Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: The Invitation

Morning sunlight slowly returned to New York after the long night of chaos.

Smoke still rose from damaged streets, and emergency crews worked tirelessly across the city. News helicopters hovered above Manhattan while reporters shouted into cameras.

"The mysterious hero who controlled an army of shadows played a major role in stopping the alien invasion!"

"Authorities are still trying to identify this individual!"

Standing on the rooftop of a nearby building, Fredy watched the city quietly.

Below him, his shadow soldiers melted into darkness one by one. After the battle, he had dismissed most of them to conserve energy.

Even now, the system interface floated faintly in front of him.

Fredy stared at the information thoughtfully.

Just a few days ago he had been an ordinary person.

Now he commanded an army capable of fighting alien invaders.

"Still feels unreal," he murmured.

A voice behind him replied casually.

"You get used to it."

Fredy turned.

Standing near the rooftop door was the billionaire genius himself.

Tony Stark.

Tony carried a small device that was clearly scanning Fredy again.

"You know," Tony continued, "most people celebrate saving New York."

Fredy shrugged.

"I'm not most people."

Tony laughed.

"Fair point."

He walked closer.

"Anyway, Fury sent me."

Fredy already knew what that meant.

"Recruitment again?"

Tony pointed at him.

"Exactly."

He pressed a button on the device, and a holographic projection appeared.

The hologram displayed the headquarters of the Avengers.

Avengers Tower.

"We're building a team," Tony explained.

"A team for threats bigger than street crime."

He crossed his arms.

"And based on yesterday's performance… you're already qualified."

Fredy remained silent.

Tony tilted his head.

"Let me guess."

"You don't like teams."

Fredy replied calmly.

"I prefer working alone."

Tony grinned.

"Yeah, we all say that at first."

Suddenly the rooftop door opened again.

Another figure stepped out.

A man wearing a long black coat and an eyepatch.

Nick Fury.

Fury walked directly toward Fredy.

"Stark is right."

"The world is changing."

He looked at the city skyline.

"The invasion yesterday was only the beginning."

Fredy knew that too.

After all…

He had already seen the system notification about upcoming global threats.

Fury turned back to him.

"You don't have to officially join the Avengers."

"But you should at least work with us."

Tony added with a grin:

"And we have really good coffee."

Fredy finally smiled slightly.

"That's a convincing argument."

Tony raised a finger.

"I knew it."
