Chapter 2 - Breaker (1)

Me and Kaleb head home after the meet and greet.

I clench the autographed paper in my hands.

My mind races 'I REALLY GOT HER AUTOGRAPH!!' I try to keep a straight face.

Seeing my miserable attempt at keeping my face straight, Kaleb chuckles and says, "I know you're happy that you got ten's autographed, but chill dude. You never act like this when it's someone else." Kaleb smirks.

"She's my idol, I adore everything about her!" My eyes sparkle with glee.

"Still, don't you think that's a bit much?"

"Nope, not at all."

Kaleb sighs and we eventually arrive back at our apartment complex. We enter our room, clothes scattered everywhere due to the fact we rushed to go outside.

"Holy shit, it was this messy?" I say looking at the messy clothes scattered everywhere. "Kaleb, clean this up for me!"

"Are we serious? YOU'RE THE ONE WHO CAUSED THIS MESS!" Kaleb shouts. "Jeez... I'm not a damn slave."

I flinch "Dude... it's my birthday tomorrow." I look down and pout.

"Fine, just because it's your birthday." Kaleb snickers.

"YAY!" I squeal.

Kaleb quickly tidies up the room, placing the clothes in the right places, placing any dropped objects back to where they belong, any trash left on the ground to the trash bin, and soon enough, the once mess of a room is now completely tidy and sparkling.

"There, happy now?" Says Kaleb.

"Mhm! I'm so excited, there's a chance for me to stand side-by-side with ten. I'll even be in the same academy as her!" I say excitedly.

"A really low chance." Kaleb snickers.

"It's still a chance though!"

"Now you're suddenly optimistic, it's all gotta be about her doesn't it" Kaleb frowns.

"Dude... I know that it's bothering you, but you have to understand, when I was at my lowest, the person who gave me hope was ten." I say softly.

"I was there for you too." Kaleb mumbles.

"What did you say?" I ask.

"Nothing, let's get prepared for your birthday dude." He goes to the fridge. "I got a surprise for you!" He adds.

"Really?! What is it, what is it!" I say, my legs shake with overwhelming anticipation.

Kaleb takes out a large cake with gray frosting. The theme being of bones. "Tada! Since it's your 18th birthday, the day you might become a breaker, I made this cake just for you!" Kaleb smiles widely.

"You made this yourself?!"

"The one and only!"

My eyes tear up with joy, "Thank you, no one ever baked a cake for me before..."

Kaleb wipes the tears "No problem dude, it's a really important day for you after all!" Kaleb chuckles.

"Dude, that's lowkey gay."

"Fuck you, and it was just getting wholesome." Kaleb releases my face.

"Sorry" I say, fixing up my hair.

"Wanna do a countdown until your birthday?" Kaleb asks me.

"Sure, I don't see a problem doing so." I say. When I check the time I see that it's 11:57. "3 more minutes left until my birthday" I smile softly.

"Okay..." Kaleb responds, putting an alarm on his phone setting it to 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

I peek over Kaleb's shoulder, looking at the phone. "30 seconds before it hits twelve?"

"Yep, isn't it already obvious?"

"Okayyyy" I go lay down on the edge of my bed.

A few minutes later the alarm rings.

"WAH!" I get surprised by the alarm and fall of the bed, faceplanting to the floor.

Kaleb laughs hysterically "Dude, you literally knew that it wouldn't be long until the alarm rung."

My face flushes with embarrassment, "Stop laughing..."

"Okay okay, let's do the countdown now, it's only 10 seconds left until it hits twelve." Kaleb smirks.

I quickly stand up, regaining my composure before we started to count.

"10... 9..." We both start counting, my heart beating rapidly with excitement.

"8... 7..." My heart feels like it'll fly out of my chest in any second.

"6..5..." My mind races, 'what if I'm a breaker? I'll go to the same academy as 10. I really wish I'm a breaker'.

"4...3..." My heart beats even faster.

"2...1..." I brace myself, apparently, the way people figure out if they're a breaker or not is if they experience a sharp pain in the bone that they can break.

"0..." The clock hits twelve, and nothing happens?

"Aww shucks dude, I think I'm not a-" Suddenly an excruciating pain fills my entire skeleton. "AHHHHHH!!!!" I scream in agony and collapse to the ground.

"HEY, WHAT'S WRONG REN?!" Kaleb shakes my body.

I continue panting, the pain felt like nothing I've ever felt before. "Hah..."

"Does it still hurt?" Kaleb's eyes look worried as he continues to check my body.

"Not anymore..." I say weakly.

A few minutes pass and I stand up.

"So... where'd you feel the pain?" Kaleb asks me.

"Everywhere." I say with a blank expression.

"Dude, I'm asking you because the pain indicates what bone you can break." Kaleb sighs.

"Yeah, everywhere."

"Dude... you're not serious are you?"

"I very much am serious."

"HOLY FUCK, does that mean what I think it means?" Kaleb smirks.

Suddenly I realize too, "Wait..." my eyes flare up.

"I/YOU CAN BREAK EVERY BONE IN MY/YOUR BODY!" We say in unison.

"But isn't that a bad thing?" I ask Kaleb.

"Huh? How can that be a bad thing?" Kaleb wonders "You get more power and you can mix and match with every ability. You just gotta- oh..."

"Yeah... doesn't this make me completely vulnerable?"

"I suppose it does..." Kaleb suddenly smiles "you're like the build you always use in games. The one where you prioritize attack over defense." Kaleb chuckles.

"Oh shit yeah... but thinking about it. Wasn't there an incident with the baby who was a skull breaker at birth? WHAT IF I GET ASSASSINATED?!" I start to panic.

"Don't worry dude!" Kaleb pats my back, softly, knowing it'd probably break. "I've got your back." Kaleb smiles widely.

"Of course you do... thanks, really." I say solemnly.

"Don't act all grateful for me all of a sudden." Kaleb grins. "I always had your back since we first became friends.

"But... the academy is really far away from our apartment." I say.

"Who cares, I might not be there, but I still got your back dude." Kaleb laughs. "Okay! Now, since it's your birthday, let's eat the damn cake I made for you!"

"Alright alright" I smile as we both go to the table where the cake is set.

Kaleb lights up the candle on the cake. "C'mon, make a wish."

I breathe in, thinking about my wish, 'I wish to always be with the people I care about, no matter the distance.' then I blow out the candle.

"What was your wish?!" Kaleb looks at me with curiosity.

"Wishes don't come true if you tell it to someone dumbass." I chuckle.

"Fine, do whatever you want." Kaleb pouts. "Also, we'll have to find someone from the OBA, it'll be dangerous if you head out alone, so I'll just drive you to the nearest OBA building. To get you enrolled and all of course."

"Later, I just want to rest."

"Okay, goodnight dude." Kaleb goes to his bed.

"Goodnight" I start to walk towards my bed, and lay down on it while staring at the ceiling before closing my eyes and going to sleep.
