Chapter 29 - THE BREAKING POINT

The clearing fell into stunned silence.

One wolf kneeling could be ignored.

Two wolves could be punished.

But now—

Dozens of wolves behind Varkos were lowering their heads.

The submission spread like a ripple through the massive army.

Growls of confusion echoed through the crowd.

Some wolves tried to resist the pull.

Others fought the instinct clawing at their chest.

But many simply… bowed.

Marcus stared wide-eyed.

"…oh wow."

Rowan slowly nodded.

"This is bad."

Marcus blinked.

"Bad?"

Rowan gestured toward Varkos.

"For him."

In the center of the clearing, the giant Alpha stood frozen.

His golden eyes burned with disbelief as he watched the wolves behind him lowering themselves to the ground.

One by one.

Some hesitantly.

Others instantly.

But the result was the same.

Submission.

Not to him.

To her.

Varkos's massive chest rose and fell slowly.

The air around him grew heavy with rage.

Aria stood across from him, her silver fur glowing softly beneath the moonlight.

She could feel the shift happening.

The pull of loyalty moving through the army of wolves.

Her wolf lifted her head proudly.

They feel it.

"I know."

Varkos suddenly roared.

The sound exploded across the clearing like thunder.

The wolves behind him instantly froze.

Some lifted their heads again in fear.

Others remained lowered.

The conflict inside the army was now visible.

Two forces pulling them apart.

Alpha loyalty.

And Luna command.

Varkos turned slowly toward Aria.

His golden eyes burned brighter than ever.

What have you done?

Aria's wolf stepped forward calmly.

I gave them a choice.

The giant Alpha snarled.

They already had one.

Did they?

That question echoed through the mind-link like a challenge.

The watching wolves stirred uneasily.

Varkos's massive body trembled slightly with anger.

His voice dropped lower.

Darker.

They belong to me.

Aria's silver eyes flashed.

No wolf belongs to anyone.

The statement spread through the clearing.

It carried something powerful.

Something that struck deep into every wolf present.

Marcus whispered quietly,

"…that line was cold."

Rowan nodded.

"Very cold."

Varkos's patience snapped.

The giant Alpha lunged again.

Faster than before.

His massive body crashed into Aria with explosive force.

The two wolves slammed into the ground, claws tearing at each other.

This time the fight was vicious.

No testing.

No hesitation.

Varkos's jaws snapped toward her throat.

Aria twisted away just in time, her claws raking across his chest.

Blood splattered across the dirt.

The wolves watching the fight began growling again.

The tension had reached its breaking point.

Two leaders battling for control.

Two powers clashing in the center of the clearing.

Varkos slammed his massive paw into Aria's side.

She skidded across the ground, barely managing to stay on her feet.

But she didn't fall.

Her silver eyes burned brighter.

She lunged again.

Her claws slashed across his ribs.

Varkos roared in pain.

The fight continued.

Back and forth.

Blow after blow.

Both wolves now covered in blood.

Marcus grabbed his head.

"I can't watch this!"

Rowan didn't look away.

"You have to."

Even Kael stood completely still now.

His entire focus locked onto the battle.

Alder watched silently beside him.

His silver eyes never blinking.

In the clearing, Aria and Varkos separated again.

Both wolves breathing heavily.

Both injured.

The dirt beneath them was stained dark with blood.

Varkos lowered his massive head.

His voice echoed through the mind-link again.

You're stronger than any Luna I've ever seen.

Aria's wolf growled softly.

Good.

The giant Alpha's remaining golden eye burned.

But you still can't beat me.

Without warning—

He charged again.

But this time his attack was different.

Faster.

More brutal.

His massive body slammed into Aria.

Before she could react, his jaws closed around her neck.

Gasps exploded across the clearing.

Marcus shouted,

"ARIA!"

Varkos lifted her slightly off the ground.

His fangs pressed dangerously against her throat.

One bite.

That was all it would take.

The wolves around them went silent.

Even the wind seemed to stop.

Aria's wolf struggled beneath him.

Her claws slashed across his chest again.

But this time Varkos didn't release her.

His voice echoed quietly through the mind-link.

This ends now.

Aria's vision blurred slightly.

Her chest tightened as the pressure around her throat increased.

Her wolf growled weakly.

But then—

Something inside her snapped.

Not fear.

Not pain.

Something deeper.

Ancient.

Her silver eyes suddenly flared with blinding light.

A powerful wave of energy exploded outward from her body.

The ground cracked beneath them.

Varkos was thrown backward violently.

His massive body slammed into the dirt several feet away.

The watching wolves stumbled back in shock.

A blast of silver energy rippled through the clearing like a shockwave.

Marcus stared in disbelief.

"…what the hell was that?"

Rowan whispered,

"I think…"

But he couldn't finish the sentence.

In the center of the clearing—

Aria slowly stood.

Her silver fur now glowing brighter than ever.

The strange power surrounding her had grown stronger.

Heavier.

Older.

The wolves surrounding her began lowering themselves again.

But this time—

Almost all of them.

Varkos struggled back to his feet.

His golden eye wide with shock.

For the first time since the battle began—

The giant Alpha looked afraid.

And Aria's voice echoed through the mind-link again.

Stronger than ever before.

Submit.

The command shook the entire clearing.

Hundreds of wolves immediately dropped to their knees.

Only one wolf remained standing.

Varkos.

His chest heaving.

His golden eye locked onto her.

The moment stretched into silence.

Then Varkos slowly took one step forward.

And growled.

Never. 🐺
