Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

"Phew..."

Gavo let out a deep breath, closed her eyes, and then dropped the gun in her hand.

Seeing that, Griffin frowned so hard he could probably crush flies between his brows.

What was this little brat trying to do?

Just as the scum before her thought he had escaped death, he heard Gavo's voice, hoarse from rage, say:

"Other than the three men he identified, let everyone else go."

The Tearblood guard beside them turned to look at Griffin. After seeing his slight nod, the man stepped forward and untied the scavengers.

"Thank you so much..."

"I'll never forget this kindness..."

After throwing out a few hurried words of gratitude, those scavengers immediately fled, afraid they might get dragged back if they stayed any longer.

The four remaining men desperately begged for mercy, wriggling their way to Gavo's feet like worms and frantically kissing her boots, which were stained with filth, blood, and mud.

But what answered them was only the pair of eyes Gavo opened once more, now blood-red from overwhelming fury.

In the next moment, Gavo lunged at one of them like a beast.

The sickening sound of bones breaking, the heart-rending screams, the wet tearing of flesh like cloth being ripped apart... all of it blended together into a symphony from hell.

Spurts of blood, shattered teeth, torn flesh, ruined skin... all the things flying into the air painted a horrifying picture.

And as the audience of that symphony and the viewers of that picture, even the Tearblood members who were long used to death and slaughter could not help breaking into cold sweat.

A trace of admiration flashed through Griffin's unblinking eyes, while sorrow showed faintly beneath her adoptive father's closed eyelids.

By the time this exhibition of endless agony came to an end, Gavo was drenched in blood.

She casually flicked her hand and tossed half a tongue from her left hand onto the ground, then crushed it beneath her boot.

Gavo had not killed them.

She had only torn out their tongues, crushed the joints in their limbs, and snapped their spines.

She wanted these scum to feel her adoptive father's pain... if they managed to survive.

"Heh..."

Gavo looked at the miserable state of those four bastards, then at her own bloodstained hands.

At once, a flood of endorphins and dopamine burst from her cerebral cortex.

A pleasure that struck at the soul swept through her entire body, so intense that even her psychic power began to ripple.

[Only the suffering of the flesh can bring the sublimation of the soul. Achievement completed: Interrogator.]

[Talent acquired: Pain Harvest. You can draw power to strengthen your psychic abilities from the screams of souls you personally torment.]

The moment the system message appeared, the overheated Gavo immediately calmed down.

Looking at this talent, which clearly carried something dark and twisted, unease rose in her heart.

This talent seemed to be encouraging her to torture others.

"No. I'm supposed to become a Space Marine... and even if that fails, I could still become a Sister. I absolutely can't let a damned talent like this drag me off course."

This talent was indeed incredibly powerful. It meant her psychic ability could now continue growing just like her physical strength.

But Gavo had principles.

She had tortured those four just now because they had harmed the adoptive father she loved most and because they had trampled all over her deepest line.

She was definitely not some lunatic who got excited and raised a flag the moment she saw blood...

"Well, little one, how do you like my gift?"

Griffin's voice pulled Gavo back from the slight trembling running through her limbs from excitement.

She still did not like this big bastard who had tortured her before, but she still gave a small nod.

"Thank you..."

Then she looked toward her adoptive father and saw him holding the Aquila badge in both hands, praying devoutly.

Without needing to guess, Gavo knew this kind man was definitely praying for the God-Emperor to forgive her sins.

She did not believe she had sinned, but she still knelt beside him and prayed with him.

...

When Griffin passed on the news that the Wild Dog Gang had colluded with the Croc-Men in an attempt to wipe out the Weepers, the atmosphere across the entire underhive instantly turned grim.

Previously scattered strike teams began gathering together. Mixed with ordinary gang members, they formed warbands of more than a hundred men.

And perhaps to make Gavo feel more like one of them, after Griffin became the commander of the First Warband, he allowed her to bring in a few people she trusted to help with her logistics work.

Mir and the others were very satisfied with the arrangement.

After all, the Tearblood Gang and the Wild Dog Gang were definitely going to go to war. Hiding somewhere else would not make them any safer.

It was better to join the warband as logistics helpers. Not only would they not have to worry about food and drink, but it was also safer.

And so, the members of the Children's Gang happily got themselves official positions within the Tearblood Gang.

Aside from that, her adoptive father also insisted on staying by Gavo's side at all times.

He worried that Gavo would sink deeper and deeper into the gang's bloodshed, so even if it meant facing storms of bullets, he still insisted on staying close to her.

And in a gang war sweeping across two major underhive districts, the warband truly was safer than almost anywhere else.

So during battle, Gavo brought along her adoptive father's cart. He handled loading drum magazines and handing out medicine, while Gavo delivered the loaded drums and prepared medicine to the Tearblood gunners.

Father and daughter worked together in perfect harmony, making a major contribution to the First Warband's advance during the Tearblood Gang's war against the Wild Dog Gang.

Gavo in particular, thanks to her natural talent for picking through trash, gradually built up a small armory and thus earned the underworld nickname Infinite Gunworks.

And outside of battle, Gavo never let up on her training.

After successfully breaking through her limit, Infinite Growth's previously weakened enhancement effect on her physical ability returned to normal.

And so Gavo's strength continued to increase through both combat and daily training.

...

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Gavo wandered blankly through a hazy sea of mist.

She tried to escape it, only to realize she had already lost her sense of direction.

After aimlessly roaming for a long time, she noticed a faint light in the distance.

As though she had found a lifeline, she immediately ran toward it.

The stronger the light grew, the thinner the surrounding mist became.

And when she followed it all the way out of the fog and reached the end, a horrifying scene appeared before her.

Under Gavo's trembling gaze, she saw that beneath her feet there was no flat ground at all.

It was a mass of broken corpses.

She panicked and looked around, only to find that everything as far as she could see was drenched in shocking crimson.

She wanted to clutch her head and calm herself, but when she raised her hands, she discovered that two bloodstained longswords had been driven through them.

And in the reflection on the blades, she saw her own face.

A face twisted into a smile.

Endless blood poured from the mountain of corpses beneath her feet, splitting into eight scarlet paths that gathered into a blasphemous symbol overflowing with profane power...
