Chapter 64 - The Deciding Strike

The message didn't disappear.

Critical Condition Triggered: Next Strike May Decide Outcome

No reset.

No second phase.

No hidden condition.

One strike.

That was all it would take.

Alex stood still, breathing slow and heavy. Every part of his body screamed at him to stop. His shoulder burned where the blade had cut deep. His arms felt heavier than ever. His vision flickered at the edges.

But his mind—Clear.

Sharper than it had ever been.

Across from him, the man straightened slightly. The blood running down his side hadn't slowed, yet his expression hadn't changed.

Still calm.

Still smiling.

But now—There was something else.

Focus.

"…Looks like we're at the end," he said quietly.

Alex didn't answer.

Because words didn't matter anymore.

The system pulsed once—Then went silent.

No more guidance.

No more warnings.

Just them.

The world around them felt distant now.

Faded.

Even Kael and Bren—Gone from his awareness.

There was only one thing left.

The man in front of him.

Alex adjusted his grip.

Not tighter.

Not looser.

Just… right.

The man mirrored him.

For the first time—They stood completely still.

No movement.

No pressure.

Just waiting.

Seconds passed.

Or maybe longer.

Time didn't feel real anymore.

Then—They moved.

At the same time.

No hesitation.

No delay.

Perfect synchronization.

Their blades cut through the air—A single line—A single moment—And collided.

The impact didn't explode.

Didn't shatter the ground.

It was quiet.

Too quiet.

Like everything had been compressed into that one instant.

A sharp sound—Metal sliding against metal—Then—They passed each other.

One step.

Two.

And stopped.

Silence.

The world held its breath.

Alex stood still.

His blade lowered slightly.

He didn't turn.

Didn't move.

Because he already knew.

Behind him—A drop of blood hit the ground.

Then another.

The man let out a soft breath.

"…That was…" he started.

A small pause.

"…perfect."

A crack formed in his voice.

Not from pain.

From something else.

Respect.

"…You broke it."

Alex closed his eyes briefly.

"…Yeah."

Because that's what this had been.

Not a fight.

A pattern.

And he had broken it.

A sharp sound echoed—The man's blade slipped from his hand.

Fell.

Hit the ground.

Then—His body followed.

Slow.

Controlled.

Until he dropped to one knee.

Still facing forward.

Still smiling.

"…Guess…" he exhaled softly,

"…you're the one who advances."

The system reactivated instantly.

Condition Fulfilled

Alex didn't move.

Because something—Still felt off.

"…What's your name?" Alex asked quietly.

A small pause.

Then—

"…Riven."

Alex nodded once.

"…You were strong."

Riven chuckled weakly.

"…Yeah. I know."

A final breath.

"…Don't waste it."

Then—Silence.

The light came next.

Riven's body cracked—Like the construct before—But slower.

More… human.

The fragments of light drifted upward—Then vanished.

Gone.

Just like that.

The pressure disappeared completely.

The world stabilized.

For a moment.

Then—The system pulsed violently.

Candidate Eliminated

Remaining Candidates: 3

Alex exhaled slowly.

But it didn't feel like victory.

Not really.

Because this time—It wasn't just a test.

It was a person.

Kael's voice broke the silence.

"…Alex…"

Alex didn't turn.

"…Yeah."

Bren walked closer, looking at the spot where Riven had fallen.

"…So that's how this ends for them…"

Alex finally turned.

"…Yeah."

Kael clenched his fists slightly.

"…Then we finish it."

Not a question.

A decision.

Alex nodded once.

Because now—There was no going back.

The system pulsed again.

Next Fragment Location Updated

A new direction appeared.

Farther.

Deeper.

And more unstable than before.

Alex looked toward it.

"…We move."

Because stopping—Was no longer an option.

As they began walking—A new message appeared silently—

Remaining Candidates Have Formed an Alliance.
