Chapter 148 - epilogue

Epilogue: Forever Begins Now

Ten years had passed since the first baby was born in the mansion.

The house had changed. Walls were covered in crayon drawings that no one had the heart to remove. The garden had a treehouse built by five different fathers over the course of one chaotic summer. The kitchen had a permanent cloud of flour dust from countless baking disasters.

But the heart of the mansion—the love, the chaos, the family—had only grown stronger.

---

The morning started like any other.

Jay woke up in Keifer's arms, the way she had for fifteen years. Her hair was gray now, threaded through with silver. His temples had gone white. They were older. They were slower. They were still, impossibly, completely in love.

"Morning," she whispered.

"Morning."

"Another day."

"The best day."

She kissed him. "You say that every day."

"Because it's true every day."

---

Downstairs, the kitchen was chaos.

Alexander, now fourteen, was trying to make breakfast. Aurora, also fourteen, was criticizing his technique. Rex the dinosaur sat on the counter, supervising. He was faded now, worn from years of love, but he was still there. He would always be there.

"You're burning the eggs," Aurora said.

"I am NOT burning the eggs."

"The smoke alarm says otherwise."

The smoke alarm went off.

Alexander swore. Aurora laughed. Jay walked in and sighed.

---

Rohan, now fourteen, appeared with Adira beside him. They were twins, identical in ways that went beyond looks. Rohan was studying physics now. Adira was writing a novel. They were both terrifyingly smart and utterly inseparable.

"Alexander burned the eggs," Adira announced.

"I did NOT burn them!"

"The eggs are black."

"That's a new recipe!"

Aurora snorted. "It's called 'failure.'"

Anya and Aanya, now fourteen, arrived next. They were still impossible to tell apart, still absolutely feral. Anya was learning martial arts. Aanya was learning to play the drums. The mansion had never been louder.

"Eggs are burned," Anya said.

"We can hear the smoke alarm from outside," Aanya added.

Alexander threw a dish towel at them. They dodged. Laughing, they ran.

---

Percy arrived with Honey. He was older now, his hair more gray than brown, but his energy was unchanged.

"BURNED EGGS! I REMEMBER THOSE DAYS!"

Honey sighed. "Percy, it's 8 AM."

"BREAKFAST TIME!"

He grabbed a plate. Ate the burned eggs. Pronounced them "delicious." Alexander beamed.

Honey shook her head, but she was smiling.

---

C.N. and Rakii arrived next. C.N. had retired from his practice, but he still took notes. Rakii had become a celebrated photographer. Her most famous work was a series called "Family," all taken in the mansion.

"The eggs are burned," C.N. observed.

"Statistically, burned eggs are still edible."

Rakii kissed his cheek. "You're impossible."

"Your impossible."

---

David and Freya came with their children—three boys, now teenagers, all chaos. Felix and Bridget arrived with their daughter, who was studying art and was as quiet as her parents. Mica and Calix came with their son, who played hockey and was somehow louder than Mica.

Aries and Ella arrived with their twins, now fourteen, who immediately joined the chaos.

Kuya Angelo walked in with Ion. He was slower now, his hair completely white, but his eyes were still sharp. Ion held his arm, steady as always.

Tita Gemma and Tito Rachel came last. Tita Gemma was smaller now, frailer, but her spirit was unchanged. "BURNED EGGS! I REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS JAY BURNING EGGS!"

Jay laughed. "That was one time!"

"It was seventeen times!"

"EXAGGERATION!"

---

The children ran outside. The adults sat in the kitchen. The noise was constant, overwhelming, beautiful.

Jay looked at her family.

Alexander, her son, tall and serious, trying to be a man. Aurora, her daughter, fierce and brilliant, already planning her future. Rohan and Adira, Shreya's twins, already talking about college. Anya and Aanya, Akshi's girls, already causing trouble.

And the younger ones—the babies who weren't babies anymore, the children who had grown up in this house, in this family.

She looked at Keifer.

He was watching her.

"Happy?" he asked.

"Ridiculously."

"Me too."

---

Percy raised his glass. "TO THE FAMILY!"

Honey sighed. "Percy, that's not a toast."

"IT IS NOW!"

"TO THE FAMILY!" everyone echoed.

The children cheered. The adults laughed. The mansion shook with noise and love.

Jay leaned against Keifer.

"Our family," she whispered.

"Our chaos."

"Beautiful chaos."

"The best kind."

He kissed her forehead. "Forever?"

"Forever."

---

Outside, the garden was full of children.

Alexander was showing Rohan something on his phone. Aurora was arguing with Adira about something neither would remember in five minutes. Anya and Aanya were climbing the treehouse, faster than anyone could follow.

The sun was setting. The sky was pink and gold. The mansion glowed with light.

Jay watched them. All of them.

"Thank you," she whispered.

Keifer looked at her. "For what?"

"For catching me. All those years ago. For not letting me fall."

He pulled her close. "I'll always catch you."

"I know."

"Forever?"

"Forever."

---

The night was quiet.

The children were asleep. The adults were scattered, talking softly, remembering. The mansion was peaceful.

Jay stood on the balcony, looking at the stars.

Keifer came up behind her. Wrapped his arms around her waist.

"What are you thinking?"

"That I'm glad I fainted on that sidewalk."

He laughed. "I'm glad you did too."

"Best mistake I ever made."

"Best catch I ever made."

She turned in his arms. Kissed him.

"I love you," she said. "Until the end of the universe."

He kissed her back. "Until scientists find it and then keep going."

---

Inside, Alexander slept with Rex beside him. Aurora's flower crown was on her nightstand. Rohan's books were stacked by his bed. Adira's notebook was open to a new chapter. Anya's martial arts belt hung on her door. Aanya's drumsticks were on her desk.

The younger children dreamed their own dreams.

The house was full.

The family was whole.

And somewhere, in the quiet of the night, the story continued.

---

THE END

---

And so, the chaos continues. The children will grow. The family will change. The mansion will always be full. Because this family—this beautiful, chaotic, impossible family—was built on love. And love, once found, never ends.
