Volume 2 — Chapter 19
The Fury of Seraphine
The battlefield had gone quiet.
The kind of quiet that only appears after something world-shaking has ended.
The shattered plains stretched endlessly beneath a dim sky. Massive cracks tore through the ground like scars across the land. Mountains in the distance had partially collapsed from the shockwaves of the battle.
Fragments of energy from the destroyed Creator's Descendant still drifted slowly through the air before fading into nothingness.
And at the center of the battlefield—
Icarus Grimm lay motionless.
His body rested on the broken ground where the final clash had taken place.
The wound through his chest had not healed.
Void energy still leaked slowly from it like fading smoke.
The weapon that had appeared beside him—Abyssal Devourer—rested silently near his hand.
Dark patterns moved slowly along its surface like living shadows.
But its master did not move.
Above the battlefield—
Seraphine stared down at him.
For a moment she did not react.
Her mind refused to accept what she was seeing.
"…No."
Her voice came out quietly.
Then again.
"…No."
She descended toward the ground rapidly.
The wind screamed past her as she fell from the sky.
She landed beside Icarus moments later.
Dust spread around her feet.
Her eyes immediately searched his body.
The wound.
The fading energy.
The stillness.
Her hands trembled slightly as she knelt beside him.
"Icarus…"
There was no response.
She shook his shoulder lightly.
"…Wake up."
Nothing.
Nexus's voice echoed faintly from the Void network that still surrounded Icarus.
[Host vital activity: minimal.]
Seraphine froze.
"…Minimal?"
She leaned closer.
"Icarus!"
Still nothing.
The battlefield wind moved slowly through the ruined plains.
Seraphine's breathing became heavier.
Her hands clenched into fists.
"…You idiot."
Her voice shook.
"You told me not to interfere."
Her head lowered slightly.
"…So I didn't."
Silence filled the air again.
Then—
Something changed.
Far away across the horizon—
Movement appeared.
Seraphine slowly lifted her head.
Dozens of figures began appearing along the distant ridges of the battlefield.
Then hundreds.
Then thousands.
Energy signatures filled the air.
Heaven.
Hell.
And other factions that had been waiting outside the battlefield.
They had returned.
High above the battlefield, several powerful figures hovered in the sky.
They had been watching the fight from a safe distance.
Gods.
Devils.
Commanders from powerful factions.
They had waited patiently for the result.
Now they were finally moving in.
One of the devils looked down at the battlefield with a satisfied grin.
"Well."
"That worked."
Another god nodded calmly.
"The Creator's Descendant fulfilled its purpose."
A third figure spoke.
"The Void ruler is no longer a threat."
Their eyes moved toward the battlefield below.
Toward the motionless body lying beside Seraphine.
One of the devils laughed softly.
"I expected more from him."
Another god replied calmly.
"He defeated the Descendant."
The devil shrugged.
"And died doing it."
A different devil leaned forward slightly.
"…But look."
Their attention shifted to Seraphine.
She was still kneeling beside Icarus.
Her head lowered.
Her silver hair covered her face.
One of the gods spoke quietly.
"Remove her."
"Secure the weapon."
Another god nodded.
"Agreed."
Several powerful figures began descending toward the battlefield.
Seraphine slowly stood up.
Her back was still facing the approaching army.
Behind her, the sky filled with powerful energy signatures as the gods and devils descended.
Thousands of soldiers followed behind them.
An entire army had arrived.
But Seraphine didn't turn around.
Her gaze remained fixed on Icarus's body.
Her fists trembled slightly.
"…You said something earlier."
Her voice was barely audible.
"You said this war wasn't interesting."
The wind moved across the battlefield.
Dust drifted through the air.
Seraphine's head slowly lifted.
"…You don't get to die before it ends."
Behind her, the approaching gods stopped moving.
Something felt wrong.
A strange pressure began spreading across the battlefield.
One of the devils frowned slightly.
"…Do you feel that?"
The air suddenly became heavier.
Seraphine slowly turned around.
Her eyes were no longer calm.
They burned with cold fury.
Silver light spread across her pupils.
Energy erupted around her body like a rising storm.
The ground beneath her feet began cracking.
Nexus spoke again through the fading connection to Icarus.
[Warning: Unstable energy surge detected.]
[Unknown ability awakening.]
Seraphine's voice came out low.
"…You all watched."
Her gaze moved across the approaching gods and devils.
"…You used him."
Her power surged again.
The sky above the battlefield darkened slightly.
Lightning flashed through the clouds.
One of the gods frowned.
"…What is she doing?"
Another devil narrowed his eyes.
"…Something dangerous."
Seraphine slowly reached down.
Her hand closed around the weapon lying beside Icarus.
Abyssal Devourer.
The weapon reacted instantly.
Dark energy spread across its surface.
The patterns along the blade began glowing faintly.
The weapon had recognized its wielder.
Even if she wasn't its true master.
Seraphine lifted the weapon slowly.
Her gaze returned to the army before her.
Thousands of soldiers.
Gods.
Devils.
Commanders.
All staring at her.
She spoke quietly.
"…You came here to finish the job."
Her wings of light erupted behind her suddenly.
But they were no longer gentle or radiant.
They looked sharp.
Violent.
Almost like blades made from pure energy.
Seraphine's voice turned colder.
"…Then come."
The ground exploded beneath her feet.
In a single instant—
She vanished.
And the battlefield erupted into chaos once again.
