Chapter 36 - REUNION OF RAM SITA

Chapter 36: The Reunion of Rama and Sita

The battlefield of Lanka had fallen silent.

The roar of weapons had ceased.

Ravana, the mighty king of Lanka, had been defeated.

Dharma had triumphed over Adharma.

The gods showered flowers from the heavens, while the Vanara army rejoiced in Lord Rama's victory.

Yet Rama's heart remained fixed on one thought alone.

Sita.

After months of separation, the moment they had both longed for had finally arrived.

Rama turned to Vibhishana, the newly crowned King of Lanka.

"Go to the Ashoka Vatika," he said.

"Tell Sita that the war has ended."

"Bring her here with all honor."

Vibhishana bowed.

He went to the Ashoka Vatika and informed Sita that Ravana had been slain.

For a moment, Sita stood motionless.

Tears filled her eyes.

The long night of sorrow had finally come to an end.

She offered prayers to the gods and thanked Hanuman, whose courage had first brought her hope.

The Rakshasi guards who had once tormented her now bowed before her.

Following Vibhishana's request, Sita bathed, dressed in clean garments, and was adorned with simple ornaments suitable for a queen.

She was then brought in a royal palanquin toward the battlefield.

As the palanquin approached, countless Vanaras gathered to see the noble queen for whom they had fought.

Seeing the crowd, Vibhishana ordered the soldiers to clear the path.

But Rama stopped him.

"There is no need to drive them away."

"These Vanaras are our family."

"They have sacrificed their lives for this cause."

"Let them see Queen Sita."

Sita stepped down from the palanquin.

After many months, Rama and Sita stood face to face.

Neither spoke.

Their eyes held the pain of separation, the memories of the forest, the suffering of captivity, and the joy of survival.

The entire battlefield fell silent.

Then Rama spoke.

"My duty as a Kshatriya has been fulfilled."

"I defeated Ravana and rescued you."

"But as the future king of Ayodhya, I must also uphold the honor of the royal family."

"The world has seen that you lived in another man's palace."

"I know your purity in my heart."

"Yet a ruler must remain beyond all public doubt."

These words deeply pained Sita.

Tears flowed from her eyes, not from anger, but from the sorrow of hearing such words after all she had endured.

Calmly, she turned to Lakshmana.

"Prepare a sacred fire."

"If my heart has never wavered from Lord Rama..."

"If I have remained pure in thought, word, and deed..."

"May Agni, the Fire God, protect me."

Lakshmana looked toward Rama with sadness.

Receiving Rama's silent permission, he prepared the sacred fire.

The flames rose high into the sky.

The Vanaras wept.

Hanuman lowered his head in grief.

Even Vibhishana could scarcely watch.

With folded hands, Sita prayed to the gods.

Then, without fear, she entered the blazing fire.

A gasp spread across the battlefield.

Moments later, the flames parted.

From within emerged Agni Deva, the Fire God.

He carried Sita in his arms.

Not even her garments had been touched by the flames.

Agni spoke before all present.

"O Rama, Sita is completely pure."

"She has never once been unfaithful in thought or deed."

"There is no stain upon her character."

"You should accept her without hesitation."

At that moment, Brahma, Indra, and many other gods appeared in the heavens.

Brahma addressed Rama:

"O Lord Vishnu, though you walk the earth as the son of Dasharatha, you are the protector of the universe."

"You descended to destroy Ravana and restore Dharma."

Rama bowed respectfully and replied,

"I have lived this life as Rama, son of Dasharatha."

"My duty has always been to uphold righteousness."

He then turned toward Sita.

Before all the worlds, he accepted her once again.

"My beloved, I have always known your purity."

"The trial was not for my satisfaction, but so that the world would never question your honor."

Sita smiled gently.

The long separation had finally ended.

Rama and Sita stood together once more.

The heavens echoed with cries of victory.

"Jai Shri Rama!"

Flowers rained from the sky.

The Vanaras rejoiced.

Hanuman's eyes filled with tears of devotion.

Lakshmana bowed before his brother and sister-in-law.

Vibhishana offered his respects to the divine couple.

Soon afterward, Rama crowned Vibhishana as the rightful King of Lanka.

The new king promised to rule according to Dharma and justice.

With Ravana gone, peace returned to Lanka.

The purpose of Rama's exile had been fulfilled.

The promise made in Ayodhya had been kept.

Now only one journey remained.

After fourteen long years...

The Prince of Ayodhya would finally return home.

The Pushpaka Vimana awaited.

The road back to Ayodhya had begun.
