Chapter 17 - Lyra looses control

Time lost meaning.

Lyra didn't know how long she had been there.

Hours.

Days.

Maybe both.

The darkness never changed, the silence never broke—except for the occasional sound of footsteps echoing in the distance, reminding her she wasn't alone.

Not really.

The chains around her wrists burned faintly now, reacting every time her emotions spiked. Every time her power tried to rise, they tightened, suppressing it, forcing it back down.

It hurt.

Not just physically.

Deeper.

Like something inside her was being suffocated.

---

"You're still holding on."

The voice echoed again.

Calm.

Patient.

Watching.

Lyra didn't look up this time.

She didn't respond.

She had learned.

They wanted a reaction.

They wanted her to break.

"I expected more from you," the figure continued, stepping into the dim light. "Three Alphas bonded to you, and yet… you're still resisting."

Lyra's fingers curled weakly.

"I'm not helping you," she whispered.

A pause.

Then a quiet chuckle.

"You misunderstand."

The figure stepped closer.

"We don't need your cooperation."

A flick of their hand—

Pain exploded through her body.

Lyra gasped, her back arching as the chains tightened violently, digging into her skin as something invisible pressed down on her.

Her vision blurred.

Her breath came in broken gasps.

"Stop—!" she choked.

But it didn't stop.

The pressure increased.

Crushing.

Unrelenting.

"Pain breaks control," the figure said calmly. "And control is the only thing holding your power back."

Lyra shook her head weakly, tears slipping down her temples.

"No… no…"

But her body betrayed her.

The bond—

It reacted.

Fiercely.

Desperately.

Reaching.

Screaming.

And this time—

Something answered.

---

Far away—

Kyle froze mid-step.

Rowan staggered slightly.

Azriel's breath caught sharply.

All at once—

The bond surged.

Violent.

Unstable.

"She's not just in danger," Azriel said, his voice tight. "She's breaking."

Kyle's expression turned lethal. "Move."

---

Back in the chamber—

Lyra screamed.

The sound tore from her throat as something inside her snapped—

Not fully.

But enough.

Power surged through her veins like wildfire, burning, uncontrollable, overwhelming. The chains glowed brighter, trying to suppress it—but they were struggling now.

Cracking.

Fighting.

Failing.

"Good," the figure murmured, watching closely. "That's it."

Lyra's vision flickered wildly.

Her body trembled.

She could feel everything.

The pain.

The fear.

The bond.

Them.

Kyle.

Rowan.

Azriel.

So far—

But getting closer.

The connection flared.

Brighter than ever before.

"Stop it…" she whispered, but she didn't know who she was talking to anymore.

The pain intensified.

And something inside her—

Something ancient—

Finally pushed back.

---

The chains snapped.

Not all at once.

But one by one.

Cracking.

Breaking.

Shattering.

A burst of energy exploded outward from her, slamming into the walls, shaking the entire chamber. The torches flickered violently, shadows twisting unnaturally as the air itself seemed to warp.

Lyra dropped to her knees, gasping for breath.

Her eyes—

They glowed.

Not like before.

Brighter.

Stronger.

Uncontrolled.

The figure stepped back slightly.

For the first time—

Cautious.

"…Fascinating," they whispered.

Lyra lifted her head slowly.

Her expression wasn't fear anymore.

It wasn't confusion.

It was something else.

Something darker.

"You wanted me to break," she said, her voice echoing unnaturally.

The power around her surged again.

Unstable.

Dangerous.

"You should've thought about what happens next."

The ground beneath her cracked slightly.

The air vibrated.

The figure's smile returned—but it was sharper now.

"Perfect," they said.

And suddenly—

The doors exploded open.

A shockwave of pure Alpha dominance flooded the room.

Kyle.

Rowan.

Azriel.

They had arrived.

Kyle's eyes locked onto Lyra instantly—

And something in his expression shifted.

Not relief.

Not fully.

Because what he saw—

Wasn't just Lyra anymore.

Rowan's jaw tightened. "What did they do to her?"

Azriel didn't speak.

His gaze was fixed on her, sharp, calculating.

Understanding.

"The chains are broken," he said quietly.

Lyra looked at them.

Her breathing uneven.

Her power still surging uncontrollably around her.

The bond flared—

Wild.

Unstable.

Dangerous.

"I… can't stop it," she whispered.

And for the first time—

Fear returned to her voice.

Because this wasn't just power anymore.

This was something else.

Something that could destroy everything—

Including them.
