Chapter 62 - POWER AGAINST POWER

The explosion didn't fade.

It lingered.

Like the air itself had been torn open—and didn't know how to close again.

Wind spiraled violently around them.

Dust.

Leaves.

Energy.

Everything pulled toward the center—

Toward them.

Aria and Darius.

Locked.

Unmoving.

Unyielding.

Kael hit the ground hard several feet away, sliding before forcing himself up instantly.

"Aria!"

But he couldn't reach her.

Not yet.

The space around her—

Was unstable.

Cracked.

Like stepping into it would mean stepping into something unknown.

Rowan groaned, pushing himself up.

"…what the hell was that?"

Alder's eyes were fixed on the center.

Unblinking.

"Resonance."

Marcus blinked from the ground.

"…that doesn't sound safe."

"It isn't."

At the center—

Aria's eyes burned silver.

Brighter than before.

Wild—

But not uncontrolled.

Focused.

Her hand was locked against Darius's.

Not holding.

Not gripping.

Clashing.

Their power pressed against each other—

Colliding.

Testing.

Darius didn't move.

Didn't flinch.

But his smile—

Was gone.

Replaced by something else.

Something sharper.

"…there you are."

Aria's breath came out steady.

Despite everything.

Despite the pressure trying to crush her from the inside out.

"…stay away from me."

Darius tilted his head slightly.

"And miss this?"

A pulse of energy surged between them again.

Stronger.

More violent.

The ground beneath their feet cracked deeper.

Spreading outward like fractures in glass.

Kael took a step forward—

And was forced back again.

Like an invisible wall had formed.

His jaw clenched.

"Move."

But the air didn't listen.

Nothing did.

Because this—

Wasn't his fight.

Not right now.

Inside the clash—

Aria felt it.

That connection again.

Not just power.

Not just force.

Something deeper.

Something familiar.

And she hated it.

"…stop it."

Darius's voice dropped slightly.

"Why?"

Her grip tightened.

"Because I'm not like you."

His eyes darkened.

"Then why do you feel the same?"

Silence—

For half a second.

And that was enough.

The energy surged again.

Reacting.

Answering.

Aria's breath hitched.

Because he was right about one thing—

It did feel familiar.

Not comfortable.

Not safe.

But known.

And that scared her more than anything.

Outside the clash—

Rowan tried again to step closer.

"Kael, we need to break this—"

Alder stopped him with a hand.

"No."

Rowan frowned.

"No?"

Alder's voice was calm—

But firm.

"If you interfere now…"

A pause.

"You may kill her."

That shut everything down instantly.

Marcus whispered,

"…okay, so we definitely don't touch anything."

Lena nodded.

"Then what do we do?"

Alder didn't look away.

"We watch."

Back at the center—

Darius leaned slightly closer.

Not forced.

Not pushed.

Like the energy didn't affect him at all.

"Do you feel it now?"

Aria's voice came through clenched teeth.

"…feel what?"

His eyes sharpened.

"That you're holding back."

Her eyes flared brighter.

"I'm not—"

"You are."

The word cut through her.

Clean.

Precise.

Because deep down—

She knew.

She wasn't using everything.

Not like she had before.

Not like when she lost control.

Not like when she forced hundreds to kneel.

And that—

That was the difference.

Darius smiled faintly.

"There it is."

Another surge.

Stronger this time.

The ground cracked wider.

The air split with a sharp, ringing sound.

Kael's fists clenched.

"Aria, don't let him push you."

Her voice came out strained.

"I'm not—"

Darius cut in.

"You are."

He leaned closer again.

Lowering his voice.

"You're afraid of what happens if you don't."

Silence.

Her breath faltered.

Just slightly.

And the energy—

Shifted.

That tiny hesitation—

Was enough.

Darius's power pushed forward.

Not violently.

Not explosively.

But steadily.

Overwhelming.

Aria's feet slid back slightly.

Her grip tightening.

"No—"

He watched her carefully.

"You don't trust yourself."

Her eyes snapped to his.

"I don't trust you."

He smiled.

"That's not what I said."

Another push.

Stronger.

Closer.

The distance between them shrinking.

The pressure building.

Kael stepped forward again—

Only to be forced back harder this time.

The invisible barrier pulsed.

Violently.

Keeping everyone out.

Rowan cursed.

"This is bad."

Alder didn't respond.

Because he knew—

This wasn't just bad.

This was critical.

Back in the center—

Aria's breathing grew uneven.

Her strength wavering.

Not gone—

But unstable.

Darius felt it instantly.

And pressed harder.

"You're not meant to hold back."

Her voice shook.

"I'm not like you."

His answer came immediately.

"No."

A pause.

"You're worse."

The words hit.

Hard.

And something inside her—

Snapped.

Not control.

Not sanity.

Something else.

Something deeper.

Her eyes flared—

Silver turning almost white.

The energy exploded outward again.

This time—

Not chaotic.

Focused.

Sharp.

Darius's smile faded completely.

Because now—

She wasn't resisting.

She wasn't holding back.

She was meeting him.

Fully.

And that—

That changed everything.

The ground beneath them shattered further.

Cracks racing outward.

The air screamed with pressure.

And for the first time—

Darius was pushed back.

Just a step.

But it was enough.

Rowan's eyes widened.

"…she moved him."

Marcus whispered,

"…she moved him."

Kael didn't speak.

His eyes locked on her.

Because this—

This was new.

Aria stood her ground.

Breathing hard.

Eyes blazing.

"You don't get to define me."

Her voice carried.

Clear.

Sharp.

Final.

Darius straightened slowly.

Not upset.

Not angry.

But—

Interested.

Very interested.

"There it is."

A pause.

His voice lowered.

"That's what I came for."

The energy between them surged again—

But this time—

It wasn't one-sided.

It wasn't him pushing.

Or her resisting.

It was equal.

Balanced.

Dangerous.

Alder's expression darkened.

"…they've reached equilibrium."

Rowan frowned.

"That's bad?"

Alder didn't look away.

"It means neither of them is stronger."

Marcus blinked.

"…so what happens now?"

Alder's answer came quietly.

"They break each other."

Silence.

Heavy.

Terrifying.

At the center—

Darius tilted his head slightly.

Studying her.

"You're learning fast."

Aria didn't respond.

Didn't relax.

Didn't back down.

Her voice came out low.

Cold.

"Leave."

Darius smiled again.

Slow.

Satisfied.

"Not yet."

Another pulse of energy surged.

Stronger than before.

And this time—

It didn't just stay between them.

It spread.

Outward.

Across the ground.

Through the air.

Touching everything.

Everyone.

Kael felt it.

Rowan felt it.

Even Marcus felt it.

That pressure.

That weight.

That power.

And they all realized the same thing—

This wasn't contained anymore.

This wasn't just between Aria and Darius.

It was expanding.

Growing.

Becoming something bigger than both of them.

Alder's voice dropped.

"…this is no longer a clash."

Rowan frowned.

"Then what is it?"

Alder's eyes stayed locked on the center.

"…a war."

And at the center of it—

Aria and Darius stood—

Not as Luna and enemy.

But as something else entirely.

Something far more dangerous.

Because now—

They weren't just fighting.

They were matching each other.

And neither of them—

Was willing to lose.
