Chapter 23 - “The Interrupted Sacrifice”

"So this means you don't know anything about yourself?"

"Yes, Maharaj."

"No problem. Now you are under my protection, and from now on, you will work for your king. Understood?"

"Yes."

"Rest for now."

Saying this, the demon Nalish leaves.

In Nalish Lok, all the citizens are talking only about the princess. Some praise her bravery, while others admire her beauty.

Meanwhile, the demon guru meets Nalish and informs him that the Prakash Punj is with Prince Susim of Tuluv Lok.

The demon guru says,

"Maharaj, our spies have found that the Prakash Punj is within the prince of Tuluv Lok. Somehow, we must bring him to Nalish Lok and perform a ritual sacrifice with his consent."

Nalish replies,

"But why would he come here? And now we cannot even attack him."

The guru says,

"Not every war is won by strength—some are won by deception."

Nalish asks, "What do you mean?"

The guru explains,

"The girl who is currently in your palace—the one whose beauty and bravery have astonished all demons—you can use her to achieve your goal."

Nalish says,

"Speak clearly, Guru."

The guru continues,

"If that girl—what is her name? Yes, Sanjh—if you send her to Prince Susim, and she wins his trust with love and brings him here, won't he come?"

Nalish responds,

"We never thought of this. Perhaps even the demon gods want to help us. You are right, Guru. We must prepare her for this task."

Nalish then goes to Princess Ratri's chamber, where she is trying to remember her past but fails.

"Sanjh," Nalish calls.

"Maharaj! Greetings," she says.

"We have come to discuss something important. We need the Prakash Punj to please our demon god. But we cannot obtain it by force. So we want you to bring it from Tuluv Lok."

"What!? But Maharaj, how can I—?"

"Yes, you. If you complete this task, we will return your memory. Don't you want to go back to your family?"

"Yes, Maharaj."

"So you are ready to do this?"

"Yes."

Nalish then takes her to the demon guru, who explains everything in detail.

Meanwhile, in Tuluv Lok, everyone is worried about how the energy of the Prakash Punj came into Prince Susim.

Prince Susim says to Acharya Gajpati,

"You said that if we find where half the energy is, we can locate the other half."

The Acharya replies,

"We thought the energy would be in some object, but it has become a part of you. Until the Prakash Punj itself calls its energy, it will remain within you."

Susim asks,

"So it will stay inside me? And what about those children?"

The Acharya replies helplessly,

"I cannot say anything about that."

Susim asks,

"Is there any way to remove it?"

The Acharya says,

"Yes—your death."

Susim calmly replies,

"Then I am ready to sacrifice my life for my people."

King Santanu is shocked,

"What are you saying!?"

Susim responds,

"If you were in my place, what would you do? What will you tell the people—that you cannot save their children? Or that you stepped back because of your love for your son?"

After a moment, the king agrees,

"You are right."

Susim orders,

"Acharya, begin the preparations. And keep this matter between us."

With tears in their eyes, the king and Acharya agree.

Back in Nalish Lok, Sanjh is fully instructed and sent to Tuluv Lok.

The next morning, Acharya Gajpati takes Prince Susim to a secret place for the sacrifice. Priests perform rituals, and just as the sacrifice is about to happen, someone suddenly stops them.

"Stop! What are you doing? Why are you sacrificing him?"

The Acharya asks,

"Who are you, Devi? How did you come here?"

She replies nervously,

"I… I came from a distant village. The queen has called me to work at the palace. I lost my way and reached here."

Susim says angrily,

"You don't need to know what is happening here. Leave at once!"

She hesitates, but he insists.

The Acharya then says,

"Rajkumar, the auspicious time has passed."

"What!?"

"Yes, now we must perform all the rituals again."
