurgy. What exactly are you doing down there?"
Von-Ra smiled faintly.
"Then it's time you see the truth."
He led Howard, Peggy, and Steve through a hidden elevator into the underground city, a metropolis entirely constructed in secret beneath Hell's Kitchen. Lights shimmered across crystalline towers, training arenas, and laboratories. Hybrid Kryptonians in varying stages of growth trained under Ruby's supervision, while holographic displays of interstellar charts projected across the domed ceiling.
"This… all of this?" Howard whispered, awe-struck.
Von-Ra's voice was calm but commanding.
"Everything you've seen above ground is only a fraction. Here, we develop the children, technologies, and strategies that will protect Earth. My processes… while alien, follow the principles of physics. But at scales and efficiencies never before seen on Earth."
Peggy's eyes narrowed, but respect tinged her expression.
"You've created an entire civilization beneath our feet… and I didn't even know."
"Howard did," Von-Ra replied. "And he keeps my secret because he understands the necessity. Earth needs the foundation before it can handle the full weight of what's coming."
Steve Rogers stepped forward, examining the children's training in flight and combat.
"So… this is why you're so far ahead in technology. And this… all of it, could help us with the war?"
Von-Ra nodded.
"Every innovation above and below ground strengthens Earth's defenses. Radar networks, communication arrays, energy absorption training—all of it. The war is only the beginning. Our enemies are not just on this planet."
Howard shook his head, still incredulous.
"I knew you were exceptional, Von… but this? This is… beyond anything I imagined. I've never seen metallurgy, physics, or biology applied with such precision and vision. And you've done it alone… almost."
Von-Ra's eyes glimmered.
"Not alone. Ruby, Koryn, and I work together. But yes… Earth will never suspect the source of its silent protector."
Peggy crossed her arms, nodding.
"Well… you've earned my trust. But I'll be watching. Always."
Von-Ra smiled faintly.
"And I would expect nothing less."
