Chapter Ninety-One: The Quiet Reconciliation

The morning of the fourth day arrived soft and quiet.

Jay woke up on Shreya's floor, wrapped in a blanket someone had thrown over her in the night. Shreya was asleep nearby, Mithun's jacket draped over her.

They'd cried themselves to sleep. All of them.

Jay sat up slowly. Her head ached. Her heart ached.

But something felt different.

Lighter.

---

She walked downstairs.

The kitchen was empty. Coffee was made—someone had been up early.

She poured a cup. Sat at the table.

The door opened.

Keifer walked in.

He stopped when he saw her.

She stopped breathing.

---

"Morning," he said quietly.

"Morning."

He poured his own coffee. Sat across from her.

Not too close. But not far.

For a long moment, neither spoke.

Then: "I'm sorry," she whispered.

He looked up.

"For slapping you. For running. For shutting you out. For all of it."

"I'm sorry too."

"For what? You didn't do anything."

"I pushed. I grabbed your wrist. I should have given you space."

"You were trying to help."

"I was trying to fix. There's a difference."

She reached across the table. Didn't touch him. Just... offered.

He took her hand.

---

"I love you," she said. "Even when I'm broken."

"I love you too. Even when you're broken."

"I don't know how to do this. The grief. The anger. All of it."

"Neither do I. But we can figure it out together."

"Together?"

"Together."

She squeezed his hand. "I don't want to fight anymore."

"Me neither."

"We'll fight again. Probably. But—"

"But we'll come back. Always."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

---

Keiran appeared in the doorway, Rex in hand.

"Mamma? Pappa?"

Jay opened her arms. He ran into them.

"Are you friends again?"

"We're friends, baby."

"And love each other?"

"Always."

Keiran nodded. "Rex says good."

Rex nodded approvingly.

Ganesha, tucked under Keiran's other arm, seemed relieved.

---

Shreya appeared a moment later, puffy-eyed but calm.

She saw them at the table. Hand in hand.

Smiled.

"About time."

Jay laughed weakly. "Yeah."

Akshi bounced in behind her. "COFFEE! I NEED COFFEE! And also, are you two okay now?"

"We're working on it."

"WORKING IS GOOD! WORKING IS PROGRESS!"

Chethan followed. "Is it safe to be loud?"

"Probably not."

"Okay. I'll be quiet. For now."

---

Mithun came last, calm as always.

He sat beside Shreya. Took her hand.

She leaned into him.

Everyone was together.

Broken. Healing. Together.

---

That night, Jay and Keifer sat on their balcony.

The stars were out.

"Hi, baby girl," Jay whispered up at them. "We're okay. We're going to be okay."

Keifer wrapped his arms around her.

"She knows."

"Yeah."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

They stood together.

Not fixed. But healing.

Together.
